The Aseobi girls
Episode 16.
When Chioma narrated everything that happened today, Adekunle’s visit, she didn’t know when a tear escaped from her eyes.
Joy felt it.
She engulfed her in a hug, reassuring her that nothing of such will happen again.
Rape victims tend to always have this fear of reoccurrence. It just doesn’t go away. Most times, therapy is suggested for such victims.
Just like Chioma, many of them end up hating men. Relationships. They have been trying to make Chioma see life as it should. Love. Chioma thinks it’s only in fairy tales. Seeing Joy and Daniel, she’s slowly loving the idea of love buy feels she don’t deserve one. Damaged. Broken.
Joy wanted to tell them that Daniel wants her to meet his mum but she observed that this was not a good time. In no time, Chioma had slept off in her arms as Joy stared at her small oval shaped face.
“She has been through alot really.” Nancy said in almost a whisper as they carried Chioma into the room.
Joy carried from her hands while Bella and Nancy carried the legs.
They laid her on the bed and went back to the sitting room to finish up the food they left half eaten.
“I ran into an old friend today. Guess what? He was my long time crush back in secondary school.” Nancy said breaking the silence.
“Wow. He must have been a cute guy back then to have you crush on him because I know you. Cute guys won’t be the end of you.” Joy mocked Nancy as Bella urged her to continue her gist.
“He’s looking more handsome than when I remember. He has a car now.”
Nancy went on to tell them about Joshua. They had exchanged contacts and he promised to give her a call.
“What’s the main koko in this gist.” Bella asked sarcastically.
“I didn’t see any ring on his finger.”
“Then buy one and give him.” Bella retorted playfully.
“Wait o. You mean you still. . .” Joy starts off prolonging the last word as she tilts her head to one side as though it had some message to pass.
“Yes.” Nancy replies feeling a bit embarrassed as she understands what Joy was asking. “Yes, I still like him.”
“So you have started liking a man at your age?”
“Bella, what is your problem eh?”
“No o. Joy, let me speak sense into her head. You know heaven is still the goal, right?” Bella asked, facing Nancy who was giggling.
“That means, Joy have gone astray. Isn’t it?” Nancy replies passing the bullet to Joy.”
“No o. I’m still on the race. The bible says two is better than one. So we’re running it together incase one person gets tired, the other will help in. . . You know na.” Joy defended hoping Bella drops the act already but it seemed Bella was ready for them.
“Heaven is a personal race, my sister. Stop changing the word of God. Attend Sunday school, you said no. Now see your life.” Bella was not going to drop the subject and as though nature was on her side, a call enters Nancy’s phone.
“Is he the one?” Bella whispers as Nancy picks the call.
“Hello. Good evening. Is this Ms Nancy?”
“Yes. Good evening. Who am I on to?”
“This is Joshua. Joshua Christian. We met earlier today. ..”
” Oh yeah. Joshua. How are you doing?”
“Our in-la. . .” Joy was quick to cover Bella’s mouth as Nancy runs into the room shutting the door behind her.
