Just like every other morning, I began my day by kneeling beside my bed for a brief prayer. But amid my silent pleas, I heard my phone ring.

Despite my attempts to ignore it, the call persisted, interrupting my prayer and forcing me to pick it up. I reached for the phone on top of the nearby cabinet and discovered it was my lawyer calling. With a sigh, I answered the call.

“Good morning, Barrister Gift,” I greeted rubbing my forehead exhaustively.

“Good morning, Mrs. Vivian,” the voice on the other end responded.

“My apologies. I was in the middle of my prayer when your calls came in, hence why I couldn’t answer right away,” I explained, rising to my feet.

“Oh, that’s not a problem, Mrs. Vivian. I understand,” she replied.

“Thank you. However, Isn’t it time you began addressing me as Miss instead of Mrs?,” I stated lowering myself on my bed.

“I’m sorry, but that change will only take effect once the court officially dissolves your marriage with your husband. So, for now, you are still a Mrs. With that being said, I called to remind you of your scheduled appearance in court today. I hope you are preparing for it,” she asked.

Upon hearing this, a sudden wave of weakness came upon me.

“Yes, I… I… am fully aware of my court appearance today,” I replied with trembling words, my gaze fixed on the wedding ring adorning my finger. It all felt like yesterday.

“That’s good to hear. See you in court then,” she said.

“Okay, see you in court,” I responded calmly, and the call ended abruptly.

Yes, that’s correct. I am Vivian, a 32-year-old mother of three adorable children. I am a black, bold, beautiful, and hardworking businesswoman, and today will officially mark
the end of my seven-years marriage to Kennedy my beloved husband. It’s really heartbreaking to know that our marriage will be officially dissolved in court today.

I know by now you may be wondering about what went wrong and how we reached this point. However, the truth remains that It is entirely my fault that my marriage has come to this, and it all began because of one dangerous element that awakened within me and that is, “MY DESIRES.”

(Flashback)

Seven years ago.

Just like any other bride-to-be, I was filled with joy on the night before my wedding to Kennedy.

I and my closest friends and bridesmaids were all celebrating and having a great time in my hotel room, celebrating my last night as a spinster. The room was filled with cakes, music, drinks, and everything that makes a bridal shower party fun and exhilarating.

My bridesmaids were clad in red nightgowns while I wore an exquisite, sleeveless, and short white dress adorned with a sash boldly proclaiming “BRIDE TO BE.” Additionally, there was a sparkling tiara perched upon my head, distinguishing me as the queen of the day.

Amid the pre-wedding festivities, my maid of honor, Alex, who also happened to be my closest friend, drew my attention to a persistent caller on my mobile phone.

Speculating that it might be one of the wedding guests or probably someone requiring urgent attention, I excused myself from the bustling atmosphere and stepped into the bathroom to answer the call.

“Hello…,” I greeted the mysterious caller, eager to decipher his or her identity through their voice.

But the caller remained mute.

“Hello…please, who is this?” I inquired over and over again but I got no response from the caller.

With anger, I was about to end the call when suddenly, I heard a familiar voice answer,

“Hi, Vivian. It’s me,” The voice calmly said.

Immediately, I recognized the caller to be Daniel my ex-boyfriend whom I had deleted and blocked his numbers after we parted ways six months ago.

“Daniel?,” I softly called out in disbelief.

“Yes, Vivian. I am glad you still recognize my voice,” He said.

“And why are you calling me?” I asked utterly curious.

“Congratulations. I heard you are getting married tomorrow, ” He said.

“Seriously? How in the world did you find out?” I asked, seething with anger but keeping my voice low.

“I have my sources, Vivian,” he calmly replied.

“Well, thank you for your unnecessary congratulations. But this will be the first and last time you ever call this number again. Are we clear?” I warned.

“Can we meet up?” he suddenly proposed, leaving me speechless.

“What did you just say?” I asked, utterly confused.

“Listen, Vivian. I understand that I’ve deeply hurt you in the past, but I’ve realized that we should address our past issues now before you walk down the aisle” he explained.

“What?!” I scoffed, unable to believe what I was hearing. “Are you insane? Address what exactly? Daniel, listen we are over and I’m marrying someone else tomorrow morning.”

“Vivian, I’m fully aware of your upcoming wedding, and I’m genuinely happy for you. But I can’t let you walk down the aisle without clearing the misconceptions you have about me. I owe you an explanation for my past behavior. Believe me, I only want a chance to talk to you, nothing more,” he expressed sincerely.

“Are you out of your mind? How could you ask this of me, knowing that meeting you could endanger my marriage? Who exactly sent you, Daniel?” I asked, filled with anger and irritation.

“Vivian, please, just this once, okay? I promise not to take up much of your time, and I’ve made it easy for you to meet me. I’ve booked a room in the same hotel where your bridal shower is taking place,” he explained.

“You did what?!” I exclaimed in astonishment.

“Yes, Vivian I’m currently staying in room 112,” he informed.

“Daniel, are you out of your mind? How did you get to know my current location? Wait a second, are you stalking me?” I questioned, in shock and fear.

“No, Vivian. I have my ways of figuring these things out, remember? But, more importantly, we need to have a conversation. I promise that if you agree to meet me, I will disappear from your life forever,” he assured.

“Daniel, you must be insane to ask for such an impossible thing from me,” I replied.

“Trust me, Vivian. It’s not as impossible as you think. Nevertheless, if you prefer, I could come to you instead,” he offered.

“Jesus Christ! Daniel, do you want to ruin my wedding? Don’t you even think about attempting that,” I warned.

“Alright then. I will be anticipating your arrival. If you don’t show up within ten minutes, I might have no choice but to come to where you are,” he hinted.

“Is this some kind of threat?” I asked, taken aback.

“The decision is yours, Vivian. I believe you are smart enough to make the right choice. I will see you soon,” he said.

He abruptly ended the call, leaving me speechless and uncertain about my next move.
