The past 3
Immediately we stepped into the house, Oluchi, my wife to be, bowed down and greeted my parents.
“Good afternoon ma’am, good afternoon, sir.”
“Eeeh, my daughter. You’re welcome.”
They exchanged pleasantries before ushering us into the sitting room. Before we could start discussing, my mum rushed into the kitchen and brought the delicacies she made for us.
Without much ado, we sat down comfortably and devoured the sumptuous meal like our lives depended on it.
It.
A few minutes after we finished eating, I broke the ice.
“Dad, mum, this is Oluchi, the lady I want to spend the rest of my life with . I brought her today so that both of you can meet her”
“My son, you’ve done well. We’ve been waiting for this moment for a very long time now, and thank God we’re alive to witness this day, ” my father spoke faintly.
“Thank you, dad, for approving this union said.
My mum, who was seemingly too excited, simply looked at us and said;
“My son, she looks like someone from a good home. I hope you both love each other?.”
“Yes,” we chorused.
We stayed for some hours before I told my parents that we would like to start going because the journey was far.
As we stood up to go, I beckoned Oluchi to give me a few minutes so that I would use the restroom.
She agreed.
However, as I was coming out from the restroom, I saw my mum waiting for me by the door.
“Haaaa, mum, what are you doing here?”
“My son, I don’t know why I feel so weird immediately you entered this house with that lady. How long have you known her? Where is she from? ”
“I don’t understand what you’re trying to say,” I snapped back.
Trying not to make me angry, my mum whispered into my ears.
“I’m not saying that she’s not good for you. What I’m saying is that something is not just right with her”.
“Mum, I still don’t understand what you’re….”, I couldn’t finish my statement before Oluchi called me from the sitting room.
“Babe, are you not done yet? Remember that the journey is far”.
“I’m coming right away, babe”
I took permission from my mum before heading back to the sitting room to meet Oluchi.
They bade us farewell and we left.
Throughout our journey, I couldn’t help but think about what my mum told me. Even Oluch asked me why I became quiet as we left our house but I couldn’t come up with any reason.
My mind was made up. It was either I get married to Oluchi or I wouldn’t get married at all.
When my parents called; trying to make me pause the marriage preparations and try to find out about more about Oluchi, I swore to them that there was no going back.
Honestly, even though I was dating multiple ladies, it was Oluchi that I loved dearly.
When my parents knew that I wasn’t willing to bend, they decided to support me. They knew I was strong-headed and trying to stop me would be an impossible task
