(MY SOULMATE)
“Gloria what’s with you?. You just broke your mother’s keg.” Comfort shouted tapping Gloria who came back to her senses.
“Huh?. Oh no… I’m sorry.” Gloria said bending to gather the broken pieces of the keg.
“Well I think you should be sorry for yourself. Cause your mother won’t take it lightly with you. But why were you looking so lost earlier?. Do you know them?.” Comfort asked.
Gloria quickly stood up and whispered into Comfort’s ear.
“The one on the left is Chris Ogbuefi.”
“What?. Ogbuefi’s son?.” Comfort whispered back totally surprised.
“Yes.” Gloria replied nodding helplessly.
“Then what is he doing here?.” Comfort asked pinching Gloria.
“I don’t know ooo.” Gloria responded totally scared and worried.
“I just hope you haven’t done anything wrong to attract problems to yourself.” Comfort said drawing her right ear. “Cause this unexpected visit looks suspicious to me. God knows I only took you there to eat free food not to cause troubles for yourself. Just imagine what will happen when your parents return to meet him here. How do you intend explaining the situation to them?.” Comfort asked.
Just then, Chris took few steps forward and cleared his throat.
“But on a second thought, I think this Chris guy is kind of cute though.” Comfort whispered into Gloria’s ear. But Gloria had to hit her hand to keep her shut.
“Foodie. So this is where you live?.” Chris asked looking around.
“My name is Gloria. And this is my friend’s house.” Gloria lied. Turning to Comfort, she asked, “Comfort isn’t that right?.” She asked blinking her eyes at Comfort who understood what she meant and played along.
“Hahahaha….y…e..s this is my house. She only came to pay me a visit.” Comfort lied.
Chris who had noticed Gloria blinking at Comfort, couldn’t help but smiled to himself. And so, he decided to toy with Gloria a little.
“Really?. So this is the house of Gloria oguike?.” He asked.
“Yes sir.” Comfort replied without hearing the name Gloria. Then Gloria quickly tapped her to make her change her answer then she said, “I mean no sir it’s actually Comfort’s house.” Comfort said.
Chris couldn’t help but smiled again. Then turning to Gloria he said,
“Okay then, how about you take me to your house.” He said.
“Huh?. My house?.” Gloria asked totally amazed.
“Yes dear. Or will it be wrong if I know the house of the lady who has been to my house and to my room?.” He asked.
“Actually I would have liked to do that. But the problem is that, I don’t really live around this village.” Gloria lied.
“Really?.” Chris asked not believing her lies.
“Yes sir. I came from a very far village. I just came to spend some days with my best friend here.” Gloria lied signalling Comfort to support her.
“Yes…. actually, Gloria here just came to spend some days with me.” Comfort affirmed.
“If that’s the case, then how were you able to attend my welcome party?.” Chris asked Gloria who quickly responded.
“I was actually invited to the party by my friend here.” Gloria said forcing a smile.
“Then I guess your friend here is fully aware that you pretended to be one of those who were contracted to serve food at my welcome party. I have been thinking why did you do that. But on a second thought, It dawned on me that maybe, you did what you did just so you could gain access into my room. And not only did you wrongfully entered my room, you also made use of my restroom without my permission. As if that was not enough, you went as far as eating the food that was meant for me thereby, making me go to sleep on an empty stomach that night.” Chris said.
“No sir. It’s not what you think it is. I didn’t pretend. Infact, I had no intention of going into your room in the first place. I was just there.” Gloria apologized.
“Wow. You mean she had the nerves to do all that?. What exactly was her mission that night?.” Hilary asked Chris from where he stood.
“Ahhh!. Mission?. Noooo. There is nothing like mission o. It’s just complicated.” Gloria shouted.
“I said it. This girl has attracted problem to herself.” Comfort said with her hands on her head.
“Do you even know that you can be arrested for this single act of yours?.” Hilary asked.
“Please sir. Forgive and forget. I’m the only child of my parents please.” Gloria pleaded kneeling down before Chris.
“Please sir forgive my friend. It’s a mistake that won’t repeat itself again.” Comfort pleaded.
“Of course with the both of you locked up in the station, this won’t repeat itself again.” Chris said smirking at Gloria who almost peed on herself out of fear.
“Please sir. If there is anything I can do to make up for my mistakes, then tell me and I will gladly do it.” Gloria said pleading helplessly on her knees.
“Hmmmmm…. anything?.” Chris asked mischievously.
“Yes sir. Anything.” Gloria responded.
“Okay then, I will let this slide if you agree to become my personal cleaner. You will have to clean and tidy my room until when I’m tired of your services.” Chris said.
“Guy, are you being serious right now?. That’s like turning her to your personal slave.” Hilary whispered into Chris’s ear.
“Hey foodie? Will you take my offer?.” Chris asked ignoring Hilary’s words.
“Yes sir. If that’s what will pacify your anger. Then I’m in for it.” Gloria said.
“Good. Then get ready. Your work starts tomorrow morning. When you come over at my place, I will tell you the rules and regulations guiding your new found job. With that being said, I think we will be leaving now. See you tomorrow at work Gloria.” Chris said smiling mischievously at Gloria whose head was bowed in shame.
“Yes sir.” Gloria reluctantly replied.
“That reminds me.” Chris said dipping his hand into his breast pocket. He brought out some money and handed it over to comfort and said.”That’s for the broken Keg. Extend my greetings to your parents when they return.” Chris said. Then he turned and walked to where the car was parked.
As soon as they drove out of the compound, Gloria sat on the ground totally lost and confused.
“Gloria. How do you intend to keep this from your parents?. I think at this point, they have to know about this.” Comfort said.
“Really?. What should I tell them?. Should I say mama, papa, I secretly attended the welcome party that was held at Ogbuefi’s mansion. Then I accidentally or stupidly found myself inside Chris room, bla bla bla….?. You’ve got to be kidding me comfort.” Gloria said.
“Hmmmm. So what do you intend to do now?. If you can’t tell them what conspired between you and Chris at Ogbuefi’s mansion, then you should at least tell them that you’ve gotten a job to become a cleaner in their mansion.” Comfort suggested.
“I know my mother very well. She won’t be in support of this. That’s why I have to secretly carry this out till he asks me to quit.” Gloria said
“And you think that Chris is ready to let you quit anytime soon?.” Comfort asked.
“Don’t worry about that. I will so frustrate and provoke him that he will be left with no choice but to let me quit. I’m going there just to make life miserable for him. This I promise him.” Gloria said.
While Hilary and Chris were driving back home, Hilary turned to Chris and asked,
“Do you like her?.” He asked out of nowhere.
“Like who?.” Chris asked Confused and curioused.
“Gloria of course.” Hilary said.
“Hahahaha. I don’t think so. I just enjoy toying with her. She behaves like a child. And it cracks me up a lot. She’s the only girl I’ve ever seen that tastes a food by eating half of it. The only girl that goes into a stranger’s room to make use of their restroom without their consent. It’s strange how she is weird and funny at thesame time.” Chris responded.
“Hmmmm. Chris you want me to be truthful with you?.” Hilary asked.
“Yeah. Go on.” Chris said.
“I think you are beginning to like that girl. And it’s not advisable to keep her close as you might come to realize someday how much you’ve fallen for her. And I’m sure you wouldn’t want to break her heart by giving her false hopes.” Hilary said.
“Come on man, she’s not my class or type she’s not even in my league. I’ve dated girls who are more better than her in different ways. So I can’t have feelings for her. It’s not even possible. Believe me man, you are just misinterpreting the whole situation.” Chris said.
“Okay o. I hope you are right though. Cause it’s pointless having feelings for a girl that’s from a poor home. I’m sure you know what the outcome will be. It will always end in premium tears and failed promises. I’ve been there before. And trust me, you won’t want to imagine how your family will come for her after kicking against it.” Hilary said.
“Hilary don’t you think you are unnecessarily being too serious and over dramatic about this?. Come on, for Christ sake, relax. What you fear, will never happen. I assure you that. I’m just going to stress her life a little and let her go.” Chris assured.
“Hmmmm. I hope it doesn’t go beyond that.” Hilary said.
“Sure. Trust me man, nothing of that nature will happen between us.” Chris assured.
