I have a….confe-ss–ion to–to- make. She said while holding on to her daughter.
“this is not time for that.” Ada father said carrying her up immediately running down as the rest followed.
“where are you taking her to?. mama fashion asked going after him.
“to the hospital”. He answered.
Myy grandma tried convincing him that it’s not a matter of hospital, that it might be as a result of what she did that backfired, to make her crippled.
He wasn’t listening to her, even the pastor told him to be calm that he should carry her into the church so that they can pray for her.
“pastor, are you sure is prayer she need?. He asked.
“by the name of Jesus”. The pastor said.
“carry me into the church.” Ada mother said as he hurried back into the church.
Emeka mother alighted from afar as she ran to us asking how it all went, my grandma told her God as finally delivered me.
“thank you Jesus! thank you Jesus!!!! but, have you tried calling to know the condition of his parents. She asked.
At that moment my thinking faculty went straight to my parents as I begged my grandma to let go see them. She told me we should at least listen to what Ada mother is about saying before going to check them.
“ehn! what happened to Ada mother?. Emeka mother asked looking anxious.
my grandmother explained all what happened to her as she was just exclaiming and shouting Jesus, Jesus!.
She held her hand as they both Walked into the church. Emeka tickled me as I laughed.
“I am really happy that you’re back city boy, if you see the way a whole me, ha! a whole Emeka, praying like never before”. He said as we both laugh when we heard Ada voice at the entrance of the church shouting that we should hurried inside.
We ran into the church and saw my grandmother holding Mama Ada hand. In my mind I was like what is going on? we moved closer to them as Emeka and I sat beside Ada watching what is going on.
“I am really sorry Mama ogechi, I just want you to forgive me.
“I have forgiven you”. My grandmother said telling her to calm down as she was shaking and unable to move her body.
“I went to Ezemuo place to beg him to help me Kil l your grandson Bec…
“Jesus! I know, I know it will be you”. Mama fashion said almost in tears..
“what did my grandson do to you? why do you act nice at my front and plot evi l behind me? what did I do to you mama Ada?.
“no, he didn’t offend me but, I just don’t want my daughter to di e I’m just….
“that’s why you wanted my own grandchild to di e okwaya, no be so?.” She said rubbing her body.
“you know how many years I waited to have a girl child after having my 4 boys….
I then remembered how my grandma once told me how Ada came as a glorious child to her family after 20 years of wanting a girl child after her last born which is boy.
so, basically she was born when I was 3 years. ha! her mother Tried ooo she gave birth to her grandchild when her son’s wife could have probably given birth to girls as
grandchild”. Emeka tapped me as I focused back to what she’s saying.
I went to Ezemuo one day to help seek the gods for a girl child in which he…he….he
“he what?. Ada father asked as she cried.
“he told me after the consultation that the only way I can have a girl child is…is… when he will copulate with me once and….
“Ha!!!!!
We all shouted as I looked at Ada repeatedly.
“so, Olanma you had sexual intercourse with that swamped! ha! I hate you! I hate you!!!
“no wonder you always want me to allow you carry Ada to his place whenever she became tormented or sick. Ada father said sadly as he broke down in tears.
“I’m sorry my husband, I’m only trying to have a girl child by all means most especially when I saw how glorious mama ogechi daughter wedding was done in which actually honour her in the village.
“hmmm, chineke!!!. mama fashion said clapping her hands together looking so baffled.
“so, Ada is not my daughter!!!.” Ada father said angrily as he felt like punching her if not for the intervention of the pastor and others that are around who held him back.
“no, let him beat me please! I worth it, I deserve it, I’m not a good wife and mother, I let jealousy and hatred dwell in me. please forgive me everybody, please tell chukwuemeka, ifeanyi and Festus to please forgive me.” she said crying profusely.
Ada stood up beside me as she has cried her eyes out. I followed her immediately in which I told Emeka to stay back as he insisted to follow in case of anything.
I followed her out as she faced me telling me to let her be alone. I draw her back to me holding her closed to my chest as she sobbed.
“why? why will mama do this to me? how could I be…oh!!! she shouldn’t have just said it at all noooooo obi I can’t be a daughter to that man! I should just have di e instead of hearing this.” She said beneath my chest crying as I told her not to worry that I’m here for her.
“Ada sorry ooo please don’t cry too much because of your beauty”. Emeka said as I looked at him angrily on why he would be saying such at the moment.
We suddenly saw Ada father coming out of the church in annoyance holding a broken bottle on his left hand walking away angrily while two men ran after him.
“ha! what is going on?.” Emeka asked looking worried as I cover Ada face on my chest in other not to let her see what is going on.
I then heard my grandmother screaming from the church as we all ran inside to see what is going on. We saw Ada mother lifeless body on the floor as my grandma and others kept calling and tapping her to wake up.
“it’s not her Time to go but, because she decided to dine with the dev il and not fulfilling their desire. so, the reward is her life that she just lay down for.
I quickly turned back looking at Ada who have been holding hands with as she step forward slowly in tears towards her mother.
“mama! mama!! mama!!!!!!!!”. She screamed out shaking her mother to wake up.
One man ran inside and informed us that Ada father is at Ezemuo house causing commotion as both of them are really exchanging words at each other as if in battle.
We all hurried out again as I beckon on Ada to let go as she told me to leave her that I can go that she doesn’t want to witness the scenery.
“will you be fine?. I asked as she nodded her head. I will be back once it’s nothing much okay don….
my grandmother dragged me immediately as I staggered and followed her behind.

“what is your problem Ikenna? I said I didn’t have anything to do with your wife or are you deaf!. He shouted back at him.
“then how did she ended up having a girl child? no, tell me!”. He said angrily at him.
“I will ki ll you today for that nonsense you did, you made me raised a bastard child all this years. Ada father struggling away from those holding him.
Ezemuo went inside angrily and came out holding up fetish powder and blew it at him and began to chant.
“ohh oh, you think I’m scared of your nonsense! you can’t do anything to me never! the name of Jesus is powerful and it will destroy you and your use less shrine! . Ada father said.
Mama fashion and others tried calming him down as some were calling on Ezemuo to be calm so that they can settle it amicably.
“ask him why he would tell my wife it’s his sperm that can produce girl child for her by sleeping with her?. Ada father said in which he eventually step back and sat on the ground.
mama fashion whispered to his ear not to forget his wife is still at the church.
Ezemuo kept telling them he didn’t impregnate her that she’s lying on him. He only had one time intimacy with her that he won’t lie but, he is very sure she’s not his daughter.
“so, she is holy ghost daughter abi ? Ezemuo!. my grandma questioned him.
“okay, fine! I will tell you what really happened. when she came to me that day in which I consulted the gods ehn….I was told by the gods to sleep with her once and it’s not that I released into her ooo but, I never knew it could result to my own egg.
“you see this big idi ot! so the gods now have mouth to talk okwaya? you must be a crazy man. mama fashion yelled at him in which the policemen nabbed him dragging him.
“infact it’s really good that the police are even here, Kai! definitely God knows what is going to happen already that was why mama Ada went to call on the police not knowing it’s this Devi lish man they will end up arresting”. Mama fashion said at the top of her voice
“I said I didn’t do it na, I told her to make sure her husband sleep with her that very day.
“so you took advantage of her, you wicked herbalist”. One of the police man said hitting his head.
“to the extent he gave her concoction to eat ooo saying anytime she let it know to anybody about his deed that she will di e. What a wicked man!. Emeka mother said as people began to throw stone at Ezemuo.
“I will invoke the spirit of the gods to strike all of you”. Ezemuo shouted at them.
“your gods that’s powerless!”. A woman shouted among the people.
“take him away!!!! take him away!!!!
The people began to shout and clapping behind him while calling him different name.
“your cup is full today! all your evil doing as come to an end. The old woman said.
I looked at Ada father who is seated on the floor as some people including mama fashion gathering around him telling him to stand up to go back to the church to carry his de ad wife to be bury. I suddenly remembered Ada and ran back to the church as fast as possible before mama fashion would thought of looking for me.
I looked around the church building after gotten into the church and couldn’t see her and her mother.
“Ada!!!!! Ada!!!!!! Ada!!!!!!!
I called her severally without response.
“Dem don carry her mama go house”. A man said.
“thank you baba”. I said thanking him.

I went back to Ezemuo house and didn’t see anyone in which I was told they have all gone to Ada’s house. I was really tired as I ran again to Ada house panting.
There were weeping and wailing everywhere and as I look around searching for my grandma and Ada.
Immediately she sighted me she ran up to me hugging me and asking while I didn’t follow them when they were coming.
“I’m sorry”. I said rubbing her head.
“I go love oo”. Emeka said walking behind us as I laughed.
I saw my grandma beside Ada house talking to someone on call and was jumping up in excitement as I wondered what is going on.
“Could it be that my parents are back to life?.
