The devil in me episode 7

THE DEVIL IN ME
EPISODE 7

I woke up the next day in my room, looking round as if was in the wrong room.

With sour mouth, dry throat a throbbing headache and pains all over my body as if I was among those who went for boxing contest.

I felt so empty, my tummy started grumbling, could that be hunger?

I felt like throwing up due to my sour mouth, my brain has not yet woken up fully because I kept glancing round the room untill my eyes caught the wall clock.

“Oh my gosh! What have I done to myself? It’s already past 8:am.”

I jumped out of my bed rushed to my bathroom, hastily brushed my teeth, there is no way I was going with this smelling mouth to lecture. Came out, opened my wardrobe, brought out a pair of jeans and black sweat shirt, put it on, got my black nike shoes and I rushed out with books in my hand, no need for backpack today.

My lectures began at 7:30 am, and here I was going by past eight. What has Ibudu done to me?

On getting to the lecture hall, lo and behold the man no one will ever want to have a fall out with, the great Prof. Richard. When I saw him, I knew I was in for a great day of trouble. I walked into the hall with my head bent low, I mumbled good morning sir as I was almost to my seat when the heavens got loose and Prof. Richard escaped.

“Young man, how may I help you? In fact who are you? How dare you walk in late to my class? Ooooh! It is son of the soil, Ikemba! Right now I’m in a very good mood but let this insult not ever repeat itself again! have I made myself clear?”

I answered yes sir!

“Nonsense! Imagine youths of this days so lazy that their lecturers have to come waiting for them to get to school before he teaches!”

Of cause, every one burst out laughing because it was funny to them but not to me. I walked with my tail in my legs to my seat, I was so embarrassed, all through the lecture I couldn’t concentrate.

Finally he ended the lecture with an announcement about a new text book which cost five thousand naira. I could breathe now because all through the lecture I have been holding my breath.

As if I have not had enough, I saw some one approaching me,

“Hey Ikemba! Whatsap bro.” I looked up and saw Tina standing in front of me and staring at me as if I have a missing head.

“Morning Tina!” I replied.

“Have a seat please.” she took a seat beside me. After some Tete’a’tete I decided to ask why she and her friend Adaobi have been avoiding me, looking confused in her part, I decided to tell her everything that has transpired between Adaobi and I.

“You don’t have to worry your self Ikemba, I will talk to Adaobi just give it time,” she advised me and also made me promise not to hurt her.

I literally, swore to Tina never to harm Adaobi in any way. We were so engrossed in our conversation that we didn’t notice a third person presence though she spotted us from afar,

“Tina please can we go to the next lecture hall now? I heard that voice, I knew why she wanted to leave the hall, having told Tina everything already she understood and said

“Okay,” but I told her there is no need as I was already leaving myself. Tina couldn’t just let this time pass so she decided to reconcile us back together.

Tina asked her what happened and why she is avoiding me. This girl is a female lawyer in her part as she delved into details of what happened which I couldn’t even remember myself. When she was done she vowed never to talk to me again, through out this narration she kept looking at me with a killer eyes.

I couldn’t remember anything so I just decided to be on a pleading side.

Finally she accepted my apologies after Tina talked to her about the benefits of forgiveness.

“Ikemba.” she said,

“I have forgiven you, I was mad at you for seeing alcoholic drink in your bag, my dad warned me never to have any thing doing with people who take alcohol because they are destiny destroyers.”

While she was talking, I couldn’t take my eyes off her, I noticed a glitter of tears in her eyes, I could not hold myself back, I just embraced her. I was surprised when she embraced me back and cried on my shoulder.

Having consoled her, Tina brought up a joke which made us laugh. She promised visiting me at my lodge. Feeling so excited I jumped up and embraced Tina for reconciling us back together again.

To be continued.
