The past final chapter.
Oluchi did not only deal with me, she made my life m!serable. She murdered the peace in my life and made me regret ever getting married in the first place.
She would come to the public and display acts of affection, but whenever we got home, it was different.
One month after our wedding, she seized my phone and made sure I didn’t pick calls that she didn’t want.
One day, I was on my way to the market to buy foodstuffs when I met a longtime friend.
“Jo, my man. How far na”
“Mekus man, how are you doing? I heard you got married recently?”
“Yes oo. I got married. ”
He persuaded me to join him and have some drinks in the nearby restaurant. At first, I hesitated because I didn’t want my wife to ask why I came back late.
As we were drinking , the issue of my marriage came up again. I tried telling him what I was going through in my marriage, but on a second thought, I remembered my wife’s warning.
“Joe, my wife is the most caring and thoughtful lady I’ve ever seen. In fact, I thank God daily for giving her to me, “I showered praises on my wife.
To avoid further questions, I changed the topic of our discussion so that I wouldn’t be tempted to tell him what I’ve been experiencing.
I became a shadow of myself, and when my parents asked if I was alright. I simply told them that my business was experiencing a little setback.
They both kept encouraging me by always assuring me that things would get better till one fateful day.
I was washing her clothes before we heard a loud knock on the door. I wanted to go and get the door, but she ordered me to go and continue what I was doing.
She thought it was one of my friends. She’d warned me earlier that she doesn’t want any of my friends to come visiting.
As she opened the door, lo and behold. It was my parents and a lanky man, clad in white robe.
“Good day, mum, and dad. What a pleasant surprise. You didn’t inform us that both of you were going to visit today, “she said to them.
“Where is our son”, my father howled at her.
Immediately I heard their voices, I ran out like a little puppy into my mother’s arm. She embraced me and told me she knew what I was facing.
According to her, my gate man who had been living with me even before I married my wife, tracked down where my parents lives and spilled the beans.
He specifically told them that if they didn’t make plans to rescue me, I would be de.ad in a matter of months.
What I witnessed on that day was scary. The encounter between my wife and the pastor was fierce but at the end, she left my house.
I was finally free but not entirely free because since then, I have been afraid of getting married or approaching any woman.
