Episode 14

….my daughter how are doing please can you help text me Sammy’s school address
” Sammy’s mother said
“What!” Catherine shouted surprisingly
“Is anything wrong with her, I hope she is okay. “ Sammy’s mom asked with popped eyes
“Yes Mama, she is fine, is just that em, em.……em” Catherine stammered not knowing what to say, of a truth she had never been to Sammy’s house and the few times she had been with her it is either at a hotel or one of the school’s cafeteria
“Hello, hello you said what, I can not hear you” Sammy’s mom shouted from the other side as the line went off
Catherine just slammed herself on her bed not knowing what to do, her phone began ringing again but she didn’t pick up this time around
“Why is her mom in need of her address, I hope all is well” she quizzed and immediately scrolled down her phone to place a call to Sammy
“The number you have dialed cannot be reached please try again later “ the customer service responded to her call
“Oh no, not now,” Catherine said stamping her feet on the ground in annoyance “There is never a time her number will ever go through, what does she even do with her phone “ she asked no one in question
Out of frustration she just lay her back on her bed, she felt bad that she had to end Sammy’s mom’s call and promised herself she would get back to her as soon as she got the address
Catherine was already dosing off when a call came into her phone and woke her up, she slowly picked her phone up and saw it was Patrick calling
She let out a smile and okayed the call
“What’s up pretty face, “ Patrick said with his baritone voice
“Good evening sweet talker, I’m okay and you “ she responded
“I’m fine, is everything okay, you don’t sound too good,” Patrick asked
“I’m fine, you worry too much, I was about to sleep when your call came in, that’s why, “ Catherine said scratching her eyes
“Oh I’m so sorry, I never knew you were sleeping, should I call back “ he asked
“No it’s fine, we can talk since I’m up already, “ Catherine said and they spoke for a while, she was contemplating If she should ask Patrick for Sammy’s address or not
But at last, she later did since he was her only resort
“I don’t think Sammy is in school,” Patrick said when she asked for her address
“Oh she has traveled again,” Catherine said not surprised since the only thing she does is travel from one place to another
“Yeah, we spoke yesterday and she said she was going to catch a flight out of town, do you want to pay her a visit when she is back, we could go together,” Patrick said excitedly
“Not really, I just feel as her friend I should at least know where my friend is staying, “ she said sadly
“Oh that’s true I will text it right away, “ Patrick said, and after they said their goodbyes he texted her the address
Catherine was happy that she had finally gotten the address and wanted to call Sammy’s mom immediately but when she glanced at the time it was late already and she out to be retiring to bed
Her roommate who went to a friend’s party came in just about time and met her smiling to herself
“This one you are smiling from ear to ear, seems you just finished talking with your bobo oh,” Esther said sitting on her bed expecting gist
“You en, I have told you we are just friends, so stop assuming, “ Catherine said rolling her eyes at her
“En you have said so a million times,” Esther said taking off her shoes and undressing herself
“Guess who called me today,” Catherine said
“You know I’m not good at guessing and besides I’m very tired right now, so please just tell me, “ said Esther
“Sammy’s mom called and she is requesting for her address” Catherine let out
“What! I don’t think that is good at all, did you ask her if she intends to come to see her “ Esther asked focusing on her
“No I didn’t, “ said Catherine
“Well I think you should tell Patrick cause her mother coming to school won’t be nice at all, she might not even meet her at home since she is always out of school “ Esther suggested
“I think you are right, only God knows why she wants to come to school,” Catherine said picking up her phone to call Patrick immediately
She told Patrick what was going on and he told her not to send the address until they had gotten to Sammy which she obeyed

Three days later Sammy’s mom was in their room feeding her husband when she had a knock on the door, since the other children were in school she had to go check who was there by herself
“ Good afternoon mama, Sammy greeted” avoiding her mother’s gaze

“ what is wrong with your phone, I have been trying to call you for over a month now and I cannot get to you ” her mother shouted at her
“I’m sorry ma, my battery was bad,” Sammy said showing her a damaged touch light battery
“And so, can’t you at least call with someone’s phone, I even told you your father has been sick and you didn’t show any concern, what has come over you,” her mom asked very pissed
“I’m sorry ma, I have been busy with school work and practicals you know I have just a year in school so I need to put in my best “ Sammy lied
“That is not enough reason for you to neglect your family, you have been away for too long, “ her mother said going in and she followed suit
She met her dad lying on the mat unable to move his body, she never knew it was this serious. Sammy knelt down and placed his head on her lap “Papa I’m here, she said crying “My daughter I have missed you” her father managed to say as saliva dripped from his mouth It was such an emotional moment for both father and daughter
The next morning Sammy booked a cab and took her father to a private hospital she regretted not coming to the house early enough and prayed he would get better
