…….When she heard her daughter sniff her nose, she knew all was not well and she returned the hug tapping her gently on the back “All will be fine okay” said her mother

That day Sammy’s mom didn’t ask her daughter to do any house chores, she just told her to go in and relax cause she looked stressed and Sammy obeyed

After they had dinner, Sammy mom’s called her into her room and she went “How was your exam “She asked

“It was fine mama” Sammy responded
“Okay, today I saw you in a state I have never seen you before and I must say I am worried, what is going on with you is there anything you would like to tell me “ her mother asked taking her hands

“Em it is nothing mom, I guess I have missed you so much that’s why, I’m sorry if I got you worried, “Sammy said bowing her head
She couldn’t bring herself to tell her mother what she was going through

“My mother will be so disappointed in me, what about my siblings who looked up to me, no I can’t tell her,” Sammy said to herself as tears swelled up her eyes and she quickly wiped them off when her mom looked elsewhere

“Are you sure or is anyone harassing you, you can talk to me I’m your mother and we will scale through together “ her mom said patting her cheeks

“I’m fine Mom if I have any issues I will come to you, “Sammy said letting out a faint smile

Soon the holiday was over and they all went back to school, it was Patrick and Sammy’s final year in school and they were super excited

All these years Patrick has maintained his grade as the number 1 best student and he hoped to keep it so till he graduated

Sammy on the other hand has not been active in school due to her lifestyle although her results were above average since she paid handsomely for it

Catherine also was super excited when she saw her result when she resumed from being the 3rd best in her class to number 1 all thanks to Patrick who constantly guided her through her difficult courses

“Hey sweet talker what’s up with you” Catherine said when Patrick picked up her call

“I’m good pretty, this one you smiling over the phone have we won a jackpot, “ Patrick said eager to know what was going on

“Guess what,” she said
“Ha! Dear you know I’m worst at guessing, please just tell me, I promise you a cup of ice cream, “ Patrick said winking over the phone

“Okay fine, I just checked my result and I made it to number one,” Catherine said screaming over the phone excitedly

“Oh wow! That’s great! I’m so happy for you, I told you, your hard work and resilience were going to pay off “ Patrick said with a smile

“And I would not have done it without your help, thank you so much !” Said Catherine

“You welcome darling, this calls for celebration, I’m coming to pick you up let’s go pop some champagne, “ Patrick said and Catherine agreed to smile happily

Sammy turned a new leave, she started attending classes and being more focused she promised to make the most of her remaining time in school in a more profiting way

But all these didn’t sit well with Jesse they were the big girls on campus and Sammy couldn’t just back out like that without giving her any reasonable reason

“What has come over you ?” Jesse yelled at her
“Chief has been calling you and you have refused to pick up or return his call, is this how you intend to pay him back for all he has done for you” she said angrily

“I don’t understand, I’m no longer interested so everybody should leave me alone since you are so concerned about him why not date him yourself, “Sammy said rolling her eyes

This caused a heated argument between them and Jesse angrily packed some of her stuff and left Sammy tried stopping but she refused

Unknown to Sammy Jesse went to meet Chief in place of her since he offered to give her 5 million nairas for the weekend and out of greed she went

It’s been two weeks and Sammy hasn’t heard from her friend Jesse, she called and tested severally but she never answered

One faithful morning on her way to school just by the gate students were gathered and she overheard someone say “Look at her they just ended this beautiful girl’s life,” the student said shaking his head in pity

Out of curiosity Sammy moved closer to the scene and stretched her head forward to look at the corps lol and behold it was Jesse her vital parts had been removed and she lay lifeless on the floor

Immediately Sammy’s eyes behold her friend she passed out and was rushed to a new hospital where the doctors said she needed a blood transfusion since she had lost some blood as a result of the fall

Catherine and Patrick were called and they quickly rushed to the hospital, Patrick informed the doctor about her health condition and he decided to run another test which showed a negative

Patrick was confused at first he didn’t believe it until they took her blood sample to another lab and it was confirmed negative, he was so happy that at last Sammy was not infected

While on the hospital bed, the doctor broke the news to her that she was HIV Negative Sammy didn’t know how to react all she did was cry and thank God for sparing her life and giving her a second chance

“What happened to Jesse and who did that to her “ was a question no one could answer

Soon the long-awaited day was here and Patrick was dressed in a navy blue suit “I’m super proud of you” Catherine said adjusting his tie as she helped him his suit jacket and they left for his convocation

It was obvious Catherine and Patrick were already an item and they were just inseparable “Catherine locked hands with Patrick as she walked him down to his seat

Sammy was all dressed with her makeup flawlessly down and in the company of her parents to her convocation

“With a round of applause, the award of the best-graduating student of Economics goes to Master Patrick Uzor,” the vice chancellor said and Patrick stood with elegance and walked majestically to the podium as everyone stood applauding him

As the list went on and on, everyone who graduated from the different department was called out sammy waited to hear her name but unfortunately, her name was not on the list

She became ashamed of herself, she couldn’t even face her parents, unknown to her the lecturer she had been paying before she turned a new leave was caught and her name was listed amongst those he had been helping

The lecturer was jailed and the names of the students he listed on their certificate were withheld by the school

“Sammy so you just wasted four years of life with nothing to show,” her mother said placing her hands on her head when a female lecturer explained the development to them

“ I’m sorry Mom,” Sammy said crying bitterly even though she turned a new leave she never knew her past would come hunting her

Two years down the line a beautiful lady dressed in one of the prettiest wedding gowns was seen walking down the aisle to meet the absolute love of her life it was no other than Catherine who had grown into a beautiful lady already working In a reputable company as she also graduated with a first-class, she got wedded to Patrick in holy matrimony

Catherine and Patrick were blessed with 3 kids and they lived happily ever after
