“when is your holiday ending? “. my father asked.

“in 3 months time. ” I answered.

“okay, I’m traveling next tomorrow so, it’s possible I don’t come back before then. ” He said shaking his head to the rhythm of the song playing as he drives.

“I know you don’t like my absence at home. but, just know that Dad must work. if I don’t work I do I get to pay for your needs and moreover you’re not a boy anymore my son so, you should understand my nature of work.

I answered him telling him I’m not bothered at all but just needed him to give response to my questions.

“and what question is that? “. He asked trying to remember.

“the one we talked about two days ago at night in your library.

“oh, oh, oh! you mean about that girl called Vero….or what is that her name again?

“yes, Vero… Veronica “. I answered.

ehm, son, like I said earlier you’re not a boy anymore and you have every right to choose what is yours just like how you told me about your grandma told you about how I ended up with your mother. but, do you know that your grandma only said what she knows but doesn’t know I stood my ground against my mother when she kept torturing me to abstain from your mother infact……”

“really?”.

“yes son, infact I was punished and got starved when my mom refused given me my feeding money doing my University days. but, all these were not known by your mother as we continue love until she eventually succumb and accepted her after realizing the kind of girl she’s when your mother rescued one of my siblings who had an attacked due to asthma. so, you have to endure everything you are facing if you really know what you want.

“I understand dad. but, it seems mum is now really into Veronica these days as she always call her to come help her with one thing or the other and Ada no longer pick my calls nor reruns it.

“don’t mind your mother, that’s how women does, don’t let her dictate for you okay. and as for the Veronica well, I don’t really know what to say about her because I don’t know her. you can just be patience with her in other not to complicate things for Ada, I hope you understand me? “.

“sure Dad.” I answered.

“maybe I can talk to your mom about it. that, if she’s going to hear me out”. He said as he laughed and drives into our compound.

my father is the only one I can confide in at this point but, his absence do make me feel him most, whenever my mother and grandmother would not let me say when it comes to Vero matter. I wonder what she has done to gain much of their love and attention.

“I don’t think I can condone your negligence anymore Ada! how on Earth did you not realized the plugged straightener? when is not that you’re blind. I intentionally shouted at her .

“why are you talking like this Vero, you knew this is not the right place for you to plug it and moreover I’m not the one who spoilt it. you only met me here coincidentally thinking I spoiled it”. She said picking up the straightener and checking it as I snapped it away from her.

“you’re still lying Ada! why won’t you lie when your mind is not at one place anymore! you just changed all of a sudden and started destroying my things what….”

” what are you saying Vero?. She asked crying. I should be the one asking you, why you suddenly changed towards me. This is not the Vero I had ever known since I started living here. if you don’t judge me wrongly today, you would probably left me to myself all day without talking to me. Youou know longer share things with me like a sister. what did I do to you Vero? “. She asked in which I looked away.

“why are you two at it again? “. my elder brother asked looking at both of us.

“it’s better you tell Ada to stay off me! “. I said angrily walking out on them.

“come back here Vero! “. my brother called and refused answering him.

I don’t know what to do again because even with the fact that Kingsley mother and grandmother is so into me, he is still not ready to give in to me, and I know it’s because of Ada.

“I think I have to make a plan. yes! a plan could shattered his heart from her. good! wow, Vero! you’re a smart girl!!! yes!. I said excitedly increasing the volume of my CD player as I dance to the hip-hop song I have been playing.

my grandma is going back to the village today and it felt as if is some sort of freedom to me. infact she was surprised seeing my lightening mood since yesterday when she announced her going for today. I helped her with her luggage inside the booth of the Uber as she prepared to leave.

“I’m gonna miss you “. I said jokingly but within me I don’t think I would.

“or, should I stay back for a while? “. She asked in which I quickly answered telling her not to bother as her village people might really be missing her absence.

“I thought you said you’re going to miss me so….”

“don’t worry Mama fashion, I will miss you yes, but not for you to stay back.” I said as they both laughed.

“mama, I wish you journey mercy “. my mother said as she entered the Uber bidding us goodbye.

“make sure you call me ooo obi when you returned to school so that I can speak with you and my daughter in-law”. She said with her head out of the back sit glass.

“of course! but not with Vero!”. I answered in which the car is already gone.

“why did you say not with Vero?.” my mother asked as I ignored her and went inside.

“did you just walked out on me Kingsley!”. She said behind me.

I sat on the sitting room couch and opened my phone and saw a message from Vero asking if I can come to her house immediately that a birthday party is being thrown for Ada. I jumped up in excitement and was surprised on why Vero could solidly invited me over to her house because of Ada.

“could it be that Ada begged her to invite me or she just wants me there to show off to Ada.

“what is it? “. My mother asked.

I told her what Vero said as she smiled and said it shows how caring and true love she has for me.

I ignored her words as I hurried inside my room and dressed to Kil l in other to attract Ada and probably make sure I have a dance with her. I dashed back to the sitting room as my mother looked in awe.

“you look so handsome son, is all this for Vero? “. she asked again in which I wasn’t bother to say anything to her at all since she can’t say a word without mentioning Vero.

I entered a cab and headed to Vero house as she kept calling to know if I’m closed by. I stopped at a junction where a lady stood and waited for me telling me Vero sent her to come pick me.

Arriving at her house it’s truly a birthday party as I saw people dancing with decorations everywhere. I was skeptical of seeing Ada as I looked around searching for her when a hand tapped my back.

“hi handsome “. I turned back and It was Vero.

“where’s the birthday girl?. I asked smiling.

“don’t you even want to greet me?. She said angrily as I apologise immediately.

“well, she’s in a her room I think dressing up Sha. She said.

she pointed to a direction of a room telling me to go there and knock that she’s inside. I hurried away amidst the people and went straight to the said room and knocked.

there was no response. I knocked again calling Ada and still no response.

I then realized the door knob is not locked as I opened the door excitedly calling on Ada as my face dropped immediately in shocked.

“Ada!!.” I called but she’s not hearing me as her head is facing another side. I felt so sad and heartbroken at that moment.

A guy is un top of her having s*x with her. immediately the guy saw me he shouted at me to excuse him in which I walked up to in angrily and landed a heavy blow on his face.

“what is going on? “.

Vero walked inside the room seeing me fighting the strange guy.

“Kingsley stop it!.” She shouted I didn’t answer her as we continue to fight scattering everywhere.

“Desmond, stop that crap and get the f**k out of here right now!” She shouted at the guy in which he left me walking out immediately.

“you caused this shit!.” He said to Vero angrily holding on to his trouser and shoe.

I ran to Ada who’s still laying in the bed without moving. I became shocked as to what is really happening. I turned her face and realized she has been unconscious while the Stu pid boy has his way into her.

“Ada! Ada!!!

No response, I carried her on my lap as she recked of alcohol. Vero came nearer in which I shouted at her.

“what the hell did you do to her!!!”. I asked angrily.

She step back from me as she sees my angry face.

“why will you be asking me such questions Kingsley, when she should be the one answering you. how on Earth do you want me to know what is going on!! “. She said in which her friend came to whispered something to her as she went back to the sitting room shouting

“party is over! party is over!! everybody go home!!!.”

I carried Ada and went towards the bathroom and entered placing her in the bathtub while I switched on the shower as it pours on her.

“she will be alright”. Vero said behind me.

I looked at her disgustingly.

“you can’t tell me you know nothing about what just happened to her Vero? you lured me here to come witness this right? you’re a big fool Vero!!!! just pray nothing happens to her, I bet with you with my life that you will ever regret knowing me.

“come on you are taking this too far, at least if she wakes up you can ask her yourself. she was just having fun and probably drank excess of alcoholic.

“don’t tell me that! you can tell me she only drank alcohol to be unconscious like this. you have probably mixed something with it. I don’t trust you Vero! “. I said in annoyance almost giving her blow.

I took out my phone and called my mother and explained what happened to her.

“leave that place right now Kingsley! “. she said shouting.

“why should I leave mom, I’m telling you they got Ada drugged and you’re telling me to….”

“don’t question me son! enough of your procastination and get back home right now, or else you will see me there what…..”

I ended the call on her as I see it as wasted effort. my mother would never thought of believing me for once. Vero couldn’t come closer as she stood at far watching me. I carried Ada out of the water and lay her on the bed and lay down with her.

“so, are you gonna sleep here?”. She asked.

“is there anything wrong there?”. I asked.

“but, Kingsley while are you torturing me for loving you? why do you prefer her to me even for the fact that she has opened up to you that she is no more interested in you.

“please leave me alone Vero, I have told you countless times that I don’t love you that I only love Ada so….”

“why will you love her ? why? can’t I be loved? or you have forgotten how we were back then in school, the love and time I devoted for you, those moments I stay awake all night solving your assignment just for you, I tried every means to gain your love but you kept turning me down. Even for the fact that your mother even loved me and accepted me as your girlfriend but, still you refused giving in to me. so, what else do you want me to do to gain your love”. She said crying behind the door.

I stood up and goes closer to her telling her I and Ada has been having our affairs right from the village even with so many encounter that I wouldn’t like to share with her.

“so, please just let me be, I know very soon you might see someone that will love you more than your expectations.” I said trying to calm her as she walked out in tears closing the door.

I know she had always been there for me but, what she’s really expecting from me is what I’m not ready to give in. I looked at Ada as I touched her hair and rubbing her face.

Some hours later

My mother kept calling in which I ignored her call. Ada turned over and opened her eyes yawning, I checked the time and his 2:44pm.

“who’s this?”. She asked sitting up covering her body.

I told her not to be scared that I’m the one.

“obi, what are you doing here? what happened to me? is the party over?

She was looking around repeatedly and jumped down from the bed staggering as she has not really being off fully from the alcohol.

“do you know you can be in trouble for staying here with me? where’s Vero?”. She asked hurrying out from the room as I followed her telling her to calm down.

I thought my plan would work, but it seems he knew I planned it. they refused coming out from the room ever since or is she de ad?

I peeked out from the sitting room looking towards her room as the door suddenly opened and I balance back on the chair pretending to be sleeping.

“Vero! Vero!! “. I heard her calling me as I pretended to be sleeping.

“let her be, she’s sleeping”. Kingsley said.

“why’s the party over so soon I thought it supposed to end by 6pm

“is it not your birthday party?. He asked.

“which birthday? my birthday is November which is two months to come”. She answered

“are you sure?”. He asked.

“of course, why won’t I know my birthday.” She answered laughing.

“oh, now I see and it looks so glaring to me now, Ada I think you will need to follow me to my house.”

“to do what?”. She asked.

“you need to come see my mother…….”

“for what? “. I asked standing up.

“Vero, I thought you were sleeping.”. She said coming closer to me as I pushed her away.

“you this freaking a*s girl, you suddenly came to my life and decided to ruin it right, don’t worry I know what to do with you.” I said stumbling out of the sitting room to my room sobbing.

I don’t want her to have Kingsley to herself, it’s better he go for someone else than her because I can’t tolerate seeing both of them together.

“what should I do now, oh yes! let me call my father and rope her so that he can send her back to the village or anywhere, because right now, I don’t care about her.

“hello Vero…..”

I started crying profusely.

“I’m dying dad, I can’t take this anymore. Ada has really changed, she also plotted with a guy to rape me!

“what!!!” are you serious about this Vero? where’s your brother? when did you two start this hatred towards one another?.

“I don’t know dad, just get the hell out of her a*s out from this house or else I will ki ll myself right now!!

I shouted at him over the phone as I knew what my father can do immediately. He doesn’t joke with any of his children, even my late mother could go extra miles in granting our desire back then.

I lay flat on the bed waiting for my father next action, I know Ada can never follow Kingsley because of my father, so right now I’m ready to kick her off my way.

I left Vero house sad as Ada was adamant of not following me. my mother was about entering her car when I entered our compound.

“why are you doing this to me Kingsley? I have called you severally. why is Vero not picking her call too or…..”

“mom please and please can you keep Vero name out of your mouth”. I said angrily as she opened the door.

I entered and sat on the couch with my head down in thought. my mother squat at my front and asked me to please tell her what happened, I then explain everything to her as she looks so surprised.

“as it gotten to that extent Kingsley? why will Vero do such, I think you should find a way to help Ada from her because she might do more than that to her”. She said as I looked at her in surprised like, is it my mother telling me this right now.

“I didn’t know Vero is that kind of a girl, Ada doesn’t warrant all that.” She said hugging me as I cried.

“but why is you and Grandma not accepting her? why is grandma adamant against my relationship with her?”. I asked.

“it okay my son, it’s not like your grandma doesn’t want you to love her it’s just that……”

I sat at the front of Vero father and her brothers.

“I have tried enough for you Ada, and I think this is the right time for you to be on your own”. Her father said.

“but, sir I’m still on my final year project which is some months time to finish please I ……”

“Ada, you should be grateful that he has helped you to this stage at least your mother will be happy in heaven that he has really tried for you”. Vero brother said smiling at me.

I was told to packed my bags yesterday, I never knew this is what it meant. so, I will be leaving this house now. ” I said looking around the house as tears flows down my cheeks.

Vero father requested that I should eat first before going as he handed me an envelope (money) to use and care for my well being if possible I’m desiring to go back to the village.

I knew quite well that my uncle is not this type of a person, this could be as a result of Vero manipulation, she has lied on me so that I can leave in other to have Kingsley to herself. I looked at Vero who is standing at the dining table with the cook dishing out food for us to eat. I went up to her and drag her to my room as she flip my hands away angrily.

“I hate you!” . She said walking out on me.

I went back to the sitting room carrying my luggage and didn’t bother to eat as I made my way to the door.

“are you not eating?”. Her father asked as I shakes my head signifying no.

“alright then, my regards to your father”. He said as I closed the door behind them.

I stood at the front of their house when I began to think of where I could go. I decided to call obi in which he picked and I told him I have been sent out packing. He asked of where I am telling me to stay there that he is coming.

In less than some minutes I saw him running from the other side of the road wanting to cross. I waved my hands up signifying where I’m as he ran towards me.

“be careful!”. I said in which he suddenly hugged me tightly.

“don’t worry! my home is opened for you”. He said holding unto me as I hugged him back.

As we made our way to cross the road, A voice came from behind calling on Kingsley as we heard a clash of cars as some people screamed. immediately we crossed back to the other side where people are gathered. I saw Vero in a pool of blo od in between the cars.

“Vero!!!

I screamed as Kingsley covered my mouth immediately.

“let leave this place!.” obi said dragging me back to cross the road.
