Chapter 6
I went back home, i met my dad and maria sitted in the sitting room, i glared at maria and walked into my room. Few minutes later, i heard a knock on my door.
” favour please can i come in? My dad asked.
“Yes you can” i said, he came in and he sat beside me on the bed.
“Favour , am very sorry, i know i hurt you, but am sorry, i didn’t mean to keep things from you, please forgive me ” my dad said as he pleaded.
“Dad, how could you, if it was another woman I would accept her but maria is an exception” i said sadly.
“I know, she is your friend, please accept her, she is pregnant for me and there is nothing wrong with it, please am begging you , so there will be peace in this house, i want you to be friends with her again ” my dad pleaded.
“Okay dad i will try” i said.
” please darling try, she is not the one at fault, i am the one ” my dad said.
“Ok dad” i said.
“Thank you” my dad said as we hugged.
Few days later
Everything was fine , maria was living with us , i avoided her , i don’t talk or reply her whenever she talks. That day , i and maria was the only one at home, my dad went to work, i was feeling hungry so i went to the kitchen to get myself breakfast since our maid travelled to visit her sick mother, as i was cooking, maria entered the kitchen.
“Favour, good morning ” she said as she greeted me, i didn’t answer her, i just walked away.
“Favour are you deaf? She said as she faced me.
” you must be very stupid for that statement am not deaf, i just decided not answer you” i said as i continue walking. But maria blocked my path.
“I know you are very angry because your dad is getting married to me, but there is nothing you can do about it ,moreover am pregnant, i know your mom’s ghost must be somewhere lingering around this house, she must have been so angry that someone is replacing her place, but everything in this world is fate, she must have been fated to die early, i really feel sorry for her” maria said mockingly as she cleaned her fake tears. I was so angry that i raised my hand and slapped her, she almost lost her balance, she was shocked, suddenly my dad opened the door, maria bursted into tears and ran to him.
“Why are you crying? My dad asked.
” favour didn’t mean to slap me” she said, that sly girl.
” you mean favour slapped you? My dad asked angrily.
“She didn’t mean to ” maria said as she wiped her face.
“Favour why did you slap her, you are so mean, don’t you know she is pregnant, i thought you said you would be friends, but you lied,i know you hate her just because she married your dad, what if i didn’t back home to pick something, you would have beaten her black and blue, why are you so senseless? My dad said angrily, i couldn’t not believe my ears, my dad didn’t even bother to ask about what she did, i looked him suddenly and bursted into tears and ran towards my room.
One week later
” favour come out ” my dad shouted as he knocked my door, i was suprised because since the day i slapped maria he was angry with me and he didn’t bother to talk to me since that day.
” open this door before i break it” he shouted. I got out of the bed and opened the door.
“Dad good morning ” i said as i greeted him.
” there is nothing good about this morning, follow me” he commanded as he walked away.
“Dad what’s wrong? I asked but he didn’t answer so i followed him, i got to the sitting room and i saw our maid kneeling down, i saw maria crying, when she saw me, she rushed towards me and held me.
“Why do you have to be so wicked, i know i offended you, but that doesn’t give you the right to try to abort my baby, favour why do you want to harm my baby, the baby is innocent why do you want to harm my unborn child” she said as she was crying. What’s wrong with this girl? Abort her baby, what’s my business with her babyπ , my dad took off her hands and made her sit on the chair.
“Favour explain this ” my dad said as he threw something at me it was a medicine.
“Dad what’s this? I asked.
” oh, so you don’t know that is abortion drug but you gave it to the maid to put inside Maria’s drink” my dad shouted.
“Dad i did not give the maid anything not to talk of abortion drug” i said. I was so suprised
”Olamide talk, she said she did not give you anything” my dad said.
” ha , small madam, why are you lieing ?you gave me the medicine you said i should put it inside big Madam drink, i asked you what it was, but you didn’t answer me you said you will give me money if i did it”our maid Olamide said as she faced me, why is this girl lieing? i never gave her any medicine ,what’s she saying , why is she lieing.
“Dad, i swear ,i did not give her any medicine to put in Maria’s drink” i said.
” oh , she is lieing, you gave her the medicine yesterday evening , it was even captured in the cctv footage “my dad said as he took his latop on the table and showed me a video on his latop, i was the one in the video, i gave the maid something, i was shocked, that was another thing entirely, that was not what happened, Then i remembered that yesterday evening my dad took maria out so i was the only one at home with my maid, i sat in the sittingroom, i saw my maid looking a little bit dull, i asked her what the problem was ,she said she was having menstrual cramps, so i told her i have some medicines , so i went to my room and took some medicines for her , then i went back to the sitting room and gave her the medicine she thanked me, and she walked away.
“Dad the medicine i gave her was for menstrual cramps, i never gave her any medicine to put in Maria’s drink”i said, i glared at my maid, what this girl motive, what’s all this conspiracy.
” but you said you didn’t give her anything , but now, you said you gave medicine for her menstrual cramps, favour ,you are such a lier, why did you want to turn yourself into a murderer, just because you are not happy with maria, what if i hadn’t caught the maid,What if? If not because you are my daughter, i would have had you arrested, because you wanted to harm an innocent soul, favour why are you so wicked?My dad said. I started crying, i am not an evil person even if i hated maria, i would never harm her unborn child, why would i harm my blood, i looked at maria and noticed that she had this sly smile on her face, this must be maria doing, i can’t believe this.
“Dad, i am not the one, it must be maria, she wants you to hate me, she wants destroy our relationship she must have bribed the maid to lie, so you could hate me , that manipulating…….. i hadn’t completely my sentence when a slap landed on my face , my dad slapped me, i almost fell down, since i have known my dad he has never for once slapped me even if i did something wrong he would just correct me, but he slapped me for the first time because of maria, first it was mark, now my dad, Maria this house will be very hot for you, i said in my mind as i glared at her…………
