Husband Material episode 4

Episode 4

Husband Material

As the fine guy approached us, I couldn’t stop smiling and nodding my head. I was already, seeing us, standing together at the altar, taking our vows before the priest and the congregation.

“Why are you smiling?”. Diana tapped me, jilting me back to reality.

“This is him”. I whispered back.

“Good day, beautiful ladies. I am Dennis Okechukwu”. The fine boy started his introduction.

“Did you hear hear his voice?. It’s so romantic”. I whispered to Diana.

“Dennis, do you know why you’re here?”. Diana asked.

“I know”. He nodded.

“How old are you?”. Benita chipped in.

“I’m 32”. He replied, exposing his gap teeth.

That guy is everything.

I couldn’t stop smiling, and admiring his voice and his height as he smartly answers every question thrown at him, without difficulty.

“Do you think you’re husband material?”. Diana asked the final question.

“100 yards”. He answered.

I concurred.

“Please wait for us outside”. Diana pleaded with him.

I watched him, until he walked out of the living room.

“Do you not like the way he walks?”. I asked them.

“Gina, why are you acting strange?”. Diana asked, as soon as he was gone.

“I think I like this particular one. He is the best among them”. I smiled.

“No, aunt, he is the worst of them all”. Alicia chipped in.

There was total silence, as everyone turned to face Alicia, like she said something improper.

“You’re no longer needed here”. I said.

She got up, and went back upstairs immediately.

“Gina, I think Alicia is right. This guy looks so much like a playboy, he doesn’t look responsible to me at all”. Rita observed, as soon as Alicia left.

“Yes, I think so too. That guy is not close to being a husband material, and that is what you said you needed”.

I shook my head.

“I don’t know what you guys are talking about, but you see that Dennis, he is the one for me”. I said.

“Are you sure that is what you want?”. Diana asked.

“Final answer, Dennis”. I replied.

“Why is nobody talking about the age gap here?”. Benita observed.

“Because, age is just a number”. Diana replied.

“Gina, use your head. You should have slept over this. That second guy looks more like a husband material. This Dennis guy, there is something not right about him”. Rita advised.

“With all due respect, Rita. If you are crushing on that second guy, you’re free to go to him, they are still outside”. I advised her.

“You should know Gina by now, no need to give her advice once her mind is made up” Charity said to Rita.

After a long debate, the rest of the guys were dismissed, and Dennis was brought back to the living room.

“Dennis, do you know who you will be dating?”. Diana asked.

He shook his head.

At this point, Alicia walked down again. That girl!

“All the girls here are beautiful, nobody is looking bad at all”. Dennis flirted.

“Thanks for the complement, but you’re not having everyone here. You will be dating just one person, and here she is”. Diana continued, holding me on the shoulder.

“Wow!. He exclaimed, and came closer to me.

….babe”. He added.

No one has called me that in ages.

Everyone is the room started laughing, except Alicia.

After the familiarity, we celebrated our relationship by making a toast with glasses of champagne.

“We toast to a wonderful friendship, filled with love and joy”. Diana said.

“In six months time, we will come back for asoebi”. Charity said.

“No, six months is too long, three months is perfect”. Diana said, and everyone laughed.

Before 6pm, all the girls were gone.

“Hmmm, is she your daughter?”. Dennis asked, referring to Alicia, who curled herself on one of the couches.

“Not really. She is my ward”. I replied.

Alicia sighed.

After another round of drinking, he announced he will be taking his leave.

“You can go with any of the cars outside”. I said, picking the car keys.

“Really!”. exclaimed

“Forward me your account details, I will transfer some money into your account, tomorrow morning. I want you to go shopping, change your wardrobe”. I said.

He held up my hand to his mouth, and kissed my wrist.

“Thank you so much, my love. I promise never to let you down”. He said.

“Where do you even live?”. I asked, as I led him outside to pick the car he likes.

“Me?, I live in the ghetto”. He replied.
