The Secret (Final Chapter)
I froze when she told me how she gave birth to a son. Due to the shock, I couldn’t leave the restaurant anymore. I came back and sat down, staring into thin air as train of thoughts took over me.
“But Lina, why didn’t you tell me all these years? How do you want my wife to handle all these if she eventually gets to hear it?”, I broke down in tears.
“Listen, our son is in the village and I won’t bring him to your house. At least, not for now”
“Lina, what do you want from me?”
“Emmy, I need 2∅ million naira and I will leave your life forever. In fact, you won’t see me anymore. I promise!”
“Where do you want me to get that kind of money?”
“Aside that money, I also want us to make løve again even if it is once. Send me a message whenever you’re ready with the two demands”, she said before leaving the restaurant.
Right before me, my wørld crumbled. It was so difficult to believe that my past has finally come to destrøoy my marriage.
Instantly, I called my friend, Fred and narrated my ordeal to him so that he will proffer solution to me.
“My guy, just do what she said so as to save your marriage. Your wife doesn’t deserve to hear such news”
On my way home that evening, I decided that I will do what Fred advised me to do without hesitation. Telling Clara, my wife, will lead to breakdown of peace in my home ans that was the last thing on my mind.
Even as I got home, I couldn’t concentrate anymore. When Clara tried to find out what the problem was, I feigned that I wasn’t feeling well.
“Honey, I guess it was because of the stressful day you had at the office. Please, go and sleep so that you will be okay in the morning”, she said before planting a kîsss on my lips.
I made up my mind that I was going to have séx with Lina since my wife wouldn’t be at home. Grabbing my phone, I sent a message to Lina.
“Get ready tomorrow. Let’s do this once and for all. After this, I don’t want to ever sét my eyes on you ever again”.
Just as I was about to sleep, I got a reply from her.
“I will be waiting earnestly for you”.
As I woke up in the morning, I felt happy probably because everything was going to end that day. At least, Lina won’t interfere in my marriage ever again.
That evening, as my wife was preparing for her night shift, my heart kept thumping.
It felt as if I was going to betray her but I quickly waved it off since it would be the last time.
When she dressed up, I drove her to the office and bade her farewell but as I was about to go, I had a change of mind.
“Babe, I’m going to leave the car for you. You can come back with it in the morning”
“Awwwwn, thanks honey. I love you. Anyways, I will come back very early”
I boarded a tricycle which brought me home.
On getting home, I decided to go to the back of the house and pack the clothes since it was drizzling.
As I was approaching Lina’s window, I overheard her taking to someone on the phone. Since it was on loudspeaker, I discovered the caller was Fred, my best friend.
“Listen, make sure you record everything that will happen between you and my friend tonight. In the morning, make sure you come to my house with the 20 million so that we can start processing our visa immediately. Remember that we will need the videos to get more money from him in future”.
“Alright, I love you Fred”, Lina said.
“I love you too”, he replied.
I couldn’t believe what I heard.
How could my best friend plan with my ex- girlfriend to dèstrøy my life, after everything I’ve done for him?
I phoned the police and both of them were arrestedd.
During the course of the interrogation, I discovered that Lina was never pregnant for me.
Fred also hæted me because I got married to Clara, the woman he loved for years but couldn’t open up and tell her what he felt for her.
