CONTINUATION. . . COMING TO LAGOS. . EP 16
“Samuel just got involved in an accident.” The caller said to me. “Your number was the last called person so we decided to call you when we picked up his phone.”
“Where are you now? Which hospital?” I asked the caller.
“St. Peters hospital at Ojota.”
I don’t know that place but I quickly tried his sister’s number but it wasn’t going through. I didn’t know who to call. Stella. I called her and she quicky directed me. I wasn’t that sure so I also put on my Google map and asked people too.
I got to the hospital and met Samuel at the door of the hospital. No one was attending to him. No one could come close to him but they stood afar staring at him as he kept bleeding and losing blood.
I ran towards him and off out that he was bleeding from his left side, close to his ribs.
I bent and used my hands to stop the bleeding abit as I shouted for help when a little girl ran to me and gave me something like a white clothe and I woke.
What kind of dream is this?
I knelt down and prayed for Samuel’s safety as I called mum and told her.
“My dear, that’s a confirmation. Even a mother in our prayer meeting confirmed it too. She said his name even when I haven’t told anyone.”
That was it.
I was contemplating if to send him a text or tell him face to face. I decided to tell him to his face. I needed to see his reaction.
It was not until weekend did I mention wanting to meet him. Weekends were my free days because I work from home. We picked a cool restaurant around Surulere and I decided to clear the air.
“Samuel, I’m happy about everything you’ve done for me starting from the first day we met even when we were strangers. I still find it how to believe that a total stranger could help me out the way you did. Thank you so much.”
“I have told you to stop thanking me.” He said.
“I have to. But I asked us to meet today because of our last pending discussion.”
I watched him. His eyes, his hands were almost shaking. “Are you scared?”
“No but please go straight to your answer. .” He said.
I was fighting hard to hold back my laughter. “I’m sorry but. . I don’t want you to feel bad about what I’m going to say.” I kept watching him. Then I kept quiet for him to speak.
“So, your answer is. . ”
“Yes.” I cut him halfway through his statement.
“What?” He nearly screamed. I noticed some people turned towards our direction. “Yes, let’s give us a trial.”
He couldn’t hold back himself as he engulfs me in a hug.
“I can’t breathe, Sam.” I managed to say as he finally releases me.
“My God. I love you Blessing. I can finally say it now. You know you scared me.”
“Really?”
“I actually was scared you’ll say No but guess who encouraged me?”
“Who?”
“I said guess, see her head.”
I hit him slightly on his arms. “Tell me jor.”
“Freda. I don’t know how she got to know, maybe her dad. She’s daddy’s girl you know. She told me that you’re my wife, that she likes you.”
“Awwwn. I’m happy.”
“I’m much happier, Blessing, or should I say my love?”
“Stop it, Sammy.” I said blushing.
“No no. I don’t want Sammy. ”
“Ok, my mile 2 saviour.” I replied covering my mouth with my hands to avoid laughing out loud. He couldn’t hold back his laughter.
“Now bring out your phone and change it.” He said laughing and looking into my eyes. “You’re so beautiful, Blessing.”
“Stop it nau. My cheeks are hurting from blushing so hard.” I replied.
“It will burst o because I’m saying the truth and I’ll always say this truth to you any opportunity I get to, my love.”
“You’re just stubborn, mile 2 saviour.”
“Don’t call me that, aunty Blessing.”
“What will you do if I don’t.?” I said also looking into his eyes, he grabs my hands and put them in his.
Still looking into my eyes, he answers. “If you don’t stop, I’m gonna change that surname of yours today.”
“Then I’m not changing it.” I said acting like a stubborn 5 year old.
“Awwn, my baby is trying to be stubborn.”
“I’ll tell Freda you’re calling a grown Aunty like me a baby.” I replied laughing at the “beautiful ” man in front of me. Beautiful in heart and face. I love this man. I love my man.
I was shocked the way mum screamed in excitement when I told her.
“Mummy, please don’t shout. You’re still recovering.” I said concerned about her health.
“Which recovering? I’m so happy my dear.”
“It’s not yet marriage na, mum. We want to see how things will work out.”
“Work gini? It has already worked out. See my dear, it’s sealed in heaven, on earth, under the earth and even in the water. Nwam, congratulations o.”
“Ahh mummy, you eh.” My brother, Daniel, says amiss laughter as he collects the phone from mum. “But sister you told me he’s just a friend o. Nice one.”
“Get out jor. Small boy.” I replied laughing out loud.
“I’m now a big boy now o. It’s me that will collect your bride price o. I’m the one who will stand in as papa that day so you have to give me that respect.”
“See his big mouth o. Come and hand me over nau.” I could hear mama laughing at he background. “Hope you are better now, mama?”
“Yes o. Thank God for my son in law.”
“Yes o. My brother in law.” Daniel added.
“Daniel, I’ll hit you my slippers o. Mind yourself. In fact, go and sleep you this small boy.”
“Leave my husband alone o.” Mummy defended him. She always did that since daddy died. She calls him “my husband.”
“Mummy, warn your husband o.”
“But is he not my brother in law? I will call my brother in law before I go to bed.” I knew what Daniel was trying to do and all these was because I’m not around. I have missed him and his headaches.
“Don’t even try it. Mummy, don’t give him Samuel’s number o.”
“Ahah. Don’t you want your brother to have his future brother in law’s number? Go and sleep jor. I know her cheeks must be red.” Mummy answered supporting Daniel again.
“Yes, mama. It’s called blushing?”
“Blushing?” Mummy repeated as though it was a question.
“Yes, blushing.” Daniel answered. “Brother Samuel must have said so many sweet things to her and she was smiling like village girls in love.” Daniel was doing this on purpose. He knows I’m not around to hit him.
“Mummy, good night. Daniel, I’ll have your time one day.” I could hear him laughing as I ended the call.
To be continued. . .
