UNMARRIED AT THIRTY

EP 17

Yinka was all smiles, he never had imagined a scene as such would play out. As he bath in the euphoria of the moment his phone rang, it was Rosemary. Rosemary had preoccupied her mind with the thought of Yinka since they met at the mall last time. She had wished to get back with him, as she laid on her bed reminiscing about the good times they had in the past , she regretted ever snubbing his calls after he dropped out of school.

Rosemary was 26 and was as beautiful as a woman could be. She thought of the first time they had intimacy, it was her first time having intercourse. The touch, the romance, the feelings, she vividly remembered everything. As those memories replayed in her head , she could physically felt her breastss tighten and her undies getting wet, she felt some burning sensation within her body. She wanted Yinka, she want to have him in her arms again. Her current boyfriend was nothing short of a leech anyway.

“Hello! , Who’s this please?” Yinka asked as he answered the call.
“Yinka, I’m disappointed, so you didn’t saved my number”
“Oh Rosemary, why are you calling by this time of the day?”
“Baby, why are you talking as if you’re not happy i called”. She fiendishly tried to change the conversation towards something romantic but Yinka wasn’t having a spare minute for such blabbing.

“Actually, the call interrupted my happy moment”.
“Wooow dear, share with me the good news”.
“I’m so happy tonight, the woman i have been admiring for a very long time had just agreed to be my girlfriend” Yinka said feeling oblivious of whatever intonation Rosemary was using. Rosemary facial expressions changed immediately she heard what Yinka had said.

“Oh don’t you think she’s just using you, do you think she’s better than me?” Rosemary asked in a sad tone. “good night Rosemary” Yinka disconnected the call abruptly without waiting to hear her say goodbye.

Yinka didn’t begrudged Rose because he didn’t want to add unnecessary burden to his life. Rose had systematically snubbed him after he dropped out of school due to financial constraints. He knew it was her plot but he let go, as much as his big heart could contained, it could only go as far as not hating Rose but he d’ never consider going back to her.

Yinka dumped himself on the bed, he took his phone and saved Toluwani’s mobile number as MY WOMAN, MY HAPPINESS. When he was done Saving it, he sent her a message. “Dear, Toluwani, today you ceased to be my boss and have become my woman. I’m considered the happiest man on earth at the moment, i promise to make sure you don’t regret your decision tonight. Have a great night rest. I love you from the dept of my heart my T-baby” he added three heart emojis at the end.

“Dad, it’s not what you think” Toluwani had said hastening her pace to catch up with her father. He walked to the balcony with his both hands at his back. “What do you think I’m thinking Toluwani?. You’re flirting with your security guard and you call that love?. Don’t you worry about what the people will say? Or about how your mother would feel?” Toluwani’s father said.

They was a particular bird that stays at the small pawpaw tree at the balcony there. The bird was chirping away nonchalantly, it was irritating Toluwani’s father. As a military man , he had some honour in his name. “If you don’t want your life, make another sound ” he howled at the bird. Like a frightened hen the bird flew away but not without some more chirping, it was more like howling back at him. The bird was trying to remind Toluwani’s father to leave her alone. well i guess that was what the bird’s noise was all about.

“Dad, to be honest, I’m afraid, afraid of the people wagging their tongue at me. I’m afraid of everything but dad, the fear i have can’t be compared to the happiness i feel right now. What i feel for Yinka isn’t just flirting, it’s way more than that and i want to give it a try” Toluwani told her father assertively. He breathed in heavily and wished them happy tomorrow.

Toluwani had taken her bath and set to rest when her phone beeped. Her sister helped her with the phone from the table. Jumoke and her husband with her parents will all be leaving tomorrow morning. Toluwani unlocked the phone and they were two messages, one was from Yinka while the other from George. Without hesitation she opened Yinka’s message, her face lightened up, her smile flashed upon the dim lit room. Her heart fluttered and she blushed innocently. She read and reread the same message over again.

“Is our big sister in love, who’s the luck man” Jumoke asked but Toluwani hid herself under the blanket. “I love you too Yinka” she replied. Toluwani was too engrossed with love that she forgot they was another message on her phone. With happiness and laughter, Toluwani went to bed.

Like a woman lost for ideas on what to wear to her crush’s birthday, George had scattered all his expensive designer jeans on the floor. For the seventh time he had discarded his choice. “I have to look decent” he reminded himself. It was already few minutes to eight o’clock. The young sun was setting out and everyone ranging from bread seller to Barrow pushers to bankers and lawyers, everyone struggled for their daily lives.

“My prince, the lady you promised to bring home last time, when is that happening” George mother asked as she brought him two slices of bread and a cup of tea. “Mama, don’t worry, very very soon”. George quickly gulped the tea. “Jesusss, my tongue” he cried out form the pains of taking the hot tea without precautions. His mother unhesitatingly handed him a cold cup of water she had brought.

George reexamined himself on the mirror and he was satisfied with his dashing look. He bathed himself with perfumes and dashed out to his car. George had a Venza car he acquired few months ago. He was actually doing very good for himself.

Yinka had taken his bath since around 4:30am, he was waiting for Toluwani to leave for work before going to check on the car he planned to buy for his E-hailing business. He already had slightly above a million naira, hopefully he could negotiate the price to around 800k to 850k. He prayed.

Toluwani within just few hours she had slept, she looked three years younger than her age, it was Yinka’s effect. As she dressed before the mirror, she sang ASA’s song

🎵you be my man , and i will be your woman everyday

🎵You, you ,you, you be my man and i will be your woman everyday 🎵.

Toluwani was glowing like a magical stone found only at the apex of skintalashin mountain. She had few minutes ago bided her family goodbye. When Yinka opened the gate earlier, the kind of look Toluwani’s father gave him was like a cut through his ribs. Last night Yinka had wanted to have a talk with the father but Toluwani had signalled him otherwise. When Yinka was about closing the gate, Toluwani’s father had given him a stern warning. “If you hurt her, i won’t forgive you bloody civilian” he warned, his eyes rolled from left to right. His wife asked why he would talked to the guard as such, moreover, who was she. He ignored her as the car sped off leaving a stentorian sound behind.

Toluwani was recently promoted at work so her time of resumption had changed a little, she could afford to spend some time without much worries. When she reached the gate, Yinka face was all smeared with smiles. Toluwani couldn’t hide her excitement either, she wound down his car window and flashed her snow white dentition at Yinka. “How are you darling?” She asked. Yinka smiled at her responding with lavish happiness visible on his cheeks. Yinka had sent her a good morning message around 5am telling her how he dreamt of her in his dreams.

“I’m fine Ma, i mean Tolu”.
“Better” she signalled him to come closer and he did. His head leaned against the window. Toluwani stroke his short hairs, Yinka’s hormone vibrated. She kissed him slowly on the lips. She let her mouth hanged upon his mouth as she whispered in between her teeth. Toluwani stretched her neck through the car window like an ostrich as they kissed each other ten times in a second. They weren’t getting the best of it, the car was obstructive and nobody likes such obstruction. She yanked opened the door and came down holding Yinka’s waist. He grabbed her tighter by the buttocks and kissed her longingly. She moaned softly

**** When it comes to human relationships, nothing is for sure. We’re all fiendish/cunning in our own different ways. If you want to experience genuine happiness in a relationship then start it with TRUE feelings.

If you want to keep your relationship even when the spark of love reduces then, make your love/lover your responsibility.

What keep us away from insanity is the attitude of being responsible towards our loved ones.
