CAMPUS FELLOWSHIP ON FIRE
CHAPTER TWO
Linda was in her house, preparing to make her first appearance at the fellowship. When she was done with her heavy makeup, she admired herself in the mirror. “Those ignorant church folks won’t know what hit them.” She laughed, picked her bag and left.

“Sister Lara, haba! Do fast now. Do you want us to be late to church again today ni? I will ditch you and go alone o.”
Sister Comfort was already getting pissed at her friend who always made them both go late to church every Sunday.
They both stayed in the same compound in their hostel on campus. And since they were in the same level and department, they got along well and did all manner of things together.
“Pele my dear, I don’t know why this turban is refusing to cooperate with my face this morning oh. I want to try a new style I saw on Instagram that’s why.” Lara said, untying the turban only to retie it again, this only aggravated her friend the more. Noticing the sheer displeasure in her friend’s countenance, she knew the one thing that would get her curious and excited.
“Ehnehn, Comfort, did you notice that Sister Shade’s skin is looking lighter this semester?”
“Hmm. I thought I was the only one o. It seems bleaching creams must be really cheap in the market now o. Abeg o, after everything, she fine?”
She spread forth her hands before her, asking no one in particular. “If you see the way Sister Laide now snubs everybody, just because she managed to grab the son of a business tycoon.” She continued, with a mixture of pain and envy.
“Levels don change nah. What do you expect? She no dey your level again. Orishirishi! Do you know if she has even started sleeping with him?!” Lara said in a loud whisper.
“Wetin Musa no go see for gate? Comfort can you hear me…?” She wanted to be sure she had her friend’s full attention.
Comfort had to move closer as Lara spoke in hushed tones.
“I saw Bro Fola, the Evangelism secretary yesterday o. He still wears his signature look o. His over-sized trousers and agbada-like shirt to match. I even heard he has tried his luck with three different sisters, but had gotten a sharp ‘No’ for answer. They didn’t even bother praying about it.”
“Habaaa! Now that is just pure wickedness.” Comfort tried to hold her laughter but she couldn’t help it as her smiling face gave her away. “Ahnahn, o wrong now. Why will you be talking about an Exco in that manner Lara? Me I’m not there o, I’m just a concerned member.” She said, raising her hands in mock surrender and stepping back a few steps.
“Peleee, I can see why you’re in publicity unit.” Lara jested her friend. They high-fived each other with both hands laughing.
~×~
“Ahnahn, Sister Christie!”
On hearing her name, she turned to look at her caller. She couldn’t make out the face from afar, but she could recognize the familiar umbrella-like shirt and baggy trousers her caller wore, and was certain it was Fola, the Evangelism cord of the fellowship.
Bro Fola jogged to catch up with her and was already panting and sweating when reached her. “At last! The lady stops!” He said, regulating his breathing. “I’ve called out your name like five good times, you didn’t even look back. “Did I offend you?”
“Ah, Fola, haba, you know I’m not like that. I never heard anyone calling me so I did not pay attention.” She said without remorse.
They had history. He had proposed to her before they went on break for the session. She had put him in the waiting room, saying God is yet to give her any confirmation, again she thought his choice of clothes and combination of colours were just disastrous. But ever since the proposal, she had removed the “Bro” and just called him by name, even though he was much older.
What Bro Fola didn’t know, was that Sister Christie was putting him on hold, hoping that the Prayer cord of the house, Bro Moses, would notice her. In fact she was not the only one, over forty percent of sisters in the same Campus Fellowship were secretly hoping and praying that the Prayer cord would notice them.
So unknown to Bro Fola, he was like a standby generator in case there was power failure. She just hoped he would give up and stop pestering her.
“So Sister Christie, hope you haven’t forgotten what we discussed? I’m yet
to get a reply from you.” Bro Fola continued, hoping to get a positive reply at last and because of the way she was walking so fast, he had to run at some points to catch up with her.
“See, Fola, this is certainly not the time nor place to discuss such a sensitive matter as this. Let’s meet after the service.” She waved him off, quickening her pace again.
