A wife for my husband episode 9

“A WIFE FOR MY HUSBAND”

Episode 9

There was chaos everywhere as everyone expressed their disbelief.
“Silence everyone,” Chief announced. After they all calmed down, he turned to the lawyer.

“Can you please make us understand how Adesuwa is Efe’s heir?”

“Some 30-something years ago, Chief Efe had an affair with Adesuwa’s mother. She got pregnant, and when Chief refused to marry her, she left. As Chief later found out, she died while giving birth. She gave birth to a baby girl-Adesuwa. She was placed in an orphanage since they had no information about her family. Chief Efe had been looking for her for over ten years now. When he found out that Imonofi was dating another woman, things didn’t end well between them, and he could tell how much Imonofi liked the woman. He sent an investigator to find her. He was surprised to discover that the girl is the daughter he has been looking for.”

“Are you saying my father left nothing for me in his will?” Efosa asked.
“I’m sorry.” The lawyer replied.

“This is a joke, Mum, you are quiet; you are not saying anything. Why would my father not leave me anything in his will?”

“He couldn’t have because you are not his biological son.” The lawyer announced. Immediately Efosa and his wife started laughing.

EFOSA faced his mother “Mum can you please explain to this moron because he seems to be delusional.” Eghosa was silent; her head bent. “Mum, say something.” She couldn’t look him in the eyes.

“Mum is chief Efe, my father or not?” She remained silent; he banged the table. “Mother.” By now, he was sweating.

“I can tell you this though, Efosa, while Chief Efe is not your biological father, a DNA test shows you are related to him by blood.” The lawyer informed him.

“What! Mum, what is he saying.” Efosa exclaimed.

Chief Osaro turned to Nosa. “I didn’t do it, did you do it Nosa?”

“I am sorry Osas. She made me do it” Nosa pointed at Eghosa.

“Ehhhhwoo osanobua, she made you do what?” Uwa shouted.

Imonofi jabbed “Hahahaha. No wonder, like mother like son.” Efosa glared at him.

“What do you mean by that Imonofi? Omo asked.

“Ask your husband how he ruined my second marriage.”

Omo turned to Efosa. “Efosa, what is he talking about?”

“Don’t pay him any attention; moreover, we have more serious issues at hand.”

“How so, Efosa? We are talking about the lineage you came from; your mother has no qualms about sleeping with her brother-in-law, and you have no qualms about sleeping with your sister-in-law, my wife.”

“What! He slept with who?” Omo rose to her feet.

“Eeeeeh, so this was what happened between you and Ifunanya. Ehhh, Eghosa, E-g-h-g-o-s-a, see your life. Always controlling, feeling you are better than the rest of us. Manipulating my brother, see how your wickedness has caught up with you. So, tell me, who has the last laugh now? Hitoor.”

Omo couldn’t hold it together; she shouted at Efosa. “You slept with Ifunaya, your brother’s wife. You betrayed me with your brother’s wife, Efosa. After all we’ve been through together.”

“Look I’m sorry; she came unto me and…” She slapped him.

“That’s for being a two-timing lying son of a bitch. You bastard, how can you do this to me? You have always been selfish and reckless, but this that you have done is the final straw that breaks the camel’s back. We are done; don’t bother coming to the house because you no longer live there. I don’t wanna see your filthy face or see you near the children, or you won’t like what I will do to you.” She picked up her purse and walked out of the house. “Cursed people” She muttered under her breath.

Efosa begged “Omo, please you and I can work this out, please Omo.” He turned to his mother. “You have finished me, mother.”

Egosa was crying “I am sorry Efosa; I didn’t have a choice.”

Chief Osaro faced Nosa “You betrayed your brother with his wife, and you Eghosa, how did you ever think to carry out this sacrilege?”

“Please don’t blame Nosa; he is innocent; I was desperate. I heard a rumour that another woman was pregnant for Efe, and I was expressing my fears to my friend when she made the suggestion. It was the last holiday Nosa spent with us when he was at the university. I drugged him.”

“Ha, ha. Egosa.” Uwa exclaimed.

“I am sorry Osaro, Uwa, you have all been wondering why I never seem to get along with her or be in the same room with her, now you know why.” Nosa turns to Eghosa. “You ruined my life; I lived with the guilt of what I did to my brother, and anytime I saw Efosa, I was pained because he was a constant reminder of what we did. You took away my life, I decided to stay celibate to punish myself for 30 years. Now the truth is out; I am free, but you Eghosa will die alone and rot in hell.” He moved to leave the room; the lawyers called out to him and handed him a letter from Chief Efe. He collected it and walked out of the room.

Kneeling before her son, Egosa begged, “I am sorry, please I will fix this; I promise you. Please, forgive me, I will make it right again.”

“How are you going to fix this Mum?” He cries. How? Tell me, Mum. How can you make this go away? All the money in the world cannot fix it. It would be better if I was never born, mother. I wish I was never born.”

“No, don’t say that; you are my son, and I love you. Please Efosa, listen to me.”

“No!’ He shouted at her. “I’m done listening to you. You ruined my life; you let me get away with everything. Everyone says I am a brat, reckless, irresponsible and you caused it all. You never reprimanded me, never corrected me. You are a terrible mother, and I want nothing to do with you.”

Egosa wept, “Please Efosa you are all I have.”

He pushed her away “Stay away from me; I don’t ever want to see you again.” He walked out of the room and his mother ran after him.

“Well, our work here is done” The lawyer announced. He asked Imonofi and Adesuwa to visit their office when they resolved their issues. He also handed a letter from Chief Efe written to Imonofi. He then thanked everyone and they left.
