CHAPTER 4
ADEBIMPE
I believe whatever situation that happens to anybody it’s by the will of God except if it is the work of the wicked people. It’s not like I love being vi0lent but I can’t just sit and watched being taken for granted. Getting married to Josiah was never my wished because I didn’t love him an inch, I had to obey my father for his happiness sake, I didn’t know what Josiah gave to him or how closely they were for him to have manipulated me to get married to him. I was 26 years then and he was 41 years so you can imagine how long I have been enduring under him. For the past 17 years I have been looking unto God for a child and yet I didn’t feeble nor file for a divorce because I’m still believing in God, that one day he will surely remember me. My adopted daughter Adesewa has been my hope and joy that I’m really proud about to say, that is why I don’t joke with her in anyway. My husband first wife faridah doesn’t seems to understand how to relate with me, she felt I’m a nagging type but she doesn’t know it was her attitude that do pushed me to react negatively towards her.
On Monday morning after Adesewa had stayed back home for a week with the hope that I will get her school fees completed money from my husband that he didn’t volunteer to help at all. I decided to go see my father who gave me the money without listening to what Josiah has been doing to me. So, I get to her school and paid for the school fees and left for my daily work at Mile 2 where I work as a cook and janitor for a man whose family lives abroad. I have been working for Mr Charles for the past 5 years now, although my working hours is always based on when I finished cooking. At times I don’t go doing the weekend if he told me not to come, he is a worker at CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA (CBN) so he hardly have time to cook for himself.
Knock..knock.
“Is that you Mama sewa?.” He asked.
“Yes sir. Good morning.” I answered at the door entrance.
“Come inside, the door is opened. I have been waiting for you since, I hope all is well?.” He asked dropping the coffee he is drinking on the small table beside the chair.
“All is well sir, it’s just that the traffic was much.” I dropped my bag on the dining and headed to the kitchen. Your soup is still remaining.”
“Yes it’s .” he laughed. I traveled two days ago and returned yesterday. I don’t even know if is still okay.”
“It is still okay, should I make semovita with it for you?.” I asked.
“Don’t worry, I think another soup will be better, you can pour it away or take it home if you want.”
“Okay sir.” I answered.
“So, how is your daughter health now.?.”
I remembered I lied to him last week that my daughter is not feeling well so as to rally round to get her school fees.
“She is now fine sir.”
“That’s good. “
“I hope you’re hearing from your family?.” I asked.
“yeah…yeah, I do thanks.” He answered abruptly like someone not really interested in answering about it.
I washed the dishes, took out the wastebasket outside, cleaned the dining table and every other places. When I was done with everything, I asked him what he wanted me to cook, he gave me 25,000 to get ingredients for Groundnut soup. I became speechless because I knew the amount he gave me is much. He is a nice man quite alright, but I have never for once asked him for help for anything, just because it’s not my doings, he doesn’t even know about my family except my daughter who I only talk about.
“This is too much sir, 15,000 will be okay.” I said smiling at him and counted out 10,000.
“You can keep the remaining change, just go and come back on time because I’m even famished.” He answered laughing.
“Thank you so much sir, may God continue to bless you and your household.”
He grinned at my prayer and said I shouldn’t keep myself waiting. I left immediately thanking God, because I have been aiming to gather more money for Adesewa jamb form once is out. Her waec will be starting in two months time and thankfully her waec money as been sorted out.
💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘💘
“My husband, I want to ask you something.” Nkechi said laying beside her husband.
“And what is it?.” He asked.
“It is about your first wife.”
And what about her?.”
“Can’t you send her away.” She asked camly looking out for his reaction and she was surprised he didn’t react as she thought.
“Did she trouble you?.” He asked solemnly.
“No oooo she didn’t ooo I’m just asking you know, I don’t like the way she behaves at times with Mama sewa, as if she’s the cause of her problem.”
“Nkechi! Nkechi!! How many times did I call you?.” He asked.
“2 times my husband.”
“Better, so mind your business and leave them alone and yes, before I forgot. What were you discussing with mama sewa when I came back?.” He asked as she laughed.
“Oh’ it is nothing oo my husband, we were just having normal talk about life.”
“About life? Is the world coming to an end?.” He asked with all seriousness.
“Hehehehehe😂papa Chinedu ooo you’re funny. I think mama sewa is not a bad person like mama Rihannat Sha because she was really kind today.”
“Kind as how?.” He asked and she quickly change the topic.
“Dim oma (My good husband) Usom Usom (my sweetie sweetie) Nkem ooo (my own) chai…”
Josiah couldn’t hide his feelings as he blushes knowing vividly well that he is just being praised by her.
“What is it? Because once you start saying all these sweet words like this, is only God that knows what we come out next.” He asked beaming at her.
“You know I have always loved you.”
.
“I know.” He answered.
“Your daughter needs money for Textbook in school.” She said and his contenance suddenly changed.
“Nbanu! (No!) Nkechi this is what I don’t like, have I not giving you money for it?.”
“No you haven’t ooo it was her cultural day money you gave me na!.” She answered.
“You sure?.”
“Yes na!.” She answered immediately.
“Ehn, no problem. Remind me tomorrow morning before I leave and how much is it?.”
“10,000 naira.”
“You say watin? Ten thousand for books , abeg how much I con pay for school fees If book con be ten thousand? The amount I paid last term is not upto this na.”He asked in shocked looking at her.
Nkechi didn’t answer as she looks sad looking away, he turned her face to him and told her not to be upset that he would give her the money. She brightened up and hugged him.
“But, make sure nobody knows about it ooo you know it’s because I genuinely love you that is why I’m doing all these.”
“I know Oma and that is one reason I don’t want to have any issue or fight with both of them. They think I’m the one sending Rebecca to school not knowing that it’s you.” She said laughing.
“Better ooo because I found no interest in sending any girl to school that will end up being a housewife. It’s better I spend on the boys that will bring me great Fortune.”
“What did you mean? Are you saying my daughters are not useful or what?.
“You have started, I’m not saying that okay. Abeg make we sleep I….”
Gba gba gba gba!!!!!!
“Who is that at this late hour again ohhhh.” He muttered angrily.
“mijina (My husband) mijjna ina son magana da kai don Allah mijina(Please come I want to tell you something) mijina! Zo ki kwanta a dakina yau da daddare please! (Come and sleep in my room tonight please).” Faridah said calmly at the door.
Josiah looked at Nkechi whose face is frowned.
“Should I go?.” He asked looking at her.
“Agala oo (don’t go oo) I won’t like it at all.” She said silently.
“Let sleep then, when she gets tired at the door she will go back.” He answered laying back with her and covered his ears with pillow.
