“Wahala pro max!.” Bimpe muttered and walked back to her room leaving her to face them herself.
Rihannat opened the door and Nkechi dragged her out angrily and started beating her cursing her and her mother.
“My mother will soon come and I will report you to her.” Rihannat said crying.
“Na all of you I go beat together! Infact na today I go break your mama into pieces. E be like say una don forget how I lock una mama inside room the other day wey I beat her like cr@ze person wey her eyes swell abi? (Have you forgotten how I beated your mother to sulphur by giving her swollen eyes).” Nkechi said in annoyance.
“Ehn! is that not my daughter?.” Faridah looked from afar and walked up to meet Nkechi.
She threw her bag away and intervened for her daughter without listening to what occurred.
“leave my daughter alone! Leave her alone!! Foo lish woman, you want to eliminate my daughter before her time taba! kar ka kashe min ita (Never, don’t ki ll her for me) you think I will watch you dealing with my child without retaliating.” Faridah said pulling her daughter away.
“E be like say you never see cr@ze before abi? If not that I don’t want my husband to see me exchanging words with riffraff like you, I would have beaten you to comma that when he comes it’s your corpse he will meet. But because I want to be a good wife to him , let me just perform little of my madness to you .”
“I know already that you have bewitched my husband, for him not to always believe me his first wife. Very soon all of you will leave this house for me and my children.” Faridah said aggressively.
Nkechi started to laugh and told her she’s only dreaming as she will be the one to leave the house for her.
“I said don’t worry, just don’t worry. We shall see who will laugh last, you will tell me if we are mate!
“Abegii mate my foot! I don tell you say if not for my husband, you for don land for hospital. Let me tell you and your children something, if any of you try your stupidity on any of my children again, I believe it’s that day this house will fall “. Nkechi said banging her leg on the ground to show them she meant what she said.
“you can not do us anything, get out from this place!.” Faridah said and hissed at her going inside with her children.
“You people should just try me and see if I won’t break your head one day.” .
FARIDAH ROOM
“What is wrong with you Rihannat, what transpired between you and that witch?.” She asked and Aminat explained to her how Rihannat carried Ogechi to the hen house. You shouldn’t have done that now! What if something bad as happened to the child, what would you have allowed me to say. Please, you children shouldn’t interfere with my issue with any of them. Just leave them for me .”
“But uwa,(mother) why is father not always supporting you, and moreover he said he doesn’t want to send us that is female to school because is waste of money whereas Mama Chinedu daughter Rachel do go to school. And I’m even older than her, why will Abba (father) do such? Me I can’t take it ooo and I will continue to punish her children.” Rihannat said sadly.
“Kai! Rihannat, I have always told you that your father love for Nkechi and her children is nothing to write home about, just imagine the sacrifice I made for him all those years not knowing he would eventually marry more wife. I’m very sure that Nkechi is using spell on your father and that’s why I’m finding all means to break that spell. Did you think Ogechi that is also going to school is by your father sponsored? No! He doesn’t pay for her school fees or anything “ She answered.
“But wait ooo uwa, is father not a Christian?.”
“Of course, he is.” She answered.
“Then, why did you marry him when you’re a Muslim?.” She asked.
“You have always been asking me This question Rihannat, but I want you to know that in life where there’s love ehn, there’s never a protocol that can be layed down to change the mindset of a lover. I got married to your father because I loved him even though my father didn’t accept it.”
“Now I see the reason why grandfather doesn’t come here except grandmother, but now that she’s late (de ad) your father should have accepted it and probably forgive you na.” Rihannat said.
“my dear, forgiveness is not just an outer speech because it will take a deep down decision from the heart before forgiven someone. Your grandfather is a very religious person and he despise relating with other religion not to now talk of his children getting married to one. I have begged and begged and still he didn’t want to forgive me. “
“Then, let leave father house and stay somewhere else.” Aminat said.
“Ehn! You want me to leave my husband house Aminat? Taba! (Never) he got married to me and we will leave with each other till eternity.” She answered.
“Is it until those two women ki lled you with beating abi?.” Rihannat said scornfully.
“What do you mean ? They can’t do me or any of my children anything, they met me here and so they shall leave for me.”
“I don’t even know the existence of that woman in this house.”
“Which woman? .” Faridah asked.
“That Yoruba woman na!.” she answered.
“Oh! You mean that Mace bakarariya (barren woman) someone that should be at a corner crying everyday instead of taking someone else child to nurture.” She said laughing with her children. Who knows if is Allah that’s dealing with her. She has never see anything, by the time she couldn’t take the suffering anymore she will pack and go with the adopted daughter.”
“When she should have adopted boy, she na took girl that father doesn’t send to school.” Aminat said.
“That is her own cup of tea, it’s the girl I pitied most.” Faridah answered selecting the cloth she bought for her girls. At least I’m happy that I have a son and he is now in university, I know that very soon he will bring his yanrinya (girl) home to marry.
She packed the cloth on her leg and whispered to both girls.
“mother, don’t worry! Let just keep it a secret.” Rihannat said jumping up excitedly. I’m 19 years old na! Infact don’t let me say anything now.”
Around 10 pm Josiah returned home looking stressful and he was surprised entering his house seeing Nkechi and Adebimpe in a good mood having conversations. He clears his throat to make awareness of his entering.
“My husband! (Nkechi ran to greet him) you’re welcome, how was your day? I have prepared some….”
“Keep quiet and carry my bag inside.” He said to her as she hurried inside with his bag. He was expecting Adebimpe to greet him but she sat down ignoring his presence.
“Bimpe! .”
No response
“Bimpe! Didn’t you see me?.” He asked standing at the dining table.
“Because you are blind abi? Oju lo n dun e (is your eyes that is paining you) .” She answered looking away.
“Emi? (Me) émí mà ní (it’s me oo).”
“And who are you?.” She asked hissing at him. Adesewa get up , let go inside. Tomorrow again you will stay at home.”
“Oh’ now I understand you, is it because of her school fees?.” He asked.
“Before nko?.” She answered.
“Did I tell you to send her to school?.” He asked.
“Ejó é kó (it’s not your fault) .” She said and entered her room.
