In the ensuing days, Ade and Lola found themselves faced with another wahala, Dele their son shot his stepfather Kolapo. Yes! It was Kolapo who had taken the bullet, and he was now in a coma at the hospital. Before the police arrived at the scene, Ade collected the gun from his son, and when the authorities arrived, he voluntarily accepted responsibility for the incident. Lola and Dele were confused by Ade’s actions, but there was no time for questions as he was handcuffed and swiftly taken away by the police.

When Lola visited Ade in the cell, she asked him why he had chosen to bear the blame.

“Everything that happened was my fault. I kept making one mistake after another. First, I cheated, then I didn’t fight hard enough to keep my family together, and lastly, I abandoned my family. Dunni is gone, and nothing must happen to Dele. He has his whole life ahead of him. This is my doing; let me bear the cross,” Ade confessed with a heavy heart.

Tears welled up in Lola’s eyes as she replied, “I’m so sorry, Ade. I should have let bygones be bygones. After the divorce, I realized that all the complaints and grudges no longer matter, but my pride wouldn’t let me admit it. Look at what my unforgiving heart has done.” They both wept bitterly, holding each other.

“Don’t cry, Lola. All I ask is that you forgive me. I don’t deserve it, but please forgive me.”

“I forgive you completely. I bear no grudges anymore; the price of unforgiveness is too high.”

“Thank you, Lola. This means so much to me. Please take care of Dele and tell him I’m sorry I failed him as a father. Now I can face whatever comes out of this situation.”

“We will come out of it. The lawyer told us to pray for Kolapo to come out of the coma. If he does, we stand a good chance of winning the case, citing a temporary insanity,” Lola explained.

Kolapo remained in a coma for several weeks, and when he eventually regained consciousness, the doctors delivered a devastating diagnosis — he would never be able to walk again after taking a bullet to the thigh and the spinal cord.

The presiding judge, understanding the complexity of the situation and the actions of a desperate father, acquitted Ade, but warned him never to take the law into his own hands. As for Kolapo, his case served as a caution for others in similar situations. The case was dismissed, and Ade was released.

Following Ade’s release, they held a quiet funeral for Dunni, a deeply emotional ceremony for her family. After the burial, Lola proceeded to divorce Kolapo and moved into a different apartment.

Ade and Lola made a joint decision to reconcile and work on their problems. Dele welcomed their decision with joy, and in no time, they were remarried, resuming life together as a family. Their pain remained a constant presence, but it also served as a catalyst for change.
Ade and Lola understood that they couldn’t change the past, but they were committed to honouring their daughter’s memory by supporting and protecting their surviving child.

They sought grief counseling together to navigate their complex emotions, realizing that forgiveness, empathy, and understanding were essential for their healing and the well-being of their family. Several months into their renewed marriage, Lola became pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl whom they named after their late daughter Dunni.
