“A WIFE FOR MY HUSBAND” (Part Two)

Episode 7

After enduring the series of events that happened to him, Lakunle, suffered severe depression and suicidal thoughts as he dwells on the losses he suffered and Simi playing him dirty.

Lakunle found solace in alcohol initially, seeking numbness to escape his overwhelming emotions. When this failed, he turned to we.eds. Unfortunately, this led to a significant error at work, resulting in his suspension.

Remaining at home was damaging to Lakunle’s mental state, pushing him further into a downward spiral. He became desperate, and he turned to stronger drugs, introduced to him by someone in his circle. As a result, Lakunle will lie unconscious for the most part of the day, neglecting basic needs like eating and bathing. His friend concerned for his well-being, decided to inform his parents, who had also been distressed by his prolonged silence.

Seeing Lakunle in such a pitiable state, his parents were filled with regret over their actions. Reflecting on their choices, they wished they could turn back time and allow Lakunle and Adesuwa to adopt a child. The realization of the beautiful life they had carelessly destroyed weighed heavily on their conscience.

“Mami, if only we had known. Lakunle and Adesuwa shared a rare and deep love. Their connection was special.”

“Yes, Bami, we thought we were doing what was best for them. Little did we know that Simi and her parents had their own agenda, taking advantage of our vulnerability to fulfill their plans. God will judge them. As for Lakunle, we are taking him home.”

His parents brought him back to their home in Ibadan, but dealing with his situation proved challenging. Lakunle was aggressive and would often disappear from home for days. Eventually, his parents made the difficult decision to admit him to a rehabilitation centre.

The detoxication process was difficult and heart-wrenching. Witnessing Lakunle’s struggles, Mami couldn’t hold back her tears. She decided to look for Adesuwa, to plead with her to return to Lakunle, only to discover that Adesuwa had relocated abroad.

Lakunle journey to recovery was slow and painful. In the darkest moments, Nurse Modupe provided solace by reading the Bible to him, helping him find peace and calmness. As Lakunle’s condition improved, he formed a bond with Nurse Modupe and was able to open up about the challenges he had faced.

Modupe offered encouragement, “Lakunle, many people don’t realize that everyone has a path to follow in life, what we call destiny. Along this journey, we make mistakes and wrong choices. But if we allow God to help us, even when we stray, He brings us back to the right path. God is aware of you and all that has happened to you. Why don’t you let Him help you?”

“How,” Lakunle asked.

“Pray a simple prayer, declaring that you believe He sent his son, Jesus Christ, to die for you, and confess him as the Lord of your life?”

“Just that?”

“Yes. Just that.”

“It seems so simple. If I do that will Adesuwa come back to me?”

“I don’t know, but you can talk to Him about Adesuwa if you like. When we pray, He answers.”

After listening to Modupe Lakunle gave his life to Jesus, and became born again.

Lakunle spent several months in rehab but every day he was getting better. He was later released from the rehab centre and he tried to get his life back on track.

Modupe introduced him to a friend who offered him a job in Ibadan. While Lakunle kept a close friendship with Modupe, who had developed feelings for him, he remained obsessed with Adesuwa. Every night before sleeping, he would pray, asking God to bring Adesuwa back to him. One night, he begged God to reveal whether he and Adesuwa would reunite. To his surprise, he dreamt of himself being married, but the bride’s face remained elusive.

Several months later another job took him back to Lagos. Every weekend he would return to Ibadan to be with Modupe. While Lakunle still viewed her as a friend, Modupe’s feelings went deeper. But his heart remained entangled in thoughts of Adesuwa.
