MY JOURNEY AS A SINGLE MOTHER.
Part 13.
By Authoress Rhoda.
I couldn’t help but glorify Abba for granting mummy quick recovery.
Well, when I thought my prayers were answered, little did I know that mummy was still going to die.
I could vividly remember one night she called Esther and told her a lot. She also called me. The two of us were with mummy that night. In fact, when the twins eventually woke up, she carried them and sang for them. I didn’t know that was the last time I was going to see her.
“Esther and Bisi.” She called.
We responded immediately.
“I don’t want the two of you to separate from each other. I want you to keep the bond of friendship between you, intact and stronger. The two of you are really meant for each other. Yes, to fulfill what God has committed into your hands. God really brought you together for a reason. So, being friends wasn’t a mistake.
Whenever you have disagreement(s), I want the two of you to settle it amicably and as soon as possible. I don’t want the devil to enter into this friendship.” She said.
We promised to keep being best of friends.
“Bisi, I want you to know that all that ever happened to you happened for a purpose. I believe very soon, you will understand better. I want you to take good care of your children.
They are your treasures. In fact, they are not just ordinary children. They are going to be very great to the extent that the man who raped you will come begging, just to have a chance in their lives. And in fact, the two of you may end up… “She said.
” God forbid!” I shouted.
” Marry Gbolahan? Over my de.ad body will that happen. Gbolahan doesn’t know about my whereabouts. He doesn’t know if I’m still alive or dead. In fact, he isn’t aware that I gave birth to his children. Who knows, he may even deny that he didn’t impregnate me. Mummy, don’t say that again.” I said as I was sweeting profusely trying to drive out my points.
“Well, I have said my own o. Whether you end up with him or not, just find a place in your heart to forgive anyone who offends or have offended you before.
That reminds me, Bisi. I want you to really train your children in the way of the Lord. My Father has a great plan for them and this can only be possible if you show them Christ as early as possible before the devil penetrates into their innocent hearts through their teachers or even peer groups.
Also, I really want the two of you to fulfill purpose in life. My purpose on earth is to help the helpless. My purpose in life is to impact lives. I am 100% sure that I have fulfilled my purpose to some extent.
In fact, Bisi, I took you in because of my passion to help young people. I am always fulfilled putting smiles on the faces of people who thought they will never smile again due to the challenges of life.” She said.
To be sincere, Esther’s mum really tried. In fact, the number of people that trooped into the hospital to visit her was something that really made me confused. When she was discharged, many people came to her apartment to check on her.
Those people who came to visit her in the hospital and even when she was discharged were the people she once helped.
If not for her, I wouldn’t be who I am today. Even when my biological parents forsook me, she filled the vacuum. I wonder where I would have been if not for her. She was God sent to me.
Many people raised their voices to God to spare mummy’s life when she was still in the hospital. I felt death was far from her despite all our prayers. But, that night, she didn’t give us any sign that she was going to die. But…
“Bisi and Esther, everything in life is vanity.” She said as she sipped her fruit juice.
“Exactly mummy. Everything is vain.” I replied almost immediately.
“If you look at King Solomon in the Bible, he had almost everything. He enjoyed life to its fullest. He married a lot of women. In fact, he was wealthy. But, could you believe that despite all he had enjoyed on earth, he made us to understand that everything is vanity of vanities, all is vanity.
The funniest part of it all is that there is no man that has power over the spirit to retain the spirit. No man has the power in the day of death to say “death, go back, I am not ready to die now.” Once it comes, everything you’ve ever gotten on earth remains on earth.
As a matter of fact, you came to this world n***d. So, you are going in that form. When you get to heaven, God will never ask how many houses you built while you were alive. God will never ask how many certificates you acquired when you were alive. God will never ask you how many cars you rode while on earth.
But, God shall bring every work into judgment. He will give you your final result. Result of being a faithful steward or an unfaithful steward on earth. That is where living for God in this corrupt world comes in. That is where serving God with a perfect heart comes in. Not only that, your PURPOSE IN LIFE.
Dear, I want you to know according to what was written in the book of Ecclesiastics 8:3, that TO EVERY PURPOSE, THERE IS TIME AND JUDGMENT.
If you fail to do that which God has called you to do, remember judgment awaits you. Remember, purpose is time bound. You can’t fulfill your purpose in the grave and you don’t know when death will knock at the door. So, rise up and do that which God has commanded you to do.
My children, I also don’t want you to forget that whatsoever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might. If you want to serve God, serve Him with all your might. If you want to excel in all areas of your life, do all with all your might. Don’t be a lazy type.
In all that you do, I need you to always remember God, the giver of wisdom, because you need Him. You need wisdom as well because wisdom is better than weapons of war. Wisdom of God will make your face to shine. Yes!
Don’t forget to do good to everyone that comes your way.
Yes, if you die, what will you be remembered for? Remember you are not taking anything along with you to the grave, but if you leave, what will people say about you.
I want you to know that a good name is better than all your earthly possessions. People giving testimonies of how God has used you for them when you were alive is better than being wealthy without touching lives positively.
My children, may God direct your paths. May He grant you all your heart desires. May you be a that God has ordained you to be. In fact, gentiles shall come to your light and kings to the brightness of your rising. Maritally, you will not miss it. Amen.” She said as she told us she wanted to go to bed.
She handled over Taiwo to me and gave Kehinde to Esther.
We really thanked her for her time despite the fact that she was just recovering from her injuries.
After some time, the two of us went back to our room and slept off.
The following day, around 8:00 am, we expected mummy to be awake. We thought she was still yet to be awake due to the fact that she spoke to us deep into the night.
We ate our breakfast, daddy cracked jokes with us. Yet, as at 12:00pm, mum was yet to be awake.
“I gave your mum my normal kiss this morning, but she didn’t respond. I allowed her to be because I didn’t want to disturb her sleep. One thing keep telling me my wife is gone…” Daddy said.
“God forbid!!!” The two of us shouted. We rushed to where mum was, only to confirm by ourselves that she was truly dead.
My world crumbled.
Esther shed tears, in fact it was as if her eyes were going to fall from its sockets.
Dad was sorrowful.
“Ladies, mummy has gone to be with the Lord. Though she died at the age of 55, yet, her life was well spent. It’s not all about how long you live on earth. We all don’t pray to die prematurely. But, this one life we have, we must make it count. Whether you are going to live long on earth or not, make your life count. Live a fruitful and productive life. My wife lived her life well. Bukun…mi, I will forever miss you.” Dad cried.
