Chapter Nine
I sat with Fred in the sitting room placing my head on his thigh as we eat popcorn and drinks from the table. I asked him why he hasn’t gone to work ever since I started living with him as he told me he doesn’t want to leave me alone bored and just wanted me to be alright to be able to stay alone.
“Come on! I’m not a baby you know darling!” I said sitting up facing him.
He laughed nodding his head that he will be going from tomorrow since I have said I can stay alone without him at night. I lay back on his thigh as I thought of breaking the news of the pregnancy to him since we have had sexual intercourse twice without him knowing I’m pregnant. I don’t know if it has meaning to me being pregnant already. But, thank God my stomach is not obvious yet, and the fact that he is even a guy and I didn’t make it obvious to him is even better because he didn’t know.
“darling”. I called him.
“yes love”. He answered as I raised my head.
“I have something to tell you”. I said happily as he looked straight into my eyes smiling.
“What is it?” He asked.
“Guess.” I said.
“I can’t guess because I’m not good at it”. He said laughing.
I stood up spinning around joyously as he looked confused.
“What is it babe?” He asked confusingly.
“Well, you know I told you I was not feeling well for some days now and….”
“Yes I know about it and you said you will need to see doctor.” He answered looking at me and pausing for a minute. wait….wait don’t tell me you’re pregnant sweetheart?. He asked as I nodded my head. Are you for real???
He asked happily as he carried me up in excitement spinning me around.
“oh! you’re hurting your baby!” I said immediately as he carried me down touching my stomach and placing his head over it.
“I’m just so happy right now! like you’re pregnant! ohhh thank you Jesus!” He said happily.
“Are you that happy?” I asked looking at him as he shouted YES excitedly.
I really felt so happy as my plan really worked. So, I don’t have to think about having anything to do with Aunty Susan husband again. I now have a wonderful family to focused on even though I know the child is not his.
“Where do you want me to take you to for shopping?” He asked as I swinged my body telling him I prefer a boutique where I can get a nice baby things.
“I will carry you there tomorrow!” He said excitedly carrying me up to the room. I need to top more to make it twins”.
I laughed continuously as he lay me on the bed while undressing happily to have his way. I don’t care about the pains I’m going through with the way he struck his way in most times. All I’m glad for is that my two months plus baby is going to live a great life after his birth.

SOME MONTHS LATER
I have been living the good life I ever desire and the love I have for Fred now is unquenchable. He provided all my needs as he never for once neglected my wants. I’m now used to sleeping alone at night before he arrives late at night that I might not even know when he would come in. I decided to stay awake one night to await him surprisingly as I waited in the sitting room on the couch laying down.
I looked at the wall clock and see that it’s already late than my expectations as it’s 2:51am.
“So, this is how he do comes in late at night wow!”. I looked at the time again dozing off repeatedly.
I don’t think I can wait anymore as my body is not ready to take it again. I stood up with my big belly walking towards the room when I head the sound of his car coming in. I quickly went to the window to check and ran back to the couch to lay down pretending to be sleeping. Some minutes later I heard his footstep as he entered, I wanted to get up but I didn’t know what pinned me down as I stay back still closing my eyes.
“Sweetheart’ why are you sleeping here?”
I didn’t answer him as he carried me up groaning and going to the room. I was perceiving some certain odour from his body and wondered why he’s smelling that way. I just don’t want him to know while I pretended on purpose.

I couldn’t believe my yesterday Target couldn’t work as one of my boys was shot on his leg during the work out. I decided to go see Baba( Native doctor) to complain About it.
“you should know what you intend to do not when you will be told. He said looking at me.
“Do you mean the time for renewal is complete baba?” I asked.
“Of course! or you only go out to work at night without having it at the back of your mind that you will have to renew.” He said while opening his Calabash.
I think for a second and ask him how I would see a pregnant woman at this moment.
“Don’t you know how you do it before?” He asked angrily.
“Baba, don’t be offended na I was just imagining how to get one now.
“You better think fast.” He said.
I think for long searching how to get one when I suddenly remembered I have one at home. I told him not to worry as I will be bringing one tomorrow.
“Make sure you use that spell oo ” He said warning me.
“Baba, don’t worry she will surely follow me here willingly.” I said while laughing as he looked at me to be sure of what I just said. don’t worry baba I will bring her.

I was in the kitchen in the afternoon when a call came in on my phone and was surprised seeing Aunty Susan husband calling me. I ignored it at first and decided to pick it and hear him out to know if he mistakenly dial my number.
“Hello ooo
“Hello Chioma…. please don’t end the call”. He said quickly.
I told him to say whatever he wants to before I end the call. He started begging me and telling me that he’s sorry that he truly knows he is the one responsible for my pregnancy that hope I haven’t abort it.
“And what if I have abort it, how does that concerns you? ” I said shouting at him.
“Please I beg you in the name of God, I know you can’t do it”. He said pleading.
“I’m sorry I have abort it and I am living a peaceful life now. “I said to him as he shouted.
“My life, business, family as been miserable for some months now. infact my wife has left me and relocated abroad and…..”
“So, how does that concerns me?”. I asked.
“I was told I offended someone who I raped and also rejected her pregnancy. That until I seek for forgiveness and take charge of the baby before all my lost will be restored back to me. so, please Chioma if you know you’re lying just tell me the truth. see I I promise to give you a big house for you to live in and I will also confess to my wife what I did…..”
I was about answering him when Fred comes in unannounced.
“Who is that?” He asked looking so sad and worried.
I ended the call immediately to meet him and tells him is a man that as been bothering me since all this while.
“Is it your madam husband?” I was surprised that he could actually guess right about him.
“He is not the one”. I said lying to him.
“Hmm'”. He replied going back to the sitting room as I followed him asking him what is happening to him.
This is the first time I will be seeing Fred crying profusely like someone who lost a relative. I became worried asking him what happened.
“You won’t believe what…. is actually going on with me right now sweetheart.” He said as I cleaned his eyes.
“Don’t worry just tell me what it is.
He began to explain that he has a big deal work he does apart from the one his father left for him to handle and right now it’s at the edge of collapsing.
“It won’t collapse in Jesus name! as the Lord liveth it will never collapse. ” I said repeatedly as he shakes his head telling me this is not time for this as his house might even go for it.
I jumped in fear asking him what could be done to stop it from crumbling.
“it’s just a little sacrifice sweetheart..
“Ehn! sacrifice!!! why ? did you do blood money?”. I asked in shocked as he laughed.
“Do I look like someone who could do such when I’m from a rich home. The sacrifice is not like all those blood money or whatever ooo it’s just to boost my company sales. He said looking at me while telling me to calm down and sit.
“So, is that how you have been doing ever since?”. I asked surprisingly.
“Yes, sweetheart.
“But, how do you do it then, is it woman that do it or you?” I asked wanting to be sure.
“It was my ex girlfriend that helped me the last time before we broke up. if you could remember why I told you I want a sincere person to be with me and not someone that would be squandering my money anyhow without having plan for her future.
“Oh! I remembered you told me about her but, you never mentioned her doing a sacrifice for you.” I said.
“I know. it’s just that I don’t want to push things out like that to you. So, please sweetheart do this for us or do you want my company and our house to be down?” He asked as I nodded my head signifying No.
I thought for some minutes looking at him.
“I hope it won’t have any effect?”. I asked looking scared already. Even if I will want to do it, it will be because I love him and I don’t want him to be sad about anything.
” it doesn’t have any side effect, at least I showed you my ex girlfriend picture on Instagram back then that she is even married. You should know if it does she would have been troubling the hell out of me that you would have know. So, are you doing it for me sweetheart?” He asked kissing my lips and rubbing my belly.
