In love with Adaobi π©ββ€οΈβπ¨
Chapter Eight
I ran as fast as my leg could carry me as I pant calling on my grandma and Emeka. Some passerby were wondering what is going on with me as I ran ahead towards Emeka house. As i was about reaching their house I saw my grandma running towards my direction without her wrapper, I jumped on her immediately crying and couldn’t look back.
“I have told you! I have warned you stay away from that ogbanje girl ha! obi you will not ki ll me before my time. thank you Jesus! thank you Jesus ooooo for saving my grandson. she said shouting as people are now coming around to know what is going on.
my grandma began to curse Ada’s family and that, they should leave her and her family alone.
“what happened mama fashion?. a woman asked her as she began to narrate what Emeka told them about us seeing Ada in form of beast. The people scattered around running into their house as they closed their door while my grandma and Emeka mother also ran into their house.
My grandma began to parabulate as to what they can do as it’s that no one is fearless to go and see Ada to confirm. Emeka and I sat beside each other looking at them.
“why did you run away without me?. I asked Emeka who’s still in shocked.
“I don’t want to die na, because I know if I should call you, you might not want to follow me because I know you love Ada and probably might want to see what she’s made of.
“come on shut up!. I said to him in annoyance.
“my dear oya let go home, your parents are around. my grandma said in which Emeka looked at me and bow his head as I stood up.
“Emeka. I called.
“bye..bye”. He said without looking up at me.
I followed my grandma in which Emeka mother bid me goodbye and to take care of myself.
I wasn’t happy to live but the experience I just had now really made me scared. I still want to know why Ada is now behaving this way unlike her. I know she really needs me, the dream and the way she cried and reacted earlier speak a lot that she is not her real self as she is soliciting for my help. But, what can I do? why is her life in danger all of a sudden? why is she appearing in my dream seeking for help? is there anyway I can help her?.
So many questions kept pumping into my head as my mother embraced brought me back to reality as she hugged me happily asking how I’m doing.
“are you not happy to see me?. my mother asked as I smiled just to make her feel good.
“what happened to your cloth? mama, why is his cloth rumpled like this?. She asked grandma who told her to let them settled down first that something occur that makes it to be rough.
My father held me closer to him as he caressed my cheeks.
“my boyyy you’re now a grown up man! infact grandma did a lot on you. he said as they all laughed while we entered.
I heard my grandma replying some people outside as they greeted her because of my parents arrival.
“una thank you ooo thank you!.
She entered and my grandma went to dish food for my parents to eat.
“mama ooo ha! you and how you do cook your food hahaha. my mother said.
“it’s heavenly gift my daughter that is how I do capture your father back then. she said as they laughed while I watched them.
My mother noticed my coldness as she asked my grandma what is going on with me in which she started explaining how I began to associate myself with Ada.
“ehn! Ada and my son! God forbid bad thing. obi you better get yourself together now before I slap your face to reset your thinking. mama, why will you allow him to even talk to her at first? infact, thank God we are going soon.
I wondered why my mother that is not around could also reacted like that or could it be that she’s also aware of who Ada’s family is?. I stood up and went to the kitchen to fetch washing hand water when I decided to stay at one side to listen to what they are saying.
“I don’t even understand my Reverend father in church sef when I explained how Obi has been dreaming about Ada in….
“what did he say?. my father asked.
She then told them Reverend father told her that I should be brought to the church that Ada and I are met for each other, he said Ada mother made a covenant with the water goddess when she was desperate to have a child that if she should grant her her wish and make her deliver a girl that she will make sure to use any man that genuinely love her once she is grown as a sacrifice for her daughter longevity.
“ehn! Jesus! so they’re now plotting to use my son as the sacrifice Tah! God forbid! God forbid ooo.
“shiiiiiii don’t shout I don’t want him to hear us. my grandma said quietly.
I was shocked by what I just heard like how on Earth would I be made to be use for someone longevity. my grandma then told her that she told her Reverend father that she can never allowed me to be use that she has been warning me to abstain from Ada.
She said he told her that the Reason I kept seeing Ada seeking for my help is because she has long time been tormented as everyone knows in the village about her being possessed with strange behavior that she herself can’t even stopped once it started. but, it seems ever since she fell in love with me that those things have stopped but she’s been dealt with spiritually for fighting her mother anytime she tries getting me to be ki lled.
“see, my daughter I don’t want to believe what the Reverend is saying seriously because how could that be possible habba! is obi the only boy in the village.
“but mama, I think you can’t see what the man is really saying though but since this is between life and dea th, why don’t we take him there and see the outcome of what he’s saying. my father said.
“what are you saying honey? so, I should let my own son like my only child oooo to be used as sacrifice for one ogbanje girl tah! it can’t happen.
“but, it seems there will be a way he can survive this na if he can rescue her with prayer . he said
“no! the only way he can rescue himself is by living this village for good my dear at least they won’t be able to get him there. I just don’t want to have any issue with Ada’s family again for what they did to me in the past. my grandma said looking around and called me severally as I ran back taken some plate and was making it loud to make them think I’m washing it.

Some hours later everything have been packed into the car as we set out to go. my father gave my grandma a huge envelope money telling to please use it to take care of herself.
“thank you my pikin, thank you ooo. she said while dancing.
I was seated in the car when I saw a popular mad woman in the village who came towards grandma and spattered on her while shouting.
“you don’t want your grandson to save her abi? hahahaha don’t worryyyy I say don’t worryyyy na for half journey all of them go perish with their car sebi you know wan hear warning mama ogechi hahahaha. you better don’t let them go. she said laughing in which my grandma uses stone to Chase her away as she returned the curse to her.
“so, this woman is not heal yet from this her madness?. my mother asked angrily watching the mad woman as she ran away.
“don’t mind the useless woman, I don’t blame when they have sucked her brain and left her with empty skull why won’t she come her to start saying trash rubbish!!!!!. my children enter your car and be going Abegiii.
“how I wish my grandma would take heed to the warning. I said while looking at them as they laughed and I was hoping this won’t be the end of those laugh for my grandma.
