(LOVE AND DECEPTION)
Belinda quickly got up from his body. With her head bowed, she adjusted her shirt and skirt.
Benjamin helped her to pick her files that was scattered all over the floor.
“Beatrice what was the meaning of what you did?.” Benjamin asked handing the files to Belinda.
“Thank you.” Belinda said collecting the files from him.
“Why were you harassing my job applicant?. I thought you were learned enough to know not to mix personal feelings with business?. What you did is wrong in all ramifications. And I would like you to apologise to her now.” Benjamin instructed.
“What?.” Beatrice asked in surprise not believing her ears.
“You heard me right. Or would you prefer I put a call across to your dad, telling him of how you showed up in our company and harassed one of our job applicants?.” Benjamin asked bringing out his phone.
“Come on Benjamin, it hasn’t gotten to that.” Beatrice said grabbing his hand with a smile.
“Then do the needful.” Benjamin said.
“Okay. Fine. I will apologize.” Beatrice said.
“Good. Now make it quick we have an interview to attend.” Benjamin said checking his wrist watch.
“I’m sorry for pushing you earlier.” Beatrice reluctantly apologized to Belinda who smirked at her in an annoying way.
“Apology accepted.” Belinda said rolling her eyes at her.
“Alright then, if you would excuse us, we have an interview to attend.” Benjamin said leading the way while Belinda followed him from behind.
“Arrrrgh!.” Beatrice shouted in anger while clenching her fist.
After which, she angrily walked away.
Entering into her car, she brought out her phone and dialed Felix’s number.
“Hey sis. What’s up?.” Felix asked as soon as he picked her call.
“When are you planning to return home?.” Beatrice asked.
“I don’t know yet. Why are you suddenly interested in that? Or, do you miss me that much?.” Felix teased.
“Look. I don’t have time for your jokes. So listen and listen very carefully. Belinda is currently attending an interview at Gideon’s company. And from the look of things, I think Benjamin won’t hesitate to give her the job. And I’m sure you know what that means. don’t you?.” Beatrice asked.
“I see…so fate has finally brought them together again. But why are you getting all worked up about it? We tried everything possible to separate them seven years ago. I even betrayed my friend. But at the end, she didn’t end up with me. Instead, she friend zoned me. I will advise you just let go and accept the fact that those two will continue coming back together no matter how much you try to separate them.” Felix said.
“You see your problem? You easily give up on things. Anyways, as for me, I’m not giving up anytime soon. And just Incase you might have forgotten, then let me remind you that, letting them be together, will only expose our lies 7 years ago. You wouldn’t want Benjamin to find out that you connived with me seven years ago to sow a seed of hatred in them.” Beatrice said.
“Hmmmmmm. I will be coming back in three days time.” Felix said.
“Good! Now you are talking.” Beatrice said with a smile.
Inside the waiting room, Belinda sat with other applicants and waited for her turn to be interviewed.
She was the last to be interviewed. And when it got to her turn, she went into Benjamin’s office.
“Do have a seat.” Benjamin said pointing out a seat for her.
“Thank you sir.” Belinda responded sitting down.
“Your documents please.” Benjamin said stretching forth his hand to Belinda who handed her file to him.
“So how have you been?.” Benjamin asked going through her documents.
“I’ve been good.” Belinda responded.
“Okay then, let’s get to the interview.” Benjamin said closing the files. “So, first of all, I would like us to resolve our personal issues. At least we need to clear our minds so we can both be comfortable while working with each other. Cause I wouldn’t want my personal assistant to bear grudges against me. And also, I wouldn’t want you to start thinking that you are overworking simply because I have hatred or unresolved issues with you.” Benjamin said.
“Okay.” Belinda agreed.
“Alright. My first question is this, why didn’t you show up at my father’s birthday party seven years ago? I practically waited all night for you.” Benjamin said.
“There he goes again trying so hard to play the pretence card.” Belinda said in her heart smirking at him.
“I’m waiting for your answer miss. Belinda Kennedy.” Benjamin said relaxing on his chair.
“I was present at the birthday party Benjamin. And you weren’t waiting for me. You were so busy with your girlfriend at the balcony that you didn’t notice my presence.” Belinda finally opened up.
“What girlfriend are you talking about?.” Benjamin asked curioused.
“Beatrice of course. I saw you both embracing and kissing each other and you still want to deny it?.” Belinda asked.
“I’m so sorry that you had to watch that confusing scene. I doubt if you would believe me but I just have to tell you exactly what happened that day. I was waiting impatiently for you when Beatrice approached me threatening to end her life. Her words sounded like she was going through a lot and she needed someone to talk to. So I led her to the balcony where she started narrating heart touching stories that moved me to console her by embracing her. And all of a sudden, I found her lips against mine. I actually pulled away in curiosity and confusion. And when I questioned her on why she did what she did, she said she was feeling dizzy and all that. And before I knew it, she had already fainted before me. I honestly wish there was someone else who could defend me in this. What you saw was not really what you thought it was.” Benjamin said.
“This is serious. And you expect me to believe that? Benjamin I practically saw it with my two eyes.” Belinda said thinking that Benjamin was telling her lies.
“Okay. Was I holding her while she kissed me? Of course not. My hands were down because I wasn’t expecting such and I was in shock trying to figure out what exactly was going on.” Benjamin said with sincerity in his eyes.
“Hmmmm. So how do you explain the fact that Felix was waiting for me at the entrance like he already knew that I was coming?.” Belinda asked curioused.
“I don’t actually know about that cause I didn’t ask him to wait for you. I was practically waiting for you before Beatrice made me leave.” Benjamin said.
“Okay. So what about the part where it was Felix who asked you to invite me to the party?.” Belinda asked.
“Listen. Felix approached me in school and asked me if I liked you of which I told him yes. That I like you more than a friend. So he now suggested that I invited you over for the birthday party so I can let you know how I feel about you. I bought the idea and invited you for the party. I had crammed a lot of things to say to you that night. I honestly wanted to let you know how I felt about you at that day.” Benjamin said.
The whole thing sounded so confusing to Belinda who started wondering who amongst the two friends were actually telling the truth.
At madam Grace’s apartment, Beatrice dashed into the sitting room throwing her bag to the sofa beside her as she put her head in her palms.
“Beatrice? What is it? Why are you here instead of being in the company?.” Her mother asked sitting next to her.
“Mom…it’s Belinda. She showed up today in Gideon’s company. She applied for a job there. And when I saw her, I threatened and confronted her. But guess what mom, Benjamin took her side instead. He made me apologize to her instead.” Beatrice said.
“What? He made you do what?.” Her mother asked.
“You heard me mom. I can’t believe those two are back together again. And from the looks of things, it seems like Benjamin still has feelings for her. He has never looked at me the way he looked at Belinda. I’m scared mom. What if they finally end up in a relationship?.” Beatrice asked with tears rolling down her cheeks.
“Relax my child. That won’t happen when you have me by your side.” She said patting her back.
