“Why are you asking?.” Nkechi asked.
“Just tell me! And don’t question me.” He said unsettled.
“Me I don’t know oo how are you expecting me to know where he lives when is not like am working or living with him .” She answered nonchalantly knowing that she just lied. You better leave her and let her go to anywhere she likes.
She sat on the bed looking at her husband roaming about as if regretting telling Adebimpe to pack out. She thought for a while on what to tell him in other to make him calm. She thought of something that could divert his attention from Adebimpe.
“My husband.” She called in a melting sweet voice. Rebecca oya leave this room right now!.” She shouted at her daughter.
“What is it? You know I’m really upset right now Nkechi.”
“Don’t worry, I can help you to get the man’s address.” She said fake smiling as he look at her.
“But you just said you don’t know his address so how will you now get it when you don’t know it?.” He asked.
“Just calm down, I say calm down first. You know it’s weakness of a target that can be use to bring down is superior.”
“I don’t understand.” He said.
“I mean it’s Adebimpe , you know she’s definitely Mr Charles weakness because I know he will definitely don’t want her to be in danger….”
“maybe Sha.” He answered.
“So, I will go through her to get the address of her boss as simple as that .” She said excitedly.
“But, will she want to see you or perhaps how do we even know where she is.” He asked.
“Don’t worry, you can leave that for me. Or have you forgotten that I and Adebimpe are in good term, like we are friends na!”
“Hmmm (looking at her) I hope it’s not what I am thinking with you and the man.” He asked.
“What are you thinking?? Are you not the one I’m trying to help here, if you don’t trust me, then let me stay on my own and don’t indulge me in anything pertaining her or the man at all.” She answered angrily.
“I only assumed and it’s not like you’re having anything doing with the said ma. So you shouldn’t be angry na!.” He said trying to make her happy.
“You shouldn’t try that nonsense with me! I don’t like it at all “. She said moving away from him.
“And I have said sorry or what do you want me to say again?.”
ADEBIMPE
I believe leaving the house is my best wishes and I’m glad I was able to pull through with what happened. Although, I didn’t know where I will be heading to but I’m very optimistic that I will eventually land somewhere. My father house is no go area for me but because of my daughter who wouldn’t stop begging me to rather go to her grandfather house instead of wandering around. I thought of calling Mr Charles, bit will I carry my own burden to someone else, just because of the type of man and family I indulge myself into. Moreover I didn’t really want to open up to him about my crisis in the house anytime he asked me while I was in the hospital. I’m a very conservative human. I like doing my things and facing my challenges without indulging second or third parties. I had to yield to my daughter pleading and summoned up to tell my father what as actually been happening to me in Josiah territory for the third time. My father might be a very strict man who respect the value and solidarity of marriage, but he will never joke or take things with levity when it comes with life and de ath. Approaching my father’s compound my heartbeat started p******g faster not trying to imagine what might happen. We alighted and carry our bags down. As if my father had been expecting me, he came outside in most of his usual way of dressing, putting on white singlet and tying of wrapper around his waist like someone from the East .
“Good afternoon grandpa.” Adesewa greeted running over to him.
“My daughter! My bigi bigi daughter, you’re welcome. How are you doing my dear?.” He embraced her with so much joy mostly because he hasn’t seen him for a while.
“I am fine grandpa and it’s good to see you again.” She answered happily.
He took us inside without wasting time before monitoring neighborhood start wondering what brought me back with my luggage’s.
“Adebimpe! Adebimpe!! What is happening? .” He asked going to lock his door.
I broke down in tears on my knees and started explaining things to him , those that I have been hidden from him and the ones I didn’t. At first he didn’t want us to say it in the presence of my daughter but I objected that she’s also aware of everything as she’s no more a kid. He signed down heavily shaking his head and took me up from the floor.
“Just stand up first. So you have been enduring all the issue in that house without letting me know and Josiah has never for once said any of such. I can’t believe this! Why will he stop having intimacy with you when he knows, you should be the one needing it mostly. You know what, just stay here quietly without letting him know.
“What if he comes here father?.” I asked.
“I don’t think he will come because I have voiced out to him that you dare not to come over to my house. I do not tolerate divorce or anything that can break a home but maltreating my daughter indifferently is what I won’t take!. Has he forgotten how he begged me before having you as a wife? He shall see what I will do to him. My dear daughter (facing Adesewa) when will you return to school?.”
“Anytime grandpa.” She answered.
“How about class and lecture?.” He asked.
“I have told my friend to help me out with attendance and some other things. I will go back once mother is settled and fully recovered.”
“Kai! Omó dàdà ní e (you’re a good child) just see how they turn your mother into, all because of wickedness. And your mother resist letting me know about her illness. What if something bad had actually happened to her during the process of what happened to her, how did she think I will be feeling? Just look at her body. Infact tomorrow you must take me to that good Samaritan that helped you.” He said.
The idea of going to see me Charles doesn’t go well with me as it would really proved what just happened to me and I don’t want it.
“Baami (my father) é mà shé yónú (don’t worry) I have thanked him enough and going back to it won’t be nice at all.” I said trying to change his mind but it seems it didn’t work out as he insist to go see Mr Charles. I had to eventually give up and accepted to take him there whenever he wants.
“I will go to mama ishola alagbo (herbs seller) to give me some medicine that can help cure all this things around your body.”
“Okay father, thank you very much.” I said.
“What are you thanking me for? It’s what I should do as a father and moreover you are my only joy, my only happiness. If your mother had been alive do you think she would have even allowed you married that fool. I took him as a godson and he decided to pay me back for bad. He shouldn’t even dare to come here because I might chop his leg into pieces.” He said and display and he would do it.
Adesewa laughed at his demonstration and I was forced to laugh also seeing my old man trying to make me happy while a man I called my husband preferred to always make me sad.
Next Day.
It’s noon and I just woke up from my nap when my daughter came inside to inform me that someone is at the door knocking. I stood up immediately cleaning my eyes from the drones of sleep I had. I yawned, stretching my body as if I just had a peaceful sleep for the first time in my life. I wanted to open the door immediately but something stopped me as I decided to check who it’s first before opening. I pull the Cotton a little bit aside and peeped to check who it’s. I dropped it immediately realizing the familiar person in shocked.
“Mother, who is the person tell…”
“Shiiiiiii.” I shushed her tiptoeing towards her.
“Its your father.” I answered miming at her.
TBC.
