The Judge cleared her throat. “Imma Davidson, you will serve the family of the deceased for 12 months, for taking their daughter without their consent. If you can not serve them then you pay a sum of 12million naira. I rise!!”
“Court!!!” The court dismissed.
Imma doesn’t know whether he should be happy or sad. Prof Ime and Gladys went to him.
“Congratulations Imma” Prof Ime Greeted
“Congratulations for what? Where and how will I raise 12million naira?”
“Imma there is another option to serve them, I think that one is avoidable just a year” Prof Sophia said
“Do I know her plans, what if she’s planning to kill me in return, and ma, how do you know I’m here, you mentioned you are the new neighbor I don’t understand”
Prof Sophia was trying to explain how she get to know about his predicament when Rebecca’s Mum interrupted them. Her eyes were red, as she fumed in anger “where is my money?” She asked
“Please ma, there is no how we can raise that amount of money” Gladys begged sadly
Rebecca’s mum dragged Imma’s wheels, “Nobody should beg me, you all heard the judge”
“Please can I talk to my family” Imma begged her
“No, you can’t”
“Where do you stay so I come and visit him?” Prof Sophia asked running after them. Rebecca’s Mum ignored her and took Imma away after signing some papers and ensuring the court of law that he will be in good health.
Prof Sophia and Gladys stood there for some moment before they left.
“You are welcome to my beautiful abode,” Rebecca’s Mum said as they got to her place.
“Beautiful?” Imma asked as he looked around the room, too many cobwebs and dirty cloth were hung on the wall.
“You live here?” Imma asked with disbelief. She ignored him.
“When you are done observing everywhere, that is the mob over there, clean the floor, wash all the dirty clothes and dishes.
“Madam I’m on wheels, you remember?”
Rebecca’s mum brought out a long cane
“You are going to use that on me, so this is what Rebecca has been passing through, no wonder she prefers death. Hope you know I can’t survive days here?”
She laughed at him, “let’s see if you will not survive. I’m stepping out now, before I return make sure all this is done” she left. A thought of escape flashed through Imma’s mind, but he knew it won’t be possible. He looked around the room, and a picture caught his attention.
“No! That cannot be Rebecca’s father, Never!”
