My journey as a single mother episode 8

MY JOURNEY AS A SINGLE MOTHER.

Part 8

By Authoress Rhoda.

I was really enjoying my sleep when I heard my name being called by Dami.

“Bisi!!!” She called.

I thought it was actually my usual dream. I decided not to respond. I never knew my friend was in pain.

I was still asleep when my phone rang. It looked very strange.

I woke up immediately. I didn’t even check who the caller was because I heard my friend groaning in pain.

“Dami, what happened to you?” I asked. In fact, I can’t explain how sleep ran away from my eyes.

“Dami, what is this? You are bleeding? Are you menstru.ating? Even if you are menstru.ating, it can’t become a pool of blood at once. What happen?” I asked, as I was inspecting her body. She was bleeding from her pri.vate pa.rt.

I was very shocked to my marrow because she was really bleeding. I asked her questions, she wasn’t answering me. I couldn’t take it anymore because the bleeding didn’t stop.

” Dami, are you deaf? Am I not talking to you? Can’t you answer me? “I asked.

She still kept quiet.

” Well, I think I will allow you to die since you can’t talk to me. I won’t do anything, in fact I won’t take you to the hospital if you don’t talk. You will rather die there since you choose to be deaf all of a sudden.” I said as I climbed my bed.

“Dami, please I will talk. Please, just take me to the hospital.” She finally said when she knew I was serious.

I became destabilized because I didn’t know who to call that would convey us to the hospital in the middle of the night.

I remembered the associate coordinator of my fellowship. He had a car. I picked my phone without much thought and dialled his number.

It went through, but he wasn’t picking his call. I became more confused.

“That reminds me, what did you say happened to you?” I asked out of frustration. Many thoughts were running through my mind.

“Bisi, I committed abortion.” She finally confessed.

I wasn’t ready to interrogate her further because she was losing much blood.

“Give your life to Christ, you will not. Don’t sleep with your lecturer, you will not listen. Now, see. See what is happening. Who will come to our aid this midnight?” I said.

To cut the whole long story short, my coordinator returned the call. I told him everything. Before I could say” jack”, he was already at our place.

We rushed her to the hospital.

On getting there, we were told 50:50. That is, she might survive and she might not survive.

I was scared of losing her.

I went to a corner and began to pray for her. My associate coordinator too joined me in prayer.

Funny enough, we were told there was insufficient blood in the blood bank. She needed blood urgently, in the middle of the night. I told them I was ready to donate my blood. After carrying out tests, I was made to understand that my blood wasn’t compatible with her own.

“Who will donate blood?” I asked no one in particular.

She was dying.

The doctor tried his best.

I placed a call across to her mother. There was no response.

I sent a message to her. After 30 minutes, she returned the call. I explained everything to her.

Her mummy bursted into tears. She couldn’t believe everything. It was as if she should fly to the hospital, but it wasn’t possible.

When it was dawn, she came to the hospital. Immediately she saw her daughter, she passed out.

She was brought back to life.

She couldn’t believe that her own daughter could abort pregnancy. She couldn’t believe her own fervent daughter could have se.x with a man.

There was no improvement in Dami’s health. To be sincere, I thought she was going to die.

I went to her sick bed.

“Dami, I wish you didn’t abort that pregnancy. Well, you’ve done that. But, what if you die, I am 100% sure that you are in pains. I’m sure you are in hell right now. Will you like to leave this world and still enter another hell? For how long will you continue in pain? I don’t want you to go to hell fire. Are you ready to give your life to Christ so that you can have eternal rest?” I asked

“Bisi, I’m in hell. It’s as if I’m going to die. I don’t think God will ever forgive me because I have failed him. I have disappointed Him. Let me die and go to hell. I have failed him. My destiny has been ruined.” She said, in tears.

“Dami, please, God still love you. God’s arms are widely open, ready to accept you back as His daughter. Please, I don’t want you to go to hell.” I said trying to convince her.

I noticed that she was deeply in pain. She was dying. She was very weak.

She looked at her mum and shed another tears. Her mother too was deeply in tears.

” Mummy, I have failed you. I have disappointed you. I am so sorry, mummy.” She said weekly.

“It’s okay, just be fine.” Her mother said. She left the ward and went to the doctor’s office.

Damilola was dying. I knew I needed to act very fast because I didn’t want her to end up in hell fire.

“Dami, say after me. Lord Jesus, I come to you today…” I said expecting her to say it after me.

“Lord Je. s. u. s, Oh, I can’t bear this pain anymore.” She said.

“Dami, that is not what I asked you to say. I know you are in pains, but I want you to confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is your saviour. Now, say after me. Jesus, forgive me all my sins…” I said.

“J. e. s. u….” She said.

“You can say this darling. Please talk. Say it.” I said.

No response from her.

She gave up the ghost.

I let out a wild cry that made the doctor and her mum rush inside the ward.

The doctor checked her and said “I’m sorry, we lost her.”

Her mother fainted immediately.

I was rolling on the floor.

“Oh no!!!!”

“It shall not be well with that lecturer, Mr Komolafe or what are they calling him.” I said.

Mr Komolafe killed my friend.

Mr. Komolafe gave my friend an expired medication for abortion.

No wonder, he paid her huge amount of money. She didn’t know that the money won’t be enjoyed by her. Her dreams, truncated. Her destiny, truncated.
