Osuwake episode 10

OSUWAKE

Episode 10

I sought refuge with my elder sister where she was managing and patching up her life after the traumatic experience she had been through in her late husband hands.

I cried my heart out and explained everything to her, she consoled me and assured me that she will talk to her male friend to figure a way out.

I stayed there for a while and my sister’s male friend promised to get a job for me which he eventually did. He finally secured a job for me as a househelp to one rich man from our state who owns a house in Lagos.

Before i moved to Lagos, i went to my big Aunty house, where my mum lived and begged everybody to forgive me, she and her children accepted and wished me well.

I moved to Lagos, my first outing outside the shores of my home state. We lived in one of the estates in Ajah. my boss and his madam were very rich. The man wasn’t based in Nigeria too. He only visits Nigeria on occassions and maybe serious emergency – his visits wasn’t frequent at all.

Each time he visits Nigeria, he stays in his house in Lagos and transits to wherever he wishes to go from there. His wife too was equally rich, she travels outside the country every weekend and most times spends up to one-two months before returning.

We were two househelps and each time our madam travels she drops alot of money for us to purchase food stuffs and live happily. We go to market every saturday with the money our madam keeps for us while travelling. We were living very fine and there was no serious work there – just me and my co-househelp.

There was no much trouble over there but my boss attitude towards me each time he was around was not something to joke about because of my past experiences.

He regurlarly inquires about me from the other househelp and i kept wondering why he always does that. You know as a young girl staying with a very rich and wealthy couple – i was looking very fresh then.

There was this particular day, i was bathing inside the bathroom, because after the kitchen and the washing room; the next is our room. So, when he came there, he asked the other househelp where i was and she told him i was bathing inside the bathroom.

The other househelp thought he was going inside the washing machime room but rather he came inside our room and opened our door without knocking. He charged through the bathroom while i was bathing – he saw everything! He beckoned on me to come and peel oranges for him and left.

Since that day, i felt insecured under their care and looked for a way out of the house because i was scared that something unpleasant might happen to me one day there. I contacted some of my church people i had known there to look fo another work for me as i didn’t even have the chance to attend to most of our church meetings then.

So, i left the comfort in Ajah as a result of the negative feelings i was having in the house. I moved to another location in Lagos and started another work but still as a househelp.

This time around the couples i was staying with were both working class couples. They go to work in the morning and usually return home late, sometimes around 11pm or 12pm.

They had two children too. They weren’t really going to church at all and not caring too. The both of them were not role models as they involved in extra marital affairs. The both of them cheat in marriage and the worst of it all, they normally catch each order cheating but pays nonchalace attitude to it.

it wasn’t a conducive and healthy environment for me to live at all and so i started making plans to migrate to another place..

while living with the couple and looking for a way to get another job, the court case between my dad and mum lingered on and this time, my dad went and changed all our birth certificates, he alleged that the reason why he was not taking care of us was because we were all adults and some of us were married and living with our husbands. Owing to this fact, we were taking adequate care of ourselves.

when my mumy told me all this and that my dad was using his money to change everything in order to win the case against her. I travelled back to my hometown to bear witness and serve as evidence for my mum in court.
