An Overseas Husband episode 17

AN OVERSEAS HUSBAND. .

CHAPTER 17

I was totally lost in thought as I could only think about Collins. This is kind of weird. Should I tell Chika yet?

When Chika later visited during the day, I couldn’t help but tell her.

“Jesus! You’re so lucky, Stella. I’m happy for you.” Chika said as soon as I told her about Collins and I.

“I haven’t said yes yet.”

“What are you waiting for? ”

“I called my pastor to join me in prayers and I have been praying too. I’m waiting for an answer from God.”

“It’s a yes o. My spirit already knows that it’s a yes.” Chika went on and on about Collins doing something on my head in the village before we leave for Lagos.

“It’s too sudden.” I said as we were distracted by the sound of a car driving into the compound. Chibuzor steps out from the other side of the front seat of the car. The driver’s door opens and Collins steps out.

Collins was surprised to see me. He didn’t expect me to be in the compound. Chibuzor was also surprised seeing Chika, his wife here. He remember leaving her at home. He had only agreed to come to visit Stella’s parents with Collins to ask for their consent to marry their daughter.

“Good afternoon, sir.” Collins said to my father as he bowed a bit. My father has been sitting under the the big udara tree with Big daddy.

“Good afternoon, my son.” My father replied.

“I have come to seek your permission to marry your daughter, Stella.” Collins said with his head bowed.

“What!” I exclaimed in disbelief as Chika pinches me. “What did you say?” I said as I looked at Collins who had a calm smile on his face.

Mother had already approached us with big mummy by her side. My parents looked at her in surprise as I turned to look at them. My father cleared his throat as he looked at his wife. He could tell by her smile that she was happy about the news.

“My son, you have our blessings.” My father said and stretched out his hand to Collins.

Collins took his hand and stood up. He looked at me who was obviously still in shock.

“You will give me an answer after we talk.” Collins said as he turned to face me.

“No!” I said and ran into the house.

I ran into my room and shut the door. I stood by the door and leaned against it. I could hear my mother and father discussing with Collins but I couldn’t hear what they were saying. My mind was in a whirl as I tried to process what had just happened. I had never expected Collins to come to ask for my hand in marriage.

We had just started seeing each other and I don’t even know if I like him that much. But one thing was for sure, I think he’s serious about me. I like that he had taken the time to ask my parents for their blessing.

A soft knock on the door brought me out of my thoughts.

“Come in.” I said said in a shaky voice. I didn’t expect it to bw Collins so I didn’t know what to say to him.

The door opened slowly and Collins walked in. He stood in front of me and I could see the uncertainty in his eyes.

“I’m sorry if I caught you off guard.” He said. “I know it’s fast but I just felt that I had to do this before you leave for Lagos.”

“I need time to think.” I replied as I sat on the bed. “I need to process this.”

“It’s fine by me. I’ll take my leave now.” He walks towards the door and stops. “Just know that I truly love you and I am not playing games with you.” He leaves ans shut the door quietly behind him.
