Chapter 7

I got up early the following day, the day after, to get ready for school. Instead of waiting for Monica, I took action, got some things from my house, left the house, and then went straight to the school.

Monica arrived late, the assembly had almost finished, unlike in the past when she was on time.

The school administrator had to contact her and speak with her in her office. I watched them leave but had no idea what they talked about.

After a while I checked the time and it’s almost 9pm, I left the staff room and went to teach my students physics. Although it’s a 2hr class. I wrapped up everything and came back, my inner wear was drenched with sweat so I had to turn on the A.C to cool me off.

As for Monica, I noticed her leave the school grounds. It appears she went to buy something to eat since she couldn’t find anything to her liking, which is why she left, and it’s because it’s break time, which is why they let her.

So we managed to continue teaching as usual, days turned to weeks.

I was in school having a class when I got an urgent call from my brother telling me that her wife had been feeling uneasy, that she hardly wakes up from bed and she had been constantly vomiting. I became startled.

“No wonder I didn’t see her in school since the last 2 days” I pondered to myself.

“Please I’ll close on time to come and check up on her, I believe everything’s going to be fine brother.” I said to him.

“Better hurry up, I couldn’t go to work today because of her, she’s my wife and I’d always be with her. Samuel I’m expecting you.” he said and aborted the call.

I already knew what was up and it turned out she was right. “Oh Geez! I’ve f**kéd up”
I moaned and violently stoned the white board with the marker I was holding.

All of the students were shocked to see me acting in such a rage. Out of frustration, I gave them a quick assignment before leaving without exhausting my time.

I asked the principal for permission and he granted it, so I quickly grabbed my phone and boarded a taxi right to my brother’s house that was around 12:05pm.

“Samuel I don’t understand what’s going on? each time I try to talk to her, she would insist on telling me she’s fine. In short I’m parplexed right now . Seems the only option left is for me to take her to the clinic, so they could run some tests on her to actually see where the problem is coming from.”

“Honey I’m fine, Please I’ll be okay keep the clinic aside, please all I need right now is hot tea and bread and I promise I’d be fully back on my feet” She sputtered and coughed repeatedly.

“Honey are you sure?”
“Yes please you have to trust me.” Monica replied from where she was lying

“Alright honey, hold on while I go get you some tea. I believe we’ve finished the one we had. Just hold on until I walk outside and get some for you, and we still have some bread, I think the one I bought two days ago is still remaining. I’m coming, so please be patient.” Timothy added and left.

I all alone with her.
We kept staring at each other’s faces.

“Just go, I don’t need any advise from you. In short, you’ve ruined my marriage the only thing left is for him to know that I’m pregnant. And he’d definitely find out because I can’t hide it from him and I bet a grown up man like you should be fully aware.

“Please I’m truly sorry, please forgive me. It was a mistake. It’s the devil’s handwork and I fell for it. I wasn’t myself. Oh Geez! please we, we, we……. can still abort it and no one gets to know…..” I pleaded hysterically while holding her right arm.

“Just listen to yourself! I’m speechless right now. I don’t even know the word I could use to describe you. Just go, in short leave this town because you should know your brother more than I do. And you are fully aware of what he’s capable of if a word of this gets to him.”

“Monica it’s barely a week+ and I bet there should be something we could do to reverse this. You have to trust me okay. I’d look for a solution to this menace I promise.”

When we heard someone approach the door, we hurriedly adjusted ourselves and acted that everything was OK. We even decided to put on a show by smiling as Timothy entered with the tea he had purchased.
