Debby tossed up and down her bed until she got up to go ease herself.
On getting back to bed, she discovered she was no longer sleepy so she sat up and reached out for her Bible and jotter close to her.
Just then, she recalled the dream she had just had and decided to pray about it first.

In her dream, she was wearing a filthy garment and holding on tight to a shabbily packaged present. A man standing in front of her stretched his hand towards her, requesting that she hands over her dirty garment and present to him, but she bluntly refused and held on to them like her life depended on them.

“But why would I be holding on to something as dirty as that, and who’s the man that was asking I’d give them to him?” She questioned herself as she replayed the dream in her mind severally.

“Omo sometimes ehn, dreams and their mysterious interpretations are something else.” She said with a sigh and laid back in bed and thought less about it, since she couldn’t get a clue of what it meant.

She gave a smile as her memory flashed back to Charity who she visited a few days back

She recalled Charity telling her about how she was going about grumbling about her marital issues while God had been signalling to her to focus on the salvation of Debby’s soul. She never knew in the obedience of that assignment lied her marital breakthrough.

“Babe, you wouldn’t believe it” Charity told her “the moment your mom came to pick you from here to go get mentored, that same week my husband showed up. Asin ehn, I was amazed.”

“Oh wow. Amazing God. In the obedience to God’s will and assignment lies desired breakthroughs”

“Exactly dear, exactly.” She recalled Charity said and smiled to herself.

“I’m so happy for her. She deserves the breakthrough.” Debby whispered to herself as her mind drifted back to pondering on the dream she just had.

“Why on earth would I hold on to filthy things in this life for God’s sake?” She pondered in her heart, trying to decide what the filthy garment and present meant.

“Are there still weaknesses in my life I haven’t handled yet?” She asked herself. She kept thinking about it until she drifted back to sleep on her bed.

They had just finished an evening service in church. Debby got up from the altar she had been on since the service closed and headed home.

Along the way, her mom called to ask her whereabouts.

“I’m already heading home mummy, I’m almost close to our street”

“Oh okay dear, no problem but please help me with #100Ugwu and half bottle of groundnut oil. I ran out of cash today, so I couldn’t get those before coming home.” Debby’s mom said as Debby chuckled

“You and this your little little errands shaaa. Okay mummy, I’ve heard you.”
On getting into a “keke-napep” that’d take her home, she observed the man sitting beside her kept stealing glances at her like he knows her from somewhere.

“Excuse me ma’am. You look so familiar. Have we met somewhere before?” The young man asked as soon as they alighted.
Debby turned around to see if she could answer his question as honestly as possible.

“No I don’t think……wait, Fred?”

After having dinner that night with the family, Mrs. Helen cleared the dishes and went to the bedroom to rest a bit.

She had missed her sons’ presence so much and it suddenly dawned on her that she hasn’t really been spending quality time with her sons and family as a whole.

“The Proverbs 31 woman….God help me.” She soliloquized and breathed heavily.

“Is there something I can help you with?” Chief asked, interrupting her thoughts

“Something to help me with?” She asked to be sure she heard well.

“Yes. I don’t want you doing strenuous work that you’d be too tired to pray at night.”

“Interesting. Since when did he develop interest in the vigils I keep? I thought it was a great disturbance to him.” She thought to herself as she sat up to listen to him.

“So….is there anything I can do for you?”

“No no no no not anything I can think of for now.” She said and left for the restroom.

“Okay, what just happened?” She asked herself and thought for a while before coming out out the bathroom and laid down back on the bed.

“I think I need a little rest. I’ve been working all day and I feel tired abit.”

“Oh okay.” Henry said and there was an awkward silence between them before he spoke up.

“Honestly Helen, the truth is I don’t want you to miss vigils anymore. Infact, with the way things are going now, I feel like it’s best I join you but I don’t know if that’s really possible.”

“Hmmm…..okay. You don’t have to get yourself all worked up, I don’t plan on missing my personal vigils. The once I missed weren’t intentional at all….most times what happens is I get stressed out during the day and……”

“That’s the point Helen, that’s the point. From now on, I don’t want you getting too stressed out or too tired to pray.”

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Debby was in her room full of her thoughts that she didn’t sense when her mom walked in.

“Debby what’s wrong with you. You’ve been this way ever since you came back from evening service today. Did something happen?”

“No ma’am, I’m fine.”

“Debby you and I know that is an obvious lie. You seem to be upset about something. Tell me, what is it? Did something happen?”

Helen got up at exactly 15mins to 12midnight, ready for prayers. By this time, Chief had already slept off, as well as the kids.

A few minutes to her prayer time she felt the urge to engage in sincere worship which lasted longer than her usual stipulated time but the more she tried to stop and go into prayers, the stronger the urge to keep praising and worshipping.

When she ran out of songs, she carried a hymn book she had just bought and began to sing familiar hymns.

Meanwhile….

Kadar kept trying so hard to have an access into Chief’s dreams but all attempts proved futile.

“Why is making use of my powers so difficult these days?” He asked furiously.

“Because you’re fighting against the apple of God’s eye.” A voice within him replied

“Apple of whose eye? Chief’s soul isn’t committed into the hands of the Almighty in anyway.” He argued

“But someone keeps interceding for his soul incessantly.” The voice responded.

“His wife.” He said with a gnash of teeth and tightened fist.

“If only I could get that praying woman out of the way, this assignment on my neck would be easy.”

“Well, you can try but you might get burned.”

Debby got up from her bed like someone that just had a nightmare.

“The same dream again.” She whispered to herself

“But why would I firmly keep holding on to rags and filthy things? What does this mean? Or is there something in my life that’s filthy before God?” She asked herself over and over.

“You’re not asleep?” Her mom said as she walked into her room.

“I just woke up.” She replied and turned to look at the time.
It was 2am and she wondered what her mom was doing in her room at that hour.

“Well, I came to check up on you to be sure you’re sleeping on bed and not on your reading table like you do these days.”

“Ohhh …thank you Ma.”

“You’re welcome.” Mom said with a smile and was about leaving when Debby stopped her.

“Mummy wait! I had a dream.” Debby said and that hot her mother’s attention.

“A dream? Okay, I’m listening.” Her mom said and Debby narrated the dream to her.

“I’ve had this particular dream like twice now and each time I wake up from the dream, my spirit is disturbed.”

“Why worry or get disturbed when you can pray?” Her mom said like a whisper that Debby didn’t hear her properly.

“You said what?”

“Yes dear, why worry when you can pray? Have you forgotten the Bible said we should be careful for nothing? Simply put, we should be anxious, worried or depressed for nothing, but take everything to God through prayer, Thanksgiving and supplication. If you’re worried sick about your dream and what it means, take it to God in prayer. It’s obvious your dream came from God since it’s trying to warm you about something in you that’s filthy, so it’s His will that you understand the dream perfectly and act accordingly.”

“Hmmm…..okay, I’d do just that.”

“Jesus. Thank you Jesus!” Helen whispered from her sleep and that startled her husband.

“What is it? Is something wrong?”

“I just I just had a….”

“Nightmare?” Chief tried to complete her speech

“No no no, it’s more like a dream of reassurance that exposed the plans of the enemy.”

“So what did you see?” Chief asked impatiently.

“A man….a short man dressed in a fetish manner, talking about his plans in his secret room. When I realized where I was, I tried to listen closely and discovered his wicked plans was against you and I. When I was about to panic and wonder what a native doctor had to do with us, I heard a voice say. ‘Despite this, do not fear.’ Then I had this peace within me before I woke up.” Helen narrated and immediately Chief’s mind drove back to Kadar immediately.

“Are you here?” Helen asked, shaking her absent-minded husband lightly

“Yes yes dear, I’m listening.”

“So as I was saying, I can’t tell what we must’ve done to a native doctor that he’d have such evil agenda against us.”

“Hmmm…..Our God will fight for us.”

“Our God?”

“Yes our God.” Chief said and then thought in his heart.

“God Almighty, I’ve automatically acknowledged you as my God now. Kadar isn’t after us, he’s after me. Please fight for me, fight for my soul.”

Wow okay, thank God this is really earlier than I expected it to be.

It’s so amazing ( and annoying sometimes honestly) how people who have been so neck-deep into evil run back to God when there comes a problem they can’t handle.

Well, the mystery of our faith and awesomeness of our God who is rich in mercy give them the chance to be part of the kingdom…..and they end up doing well o, even better than those who are citizens of the kingdom by birth (you get?)

Hmmm….. It is well.
