Love & Lies Episode 13

LOVE AND LIES

THIRTEEN

Kola was still sitting in his office when his friend, Barrister Nat walked in. Nat was his university friend and ever since they left university they had been two inseparable friends. Nat was a man in his late thirties. He had a large head he probably got when he was fat and often shaven clean. Since he dropped in weight, it seemed the largeness of his head had been the same. He was 5.4 feet tall and often in a three-piece suit that he felt often portrayed him as a lawyer. Apart from being a lawyer, Nat doubled as a pastor. He had been an assistant pastor in one of the leading Pentecostal churches in Lagos.

He flopped into Kola’s chair tiredly after they had exchanged greetings, giving a pat to his suit consciously. He had a smile playing through his lips, broading the face of his large head.
“It has been a while.” Kola intoned.
“Yea” Nat guttural voice rang out.”I didn’t get what you were saying on phone.” Nat put in as he sat. “I hope all is well Kola.”
“I am not, Nat. I need a divorce. I am simply tired of my marriage.” Kola spoke. He stood up and leaned against the table staring Nat in the face. He carried a look that told Nat a lot. He wanted a new experience. He was probably tired of moving on.

“Why?” Nat asked with a glow of surprise flickering in his eyes. “You married a great woman as far as I am concerned.”
“A great woman indeed!” Kola hissed. ” She is not that good person you think. She has a lot of secrets I probably need to run away from.”
“Really? And how many have you found out?”
“See Nat it is not everything a soldier sees in the war front he tells in his story. He probably just needs to thank his creator and move on.”
“You are just probably tired of the babies that ain’t coming. I think.”
“May be Nat.” Kola shook his head. “Am I not old enough to be a dad? Apart from that she is just terrible!”
“See no marriage is perfect. It is about time you understood that. I believe the real definition of marriage is when both the couple accept the imperfections of each other. I think this is when the true joy of marriage is experienced. It is not when you are waiting for it to be perfect. But when you simply accept the imperfections with love.”
“Thank you Nat. I just remembered you are also a pastor. I wonder how you manage to be a pastor and a lawyer at the same time.”
“Is there anything wrong with that?” Nat asked with a grimace of inquiry.
“No, it is just like trying to be righteous and a sinner at the same time. Pastors want to be righteous so that they will be good examples to their congregation while lawyers don’t care being liars.”

Nat burst into a fresh pearl of laughter. Kola sneered as he watched him laugh.
“You are funny Kola.” Nat said inbetween the shrieks of his laugh.
“That is just the truth. But seriously Nat I want a divorce. ”
“Does she also want a divorce?” Nat asked after he had shoved his laugh.
“She doesn’t. She pretends she still loves me while I know she is not. ”
“It will be hard to get a divorce if she is not ready.”

Kola sighed and dropped into his seat. He sat back and wheeled his chair in thought.
“What should I do Nat? I just don’t want her again.”
“Discuss it with her. But if I may ask Kola, is there anything you aren’t telling me? I don’t advise couple to have a divorce no matter what.”
“I am just tired.” Kola said and shook his head. He was probably tired of trying to explain or probably didn’t want to. Nat sighed. As far as he was concerned he believed Nkiru had been a good woman. He had met and related with her a couple of times. It was just fate of child birth that hadn’t smiled on her.

Lara came to Kola’s office and didn’t bother telling the Secretary she wanted to see him. She walked to the door like it was prearranged or she was probably a regular visitor and didn’t really need to follow the protocols. She came to the door and gave it some soft knocks. Kola’s guttural voice responded from within. She stepped in dressed in a gown tightly glued to her body. It gave out the guitar shape of her body and her bum tightly structured in it. Her face was patiently made. A layer of powder washed up her face with red glowing lips. Her eyes brows also had thick eyelids neatly drawn.

” Come in.”
Lara stepped in and the two young men suddenly fixed their gaze on her. She smiled as Kola’s face broke into a seductive smile.
“Wow Lara. I have been expecting you.” Kola’s voice rang out. He threw a look at Nat who was busy examining Lara.
“Nat, meet Lara.” He told Nat before he turned to Lara. “Meet my old friend Nat. He is a lawyer and also doubled as a pastor.”
“Pleasure to meet you” Lara held out a hand and they both shook hands.
“Lara is a final year student of psychology from the University of Lagos.” Kola said turning to Nat.
“So how does it seem being a pastor and a lawyer at the same time.” Lara asked smiling at Nat.
“That’s what everyone keeps asking.” Kola cut in with a wry smile.
“Well we give God all the glory.” Nat retorted with a gap-toothed laugh.

“How come it took you all day Lara?” Kola asked after he had taken his seat.
“The Uber man is really not a good driver. I can’t really say why he was not interested in driving fast. He patiently took his time.” Lara said.
“That’s okay.” Kola concluded..
“I need to leave you both. I have other things to attend to in office.” Nat said and stood up. He patted his blazers to adjust it and also pulled his belt to hold his trousers up.
“I am grateful Nat.” Kola held out a hand and they shook.
“Like I said discuss with her and let me know the outcome.” Nat said inbetween breaths.
“Alright.” Kola said and watched Nat walk away. He creaked the door open and shut it behind him. His footsteps could be heard capering down before they later died off.

Kola stood up and walked closer to Lara who held a frown as if something was bothering her. Kola pulled her closer and began to kiss her. She fought him away disinterestedly.

“I will be a graduate in few months Kola. What is really our plan here?” Lara asked with a fake frown.
“I am planning a divorce. That’s why I invited Nat over. He is a lawyer. So be patient.”
“Hope it won’t take long?
“It won’t. I promise. You heard Nat say I should discuss the divorce plan with her.”
“Will she agree?”
“She has no choice. I have made up my mind I want to settle with you even if she agrees to not.”

Lara smiled happily. Kola began to kiss her again. She fondled with her breasts and her bums. She hummed softly.

“What about my son?” Kola asked as he unglued his lips from hers.
“He is fine. The grandma told me she needed money to pay for his class party this term. And I hope you won’t forget his birthday next month.”
“How will I forget my son’s birthday when i am not crazy.” Kola cursed laughing before he held Lara tight again. They began to kiss and fondle again and everywhere was filled with hums, snorting and soft breaths. They began to undress themselves until a thought told Kola the door was not locked. He jerked off hurriedly from her and clicked the door shut, his eyes rolling mechanically with a flicker of lust in them.
