UNMARRIED AT THIRTY
EP 22
Director Samson was disappointed upon hearing the new from Toluwani but he didn’t take it too hard. “Eh you can still have the gifts, and make sure you invite me to your wedding. I really liked you oh but your happiness matters the most” he told her.
Jessica was drowning herself with her tears in the office when Toluwani walked in. She sat at the corner of her office like an abandoned scared child crying profusely, she gripped at her newly braided hair like a maniac, droplets of tears dropped down to the floor torrentially. “jesus!! Jessy, what’s the matter” Toluwani screamed with perplexed face. She had never seen Jessica who was ever cheerful with such beautiful and graceful demeanor so desolate and shattered. Her mind wandered between thousands of thoughts, what could be so wrong that the most beautiful girl in the world lost control of her emotions.
“Talk to me dear, what’s the matter” Jessica once angelic voice had turned coarse like a charred bone crunch of dying soul. Following Toluwani’s consolation she stuttered with every single words she uttered.
“Ma, I’m doomed. I have lost everything i have worked for over the years.” She explained how her boyfriend whom she had trusted for over two years had asconded with her seven million naira and travelled abroad with another woman. Jessica was the most beautiful girl you can think of, she was young and doing well for herself. Because of her extreme beauty, it attracted lots of men towards her ranging from CEO’s to directors , bankers and all sorts of people but unfortunately most of this men only wanted to taste how it d’ feel like to undress a girl of such beauty. She had ugly experiences with men as they only look at her body instead of love. According to most of, beautiful girls are not trustworthy because too many men want them, this wrong prejudiced judgement had put Jessica in a terrific situation but nobody knew the pains she was going through.
Even Toluwani at a point envied her beauty and thought she definitely would know nothing about men and relationship troubles.
Jessica had saved seven million naira, she was thinking of getting a plot of land somewhere affordable. Paul, Jessica’s boyfriend was the only man who had shown her a certain level of seriousness, this made her trusted him with all her heart. He worked in the bank as manager, it was Paul who introduced Jessica to a certain type of fixed deposit account where you get a 50% return on investment after six months. He was the one who assisted in opening and filling in the necessary informations.
He had some weeks prior to the day Jessica made the transition proposed marriage to her, Jessica ecstatically accepted his proposal, she wasn’t too worried that Paul knew about her money. Well, that turns out to be the worst mistake ever. Paul had falsified every detail in the fixed deposit account and had diverted the money into his personal account without the knowledge of Jessica. Paul had withdrew the entire money and travelled abroad with another woman.
For over two weeks, Jessica had incessantly called Paul on the phone more than a million times without connecting. His phone was always switched off, when Jessica reached out to the bank, she got the shocker of her life. “Ah manager Paul travelled to UK last week with his wife to be o. He told us you’re his sister o” one of the teller in the bank said after hearing Jessica’s side of the story. “Fear men o” another added.
“Ma as I speak to you, my rent of 600k has expired” Jessica cried her eyeballs out. Toluwani tried her best to consoled her. She calmed down and ate some fruits, it was her first meal for two days. Toluwani had transferred 800k to her account to settle her house issue first. “I’m not dashing you the money, you pay back 500k when you’re better, 300k is my goodwill assistance to you” Toluwani told her. Jessica thanked her a thousand times.
Yinka was happy Toluwani’s parents finally gave their blessings. The day for the wedding was fixed,

When it comes to who’s trustworthy or pretending, it’s not reserved to a particular group of people. Just as people who are a little uglyy have their difficulties, people who are extremely beautiful go through so much troubles too especially with men and relationship. Accept your life, try to improve it and stop the comparison. Some people may be at the lower class but they will never hurt your heart but then this is not particular to all Lower class people.
Why in a relationship, don’t do things out of desperation. It’s fine to be alone too
