First, he gave me a wry smile.

“It’s okay.. It was just a little help and It doesn’t worth a drink. Excuse me, I have to go,” he said, turned and without withholding another step, he walked away.

Yeah. I flopped this time, and all I did was stand there and watch him until he was out of my sight.

“This is going to be hard,” I sighed.

**

Three hours had gone by and here I am, in this room, still pondering on how to get Eric Wilfred closer to me.

I need a good maneuver.

What the hell do I need to do to make this work. I can’t come all the way here, only to end up achieving nothing. I need this money. Five million naira isn’t a small money for me to give up.

‘Desire you need to think right,’ I told myself but no strategy was coming to my head.

Maybe because the man I saw doesn’t look like one who’s ready to have more than a two minutes conversation with a lady talk more of sleeping with her.

Lora was right. Indeed, he look like the faithful husband she said he is, but I’m not going to give up so soon. It’s just the first day! If I was able to get his hands on my back, I would be able to get them on my as$ and even further.

Sleeping with more than one woman is in nigerian men’s blood, he won’t be difference. I came here to make him cheat on his wife and I must succeed, no matter what!

I left my my job that I’ve been working for two years to do this job so, I can’t even think of failing it. I must succeed, in whatever way.

I walked to the full length mirror and stared at my reflection.

I’m beautiful, endowed and I’ve got what it takes to make Eric Wilfred cheat on his wife with me, and I’m going to succeed. I must.

I need just a little more thought and I’ll sure get a perfect strategy. Maybe an alcohol will help. Yeah.

I walked to the landline and made an order for one.

Four hours after a bottle of alcohol which helped me in getting a good strategy that will certainly be a good step to achieving my goal here, I made my way to the hotel’s swimming pool, not to swim but to just sit at the cabana and enjoy the atmosphere of people swimming.

There is no way I was going to be stuck in that room all day. I need some sunlight and some natural air, and the pool is the perfect place to get it in this hotel.

It doesn’t look like Eric Wilfred will be returning to the hotel until evening but gladly, even if he returns this afternoon, from the pool side, I would be able to see him when he’s back and making his way in.

I’ve set the strategy already. All I need to do now is execute it once he returns.

With a glass of juice and a bubble gum to keep my mouth busy, I relaxed at the pool’s cabana, enjoying the scenario of singles, couples, friends and families having a fun afternoon in the pool.

I can’t swim, so I wouldn’t even think of taking a step closer. I’ll happily enjoy my afternoon from here.

But I forgot something when I decided to come here. I totally forgot that there’s someone I needed to avoid and I only remembered the moment I saw him walking towards me.

Maybe I didn’t remember because I wasn’t expecting to see him…. no no, that’s not it. I forgot about someone called Remi.

He wasn’t in suit this time.

“Hello Desire..” he called immediately he got to me.

“Hi,” I mumbled indifferently, my eyes at the pool.

The fact that Tana Wilfred number four rule is that; I shouldn’t try to connect with any other person here except her husband or try to make friends’ gives me worries and the fact that I’ve told him my real name too.

“It’d be nice if you add my name to the Hi..” he said, “…or have you forgotten my name already?”

“Does it matter?” I asked.

“Yeah… because I want to know if you still remember my name.”

I almost rolled my eyes but chuckled instead, “It was just yesterday, why won’t I?”

“Thank God. There’s hope for me,” he said.

What does he mean by that?

I wanted to ask him but realizing that it will only cause further conversation, I discarded it.

“What are you doing at the pool with a jean on?” he asked and without asking, sat down beside me.

“Because I’m not here to swim and…” I glanced at him, “…it seems I’m not the only one,” I answered.

He laughed, “Oops.. but I’m here to swim.”

“Hmm with a jean and a T-shirt on right?”

“Just for a moment.. I’m taking them off any moment from now,” he said.

Uuhh… I think i’ll need to leave now. I don’t think I want to see his bare body.

“Can I make you swim with me?” he asked.

“I’m.. I’m not interested,” I said and gulped down the remaining juice in the glass, now ready to leave.

“Wait.. you just drank all that juice. I hope you ain’t thinking of running away again like yesterday?” he asked.

‘Well I am, because I need to avoid you. You ain’t the reason why I’m here’

I scoffed, “Run away for what?.. I’ve enjoyed the atmosphere enough.”

I made to stand up after saying that but he held my hand.

What?

My stare at him caused him to drop my hand immediately.

“I’m sorry.. I’m just… starting to like you..” he said.

What?

“And I want to have a longer conversation with you. I want to get to know you better Desire. I never wanted to tell you this, but my flight back to Lagos was this morning, but after meeting you last night, I didn’t feel like going anymore..”

Seriously? He canceled his flight because of me. That’s quite funny.

His eyes were trying to gaze into mine but I was trying my best to keep my eyes off his, but what he just said was making me feel like looking at his eyes to see the truth. If he’s actually telling me the truth.

“I believe you shouldn’t have done that,” I said.

“No I believe I did the right thing, because I know it’ll be worth it,” he said.

Gawd.. I need to do something.

But I had no idea what to do. I didn’t even know what to say.

I know I need to avoid him, but I can’t even tell him to stay away from me. It feels like I don’t even want him to stay away from me.

“Thank you” he said.

I looked at him, “For what?”

“For not leaving anymore.”

“I–”

He interrupted me, “Can you swim?”

I sighed.

“I can’t.”

He got up and in seconds, he had taken his shirt and his trouser off, now standing in front of me with his bare chest and a boxer.

I tried my best to keep my eyes off his body but maybe a little glance won’t be bad.

“I’ll teach you how to,” he said.

“No.. I’m fine here,” I said.

A minute later, he had dived into the pool and I couldn’t help but watch him.

It’s been two years since my last relationship ended. It didn’t end in a good way because I got heart broken.

The way he walked into my life is similar to the way Remi is trying to.

I met him at a church youth conference camp and before I could stop myself, I was already in love with him. It happened so fast and I was so deeply inlove with him that I did just anything he asked me to and when the heartbreak came a year later, it almost got me into depression.

I don’t think it’s going to work this time, with Remi, besides there’s a rule I have to abide.

I’ll have to tell him to stay away from me.

**

Eric Wilfred returned at exactly 7:30pm. I had no tape on him to know that, His wife told me. She was actually the tape.

It got me wondering if he tells her everything he does, including when he goes to the toilet and when he showers.

First she knew the hotel he was lodging to the extent of knowing the room. She knew the time he arrived at the airport and the time he returned from wherever he went.

What kind of love does he really have for her?

*

With the small bag in my right hand, I made my way to his door.

I was ready to execute my strategy and hoping that it work.

How I was able to get away from Remi? That’s a story for another day.

Taking a deep breath and swooshing it out, I raised my left hand and knocked on Eric Wilfred’s door.

It took him more than a minute to answer and when he finally showed up, I let out a smile.

“Hello Mr Eric.”

He looked surprised.

“Ms…..”

Seems he has forgotten my name already.

“Jennifer,” I helped him out.

“Ms Jennifer… Can I help you?”

“How was your day?” I asked, not wanting to rush things.

“It went well, thank you,” he said, his questioning eyes on me.

“Actually I think I needed to give you this,” I said and stretched the small shopping bag to him.

“What is that if I may ask?” he asked, not taking it.

“This morning, I offered a drink at the bar but you said what you did for me wasn’t worth a drink… so I got something cheaper, that definitely worths it,” I said, hoping that he takes it.

“I told you not to worry,” he said.

“Come on Mr Eric. I’m just being appreciative. Don’t leave my hand hanging. It’s starting to hurt,” I said.

I saw him exhale, then he took the bag.

I smiled, hoping that he doesn’t open it in my presence because my lingerie is inside.

My plan is for him to see it inside his room, alone. That would give him enough privacy to look at it to his satisfaction.

Should I continue?
