CAMPUS FELLOWSHIP ON FIRE
CHAPTER 11
(The Confession)

“Sister Linda, you’re being worried over nothing. Seriously! I put it to you, that this is nothing but the confusion of the enemy.”

Once again, Linda was in President Gbile’s office. With a determined spirit, she came to the fellowship grounds earlier than usual for the Monday Bible study..

“President, I’m being totally honest with you right now. I’m from the Marine kingdom sir! And I’m on a mission! And if they ever find out I told you this, they’ll kill me!” She confessed. She wanted to let the heavy weight off her chest.

She bowed her head and was fumbling with her handbag nervously, she couldn’t bring herself to stare at the President in the eye.

Linda heard something that sounded like laughter. Maybe it came from outside. she thought.
When the sound came again, she knew she couldn’t have been mistaken.
Raising her head, she was confused.

“Ah! President, you’re laughing?” She thought she was going to cry. It was obvious President Gbile wasn’t taking her seriously as she watched him try to control his laugher.

“Ah. No ma. I’m very sorry. I just can’t…” He started seriously, but burst out laughing again.
“I’m being serious here sir!” She lamented.
“I’m sorry ma. I’m very sorry.” President Gbile sat up and tried to comport himself. Linda was dying inside.

“I’m sorry ma. I just couldn’t help it. You think you can trick me abi?” He laughed. “I know you want to pull a fast one on me. Who put you up to this ma?” He shook his head, the smile never leaving his face.

“Put me up to what sir? I’m not getting you?” She asked, sincerely confused.

“APRIL FOOL nah. Oh! You think I won’t know abi?” He laughed.

Linda could only stare in shock. She remembered yesterday was the first Sunday, and also the first day in the month of April. But April fool has passed now. Abi? She asked herself.
“Oga, I don’t…” She started but the President cut her short.

“You my wonderful members will not kill somebody. Ahnahn! That was how somebody walked up to me yesterday also. A brother I thought was gentle o. Guess what he did ma?”

“What did he do?” Linda wondered what the President was driving at.
“Hmm. The gentle brother walked up to me yesterday oh. And he was like… ‘President Gbile, what happened? Your shoelace is untied’. I highly doubted i, but I couldn’t resist the urge to look down at my shoe to confirm. Only for him and some other witnesses around to shout ‘APRIL FOOL!’

The President laughed again, wiping a tear from the corner of his eye.
Linda knew there was nothing she could possibly say now that would make the President take her serious in this happy mood of his.

“So Sister Linda tell me. Who put you up to this?” He smiled.
“Nobody sir. I… I… I’d like to be excused sir.” She stood up to leave.
“Ah. I caught you! Better luck next time ma!” He laughed at her departing figure.

~×~
“It’s about time you got back.” Queen mother said with an evil smile. Linda’s heart raced.

. “Queen mother!” She got down on one knee immediately. A hot slap kissed her right cheek. Then another. And another.

“Mother stop!” Haman who couldn’t bear it anymore had to stop the enraged Queen before she disfigured the face of his betrothed in anger.

“Don’t you dare interfere son! She deserves to die!” Queen mother lifted up her staff of power in a bid to strike Linda with it.

“Mother stop! You know whoever you hit with your staff dies instantly. Give her one more chance to complete her mission. I’m sure she must’ve learnt her lesson.” Haman held his mother’s hand mid-air.

“Next time, I won’t spare you!” The enraged Queen glared at her with eyes filled with loath before vanishing out of the room.
“Next time, you wouldn’t be so lucky!” Haman spat as he vanished also.

“Great! Just great! Another reason for Haman to think I owe him my life.” She wiped her tears, stroked her cheeks softly and winced. Queen mother had left her mark.

Linda channeled her pain and frustrations into hatred and bitterness towards the fellowship. She had learnt her lesson, now the fellowship will pay for it.
