…….The next morning Sammy booked a cab and
took her father to the hospital she regretted
not coming to the house early enough and
prayed he should get better
As soon as they arrived at the hospital the nurses immediately rushed him to the ICU(intensive care unit) where he was placed on oxygen since he was finding it difficult to breathe
Looking at her father lying helplessly on the bed Sammy couldn’t hold back her tears as they rolled down her checks freely
Sammy turned to look at her mother who was just staring lustfully at the wall shaking her legs as she kept both hands in between her lap and continued shaking them without uttering a word
“Mama, mama the doctors said Papa will be fine, please pull yourself together, “Sammy said taking out her hands from her laps
“Hmmm my husband, the man of my youth, you can’t leave me o, no oh, you can’t leave me “ her mother lamented as the tears she had been holding back began flowing the moment she started talking
“Mama nobody is leaving you, please stop crying, and let’s hope for the best,” Sammy said sadly holding back her own tears
“My daughter you will not understand, ah I can not bear this pain oh, the man of my youth, you can not leave me, no oh “ she wailed loudly
Sammy didn’t know when she hugged her mother tightly, from the way her mother spoke you would know she has been harboring a lot of pain, and if anything happens to her husband that could be the end of her
“Lord please heal my father and make him whole again, I can’t not afford to lose both parents, please God “Sammy prayed under her breathe
Soon the doctor came out and requested to see them in his office
“Good day sir, “Sammy greeted while her mother remained quiet and just sat down
“Good day, I will go straight to the point since your father needs immediate attention, your father has been diagnosed with a stroke which has already affected some parts of his brain and also shortage of blood, “ said the doctor
“We will need a blood donor and also surgery needs to be done on him immediately hence we might lose him,” the doctor said with all seriousness
“ Doctor please do whatever it takes to save my father, just tell me what you need and I will get it immediately money is not an issue, “Sammy said with Assurance
Immediately she mentioned money her mother turned her gaze to her” Where on earth are we going to get money “ her mother asked in a whisper
“ Don’t worry mama I will sort it out “ she said avoiding eye contact with her mother right now her focus is how to save her father
Since no blood matched her father Sammy decided to donate before she could donate series of tests were conducted on her blood and the results weren’t good at all
When she was informed she paid a good amount of money for them to get it elsewhere which they did.
The next morning the surgery was conducted and it was successful but the worst happened her father went into a comma The doctor said they didn’t know when he was going to come out of it they just needed to be prayerful and hopeful
Two weeks after it was time for examination so Sammy had to travel back to school after handling some money to her mother to help Carter for her dad and the family
“ I cannot take this, where did you get this huge amount of money from ?” Her mother asked pushing the bundle of cash aside
“Mama I told you my friend’s mother sent them across, you can always speak to her to confirm “ Sammy lied after persuading her she agreed and Sammy left for school
Somehow the incident with her father made her calm a bit and rethink life, Catherine and Patrick visited her severally and gave her all the support she needed
During her third paper, Sammy left for school hale and hearty, and as soon as she stepped into her class she slumped and was rushed to the hospital by Patrick and some other coursemates
Their exam was postponed till the following week since it was Friday already
“Where am I” Sammy asked when she regained consciousness
“You are at the hospital and the doctors said you need to rest,” Patrick said to her and she lay back
Right there her phone started ringing and Patrick picked it up he was informed by her mother that her dad had gotten out of comma and was responding to treatment
Patrick didn’t know when he shouted for joy when he heard the news and couldn’t wait to share it with Sammy when she was much better
He told her mother Sammy stepped out to get something when she asked after her so she wouldn’t get worried again
“Please which one of you is related to the patient, “ the nurse asked when she walked into the ward Patrick signified and was asked to see the doctor in his office immediately
“ The results I have here are not good,” said the doctor
“Doctor what exactly is the issue, please talk to me,” Patrick said getting worried
“Your sister has traces of hard drugs in her body and also has been diagnosed with HIV, “ the doctor said shaking his head
“What! That’s not possible” Patrick yelled
“Please calm down it is not the end of the road for her, she just needs to take her medication seriously and she will be fine
Patrick felt pity for her if only she had listened to him from the very beginning this wouldn’t have happened. Catherine came to visit her and Patrick informed her about what was going on and she was shocked to her bone marrow
“ Please let this be between us,” Patrick said to her and she nodded still covering her mouth in shock
When Sammy was much better the doctor informed her about her health condition and she refused to believe it and started laughing uncontrollably
instead
