……..”Ah my mother warned me, look at where I
have landed myself” Sammy wailed as she
began crying uncontrollably
She thought about her parents and how they constantly warned her to be mindful of the kind of life she lived in their absence
“Being alone in school is not enough reason for you to roll with people that are not upright just because no one is seeing or monitoring you” her mother’s words kept ringing in her head
Just then she remembered Patrick informed her that her father was out of comma and responding to treatment. She stood up and wiped her face with the back of her hands before placing a call to her mom
“My daughter, the lord has done it oh,” Sammy’s mom said over the phone from her voice you could tell she was very happy
“Yes mama, Patrick said Papa is out of comma, how is he doing now “ Sammy said with a faint voice
“Are you okay,? this one you can barely talk!” Her mother said sensing all was not well
“I’m fine mama, I just woke up that’s why “Sammy lied
“By this time, how will you sleep again if you just woke up by this time “her mother asked
“Ah mama, you worry too much, “Sammy said letting out a faint smile ‘ you know I have exams on Monday so I will be reading all night, “ said Sammy
“Okay, write well oh, your father just slept so you will talk to him tomorrow,” her mother said. Still excited
“Okay mama, I will, please take care of Papa for me I will call to speak with him tomorrow, “Sammy said as she ended the call
Her only consolation right now was her father, she thought she was going to lose him but thanked God for sparing his life
Sammy dropped the phone and rolled over to the end of her bed, she tried sleeping but she could not she stood up went to her shelf, and brought out her textbook to read for the first time in ages
Sammy sat on her bed flipped through the textbook and stopped at a page she read through and didn’t get any understanding “How will u understand when you don’t attend classes” she said to herself as she playfully smacked her head with the book
“Hmmm I have been missing out, “she said shaking her head sadly and eventually lay back on the bed after some minutes she drafted into sleep
On Monday morning Sammy got dressed and headed to school for her exam she managed to read a little the previous day, even though she didn’t understand that much
“Hmmm someone is looking pretty this morning, “ Patrick said teasing her as she sat beside him and flung her hair into the air while she blushed and let out a faint smile
“Thank you, good morning to you” she greeted

“Good morning your highness, you look better and sparkling beautiful, “Patrick said smiling at her
“Yeah I know, I hope you read for two,” Sammy said jokingly pointing at him
“Oh, you never told me to,” he replied
“How about the test, which of the hospitals are we going to re-run it again “ asked Patrick
“I don’t know, I don’t intend to, just like the doctor said it’s not the end of the road for me I just have to brace up myself and face my challenges, “ Sammy said with a straight face
“Oops looks like someone has been listening to a lot of motivational quotes, “ Patrick said clapping
“It is what it is, “said Sammy bringing out her exam materials as they were about to start off
Since the incident at the hospital, somehow Sammy became more reserved and all to herself on several occasions she turned down every party invite that she got even her friend Jesse was surprised at her change of character
“Come oh, what is going on, you have been acting weird for weeks now,” said Jesse with a frown as she sat close to Sammy on the couch
“I’m okay, why did you say so,” Sammy said laughing
“No na, this is unlike you babe, you are the life of the party and your agility is next to know, but all of a sudden you just went cold, “ Jesse said looking worried
“ It’s not like that, I just want some me time that’s all,” Sammy said smiling
“Me time ke, there is a party on Friday on the island and all the big fish will be there, so you better get yourself together, “ Jesse said rolling her eyes
“ I am not sure I will be able to attend since I’m done with the exam I will be traveling back home on Friday to meet my family, “ Sammy said scratching her head
“Oh really, well that’s on you, “ Jesse said angrily and left
Sammy could not bring herself to tell Jesse about her health condition, she knew she wouldn’t take it likely “Always protect yourself, oh, never you get carried away with these men “ Jesse will always say
Truth be told she has always protected herself but how come she got infected she still can’t tell. Thinking about the whole issue just spoilt her mood and her gloomy face became pale at once
Very early on Friday morning, Sammy packed some of her stuff in a small box and headed to the pack to board a bus home
She got to her compound in the afternoon and met her mom washing outside
Sammy ran to her and embraced her tightly as tears flowed down her cheeks, her mother was surprised because this was unlike her
When she heard her daughter sniff her nose, she knew all was not well and she returned the hug tapping her gently on the back “All will be fine okay” said her mother
