Episode 26

(HOW IT ENDED)

“Victor. You’re not serving a different God. He’s the God of Isaac, The God of Esau, the God of David and also the God of Moses. He doesn’t change. God does his things at the right time. Please just be patient. Your sister is going to be fine.”

“That’s what you’ll keep telling me. Three months now and no positive news yet. You expect me to just sit down and watch my sister diê!”

“Victor…”

“Victor… Look at me please..”

I turned to her.

“Victor to be sincere, ever since I knew you, I’ve not seen you this annoyed. I’ve never seen this expression on you before.. I know how hard it is.. God will surely heal her.” She uttered holding my left hand.

I stood up in rage, removing her hand.

“Victor…. Victor… Please listen..”

I snubbed her and left.

“Victor where are you going.”

On the other side, mum had been concerned, and dad was also attempting to persuade her. I stopped attending. I shut off communication with the pastor and spent the entire day at home, sewing shoes and reflecting on my sister’s predicament.

6months had elapsed and the only News from the doctor was that she could talk. On hearing the news, a week after doctor informed us that she was having difficulty in breathing.

Doctor later apologized adding that he never expected any of this. Pastor had been incessantly disturbing me with calls but I never picked any of them. Anytime she comes to visit, I’d leave the house.

Along the line, people were just coming to check up on us, family members, church members, friends…. They had some conversations with mum and dad. The house became so rowdy. Her boyfriend had been worried, the day he came to the hospital his eyes were welled up in tears.

Doctor also informed us that she shouldn’t be left alone. For that reason, her boyfriend volunteered to sit with her and watch over her in the hospital.

One of the days Jennifer called me adding that she wants to see me. I told her to come the next day that I wasn’t in the mood to talk. The next day, she came to my house and I welcomed her. She said she came to check up on me that she was sorry regarding my sister’s condition.

“Victor I hope she’s getting better now..”

“I’m totally speechless right now.. I don’t know what to say…” I responded, throwing my face away.

“I understand you. It is well. Please don’t stress yourself. Hope you have eaten something.” She questioned.

“Not yet…”

“Follow me let me get you something to eat please…”

“But I can manage myself….”

“Not in this condition that I’m seeing you. Please let’s go…”

“Okay let me change my shirt. I’m coming.”

I dressed myself and she took me to a restaurant. It’s been long a lady took me to a restaurant. It was rare. She bought me food and I ate. She also bought some for herself.

After that day, my mind got relieved. It was as if I was in a different dimension entirely. She became so kind and she visits me often..

During the 8th month, doctor informed me that my sister could make use of her legs that she could equally talk. When I told my parents, they insisted on visiting the hospital to independently confirm it. So, using Dad’s car, we all drove there. I called Jennifer, and she came along.

Doctor escorted us in. Her boyfriend was right there, communicating with her. Mum and dad was so amazed.

“My daughter. I’m so sorry for leaving you behind. This was my fault… ”

“Mum. I’m fine now… Mum I’ve missed you,” She uttered while trying to hug mum with her right hand.

“Purity. As long as we are with you. Nothing will happen to you.” I said, holding Jennifer’s hands.

“Amen oo.” Jennifer uttered.

I was seeing pastor coming over and I was shocked. I turned to Jennifer and pulled her to the corner.

“You informed pastor?” I whispered

“Yes I did. Is anything wrõng?… Victor
she’s our pastor.”

“Okay okay. Fine.”

“Nawa o. Women and aproko.” I said to myself.

” Victor… Regarding your sister’s case. I heard she’s recovering..” pastor uttered, while seriously looking at me.

“Yes my dear. As it stands, she can now talk. At least far better than previous times. From what doctor said, she can also walk..” mum said to her.

“Purity…” Mum called her.
“Yes mum..”

“Can you walk now… ”

“Yes… Yes…” She said and diligently got up from the bed. Her boyfriend assisted her.

She turned and headed back towards the entrance. We were overjoyed. Everyone should join hands, the pastor instructed. We all followed the instructions and prayed for her. Pastor gave mum his word that everything would be alright.

I received a call from her boyfriend a week later. He told me that purity was entirely recovered. Even the doctors were taken aback, he claimed, adding that she could now use her left hand.

I told my mum and she rushed to discharge her from the hospital. My relationship with Jennifer upgraded to the point where I asked her out and she accepted.

Jennifer was the one that brought me back to Christ. I became fully grounded. I later went to pastor and apologized to her for my flaws.

Jennifer and I were in good terms. Mum and dad had been seeing her visiting me often to the point they called me for a talk.

Dad was just smiling and gazing at me.
“You know you’re no longer a child o.” Dad uttered.

“Is she the one?” Mum questioned me, staring at me.

“Kind of. Mum Jennifer had been good to me. For now she’s the one. There’s no other one. You know that pastor is too old for me naaa…”

“Hmmmm alright. Have you heard from her parents?” Mum questioned me.

“Yes. Had a word with her mum in church last week.”

“Alright… My son. I see you’ve upgraded.” Mum uttered, throwing thumbs at me.

I chuckled and left.

My sister got engaged to his boyfriend.. My parents became full members of peace redemption ministries. I continued my life with Jennifer and focused on my business until firms hired me to join them and make shoes. I now have my own flat, and we are currently planning our wedding.

I realise that life is filled with ups and downs, we make mistakes and it’s left for us to accept it, learn from it and move on with life. We should also pray for God’s protection in our lives.

When you meet good people in life you stick with them. You might not necessarily need them now, but later on. Another thing is that,no matter the challenges you face in life, there’s always an expiry date if actually you know what you’re doing.

Pastor Helena was truly a good woman. She was always there for me regardless of all circumstances. Even till now she check up on us. If I was to come back in another world, she’d be the one I’d marry.

I believe that there are some other things to learn from this story if actually you started reading from episode 1.

The end.
