Episode 3
The Possessed🪄
Since I confirmed the authenticity of my powers, nothing else gives me joy than inflicting pains on my dad.
Firstly, I destroyed all his tapes and this gave him tough time measuring out yams for mom.
Then I made holes in all his measuring cups and this left him with no option than using a bigger one for a while.
Whenever I walked in on him trying to lock the store, I caused friction to the padlocks. I will then lean back and watch him struggle to pin it. I won’t release it until I have had enough silent laugh.
I made one hen sick, anytime I crave for chicken and he would not have any other options than telling mom to kill it and make stew with it.
One time, he was inside the store counting seasoning cube into a container, I made a crate fall from the shelf and hit his bald hair. He hit his buttock on the floor as he screamed in pains.
All these gave me inner joy.
After Pauline (that was the name of the girl with the apple) taught me how to go invisible,
I added stealing to my adventures.
I stole my dad’s money every night before I go to bed in his presence and bought myself any snacks of my choice in school without kambili seeing me.
I smiled anytime I overheard him complaining to mom that his money always goes missing.
“You need to check well”. I will always hear mom advising him.
Another time he was in the bathroom, I made him slipped and fell, hitting his head hard on the bathtub. He screamed and mom rushed in to check on him.
That day, he left for work, forgetting to lock the store. Before he could come back later for it, Kambili and I had taken out enough provisions to last us the whole day.
One time I had made him very sick with the motive that he won’t have the strength to measure out food for us, but then I had to revive him again after two days because he burdened my mom so much with the sickness.
I used my powers mostly at home (on dad), except on two occasions that called for desperate measures in school.
The first was the day my teacher, Mrs Uzor, punished me for a crime I didn’t commit. Though, I wasn’t the only one involved. We were like five boys she made to crawl from the school gate to the classroom because someone told her we jumped out through the window.
She wouldn’t even allow me defend myself. Well, I promised to make her pay.
And she really did.
She didn’t show up in school the following week. We heard she had arthritis.
That served her right.
The second ocasion was the day I was bullied by a senior boy. I was walking on my own when he back heeled me and I tripped over and fell. He and his friends had a good laugh at me.
On their way home that afternoon, I made them run into a ditch with their bicycle. One broke his leg and was hospitalized for weeks.
Apart from kambili who had once playfully asked how I got the mark on my forehead, no one else noticed the changes in me.
And I didn’t give her any answer because queen mother had warned me never to say a word of what we do to anyone, not even my sister.
I was enjoying my new power, until the night I was asked to do the unthinkable…
What have I gotten myself into?
