Unmarried at thirty episode 21

UNMARRIED AT THIRTY

EP 21

You can’t marry my daughter” Toluwani’s mother flared up like an unpinned grenade. She was exploding everywhere, hurting everyone who stood between her decision. “I’m old enough to marry even without your permission but i came for your blessings because i still regarded you as my parents”
Toluwani concluded asking Yinka to follow her but he persuaded her otherwise.

“She’s just being a mother, I believe every caring parents would worry that their established daughter is getting married to her security guard” Yinka calmed her down.
“I give my blessings” Toluwani’s father blared out but his wife had already left angrily. Jumoke and Fumilayo followed her to the room to talk sense into her. “Let’s go and come back again next time” Yinka suggested. Toluwani was beyond words, she was astonished at her mother’s illogical lack of understanding. She was sad and felt hurt that the man she truly loved was hurt by her mother. She apologized to Yinka but he understood where her mother was coming from. Every mother d’ want a well established man for her daughter. He would try again, he concluded.

“Mom, I don’t understand your sudden unleashing anger. I thought we had agreed to accept and support whoever Toluwani brings home moreover, the man is not short of anything compared to other men. He’s tall and handsome. What of people who get married to cripples and other kind of handicaps” Jumoke said rasing her voice at her mother. She was angry at the fact that she wasn’t listening to anybody.

“Eh, can’t she bring home someone established like your husband?”
“Mama, i don’t know what your problem is but I’m fully in support of their relationship and you better change your mind soon unless you don’t want to be present at their wedding as a mother. You said my husband is established, remember, it was Toluwani that repaid my established husband’s loan if not, we d’ be homeless and on the street right now “Jumoke retorted as she leaves the room. Toluwani’s mother sat on the small chair in the kitchen thinking hard about what to do.

Physically Yinka wasn’t inferior to any man, now that everyone in the family were in support, she had no choice than follow the tides. She had heaved a sigh and drank a cupful of water. “May she never regret her decision ” she said as she walked to her husband at the parlour.

“I understand your concerns but you see, everyone can’t marry a CEO or wealthy people. They’re people, who find happiness by marrying people of middle class. The young man seems responsible and hardworking, above all, your daughter has fallen too deep in love with him. It won’t be any beneficial for anyone going against them. Let them do as their heart pleases” Toluwani’s father pleaded with the mother. “I will call Toluwani to bring him back again” she reluctantly gave in.

It was on a Monday morning around nine o’clock, Toluwani was in the office, she felt stuffy, her throat was clogging, she tried unsuccessfully to unclog her throat but it proved abortive because nothing really was there. She felt heartburn and she kept drinking water to ease herself. It must be the porridge yam she ate in the morning, Toluwani since childhood had detaste eating anything yam but that morning she couldn’t stopped herself from wanting it so she sent the cleaning lady in the office to get it from the woman that sells it close to the office. She stood and walked about around her office, maybe that would aid quicker digestion. It wasn’t long when she felt better. After working on few files, Yinka’s call came in, her countenance brightened up. All by herself, she was smiling.
“Hello handsome”
” Yes, beautiful T-baby , how’s work going”
“It’s cool dear, I’m here just missing you. How’s work today, hope you have eating something today”.
“Yes my T-baby. Alright dear, i just called to quickly hear your precious voice ”
“Awww!! You’re my sunshine Yinka. Your voice always bring me so much warmth and happiness. I love you so much Yinka ” Toluwani told him in a melodious tune.
“Thanks honey, i love you too. To me, you’re like the air that i breath, the water that i drink and the food that i eat. You’re my nourishment and vitamins, now that i have met you, i don’t what to loose you ever. I love you my pretty T-baby” Yinka said as he whispered a kiss through the phone.

Love is like hard drugs, once you’re hooked on it, you will be absolutely under the control of its influence. Love is like a wine made from a pure grain, it has nothing harmful to the body but when love is brewed for the sake of fame and riches, it becomes dangerous and harmful to the soul. Yinka and Toluwani were in love not for the sake of what they d’ benefits from each other but because they really desired to be in each other’s arms.

Toluwani was just done with the call though still smiling when the director who had been disturbing her for a relationship for a long time ago came in. He had travelled overseas for an official business, he brought Toluwani lots of items he had specially bought from Paris. “Heey my beautiful Toluwani, the most productive manager in the company” he complemented with smilies plastered all over his face. The man had always liked Toluwani but he was never aggressive, he was more like a flirt who only wants to stay and talk with women.
“Welcome sir”
“Guess what i brought for you?” He brought out three pairs of designers dress. They were as beautiful as the sunshine and graceful as the moonlight. “I bought them for you from a world renowned store in Paris, i know you would look extremely stunning in them. As my woman you need to enjoy the best of the best” he said friendly. Toluwani wasn’t in for any Williams Shakespeare play that day, she outrightly told him how much she had fallen in love with Yinka. The director was disappointed upon heari
