*_EPISODE TWENTY- FOUR_*

“No. No. No no no no no no no…..no!” Chief kept screaming from his sleep.
Helen had thought she was hearing her husband’s voice in her dream until she woke up to see him struggling on bed.
“Dear please wake up!” She said in a frightened tone and began to mutter words immediately.
“I….I just….I just had a terrible dream.” Chief said, holding his wife’s hands tightly.
Whatever dream it is that he had, really scared him to the uttermost.
“Relax dear. Come, let me pray for you.” Mrs. Helen said as he cuddled up into her arms like a child. Though she tried to brave it and hide her fears, she couldn’t help but be amazed at how frightened her husband is right now. Her husband that she knows very well is one that never shows emotions, most especially fear.
After few minutes of prayer, she could hear him snore. She turned to see him sleeping peacefully in his arms.
“Thank you.” He whispered when she readjusted him to sleep in a more comfortable position.
“Haven’t you noticed that whenever you skip your personal vigils, something happens to your husband like an attack?” A thought came to her while she was still struggling to pray.
The observation made her think for a while.
She recalled the incident of his falling sick right after he woke up from his sleep. She remembered she didn’t observe her vigil that time because she was too tired and worn-out.
“Is he going through something I don’t know about?” She asked herself, staring at him for a while.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
“Mummy?! Mummy ooo, your daughter is home.” Debby said as she dragged her bag into the living room.
“Jesus! My daughter is home. My daughter is home!” Mama Eunice said with excitement as she rushed out of the kitchen to welcome her daughter with a hug.
“But how did you come in? I’m alone so I made sure the door was locked.”
“I have the key nw. Have you forgotten you gave me the spare key before dumping me in mummy Grace’s house like a prodigal daughter?”
“Ah ah, don’t talk like that now……you know it’s not like that.” Mama said as Debby chuckled
“I know mummy, I was just joking.”
“So tell me dear, how was it? Was it what you expected? Did you have a wonderful experience there?”
“Yes Ma, but right now, I’m too famished to give you the full gist. I skipped lunch today so I’d have enough appetite and space in my stomach to devour mummy’s food this evening.” Debby said as her mom chuckled
“Okay, let me get something for you to eat.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Chief waited quietly for his food as he watched his wife prepare lunch for him and the kids.
He observed her carefulness in cooking and marvelled great. It’s been quite a while since he saw his wife in this state.
As he waited, his mind drifted back to few hours ago and how he woke up from sleep. He recalled the horrible nightmare he had and how his wife’s voice got him out of his dream state.
“Do her prayers protect me in some kinda way?” He questioned within him because he could remember she was too tired to pray and so threw herself to bed and went back to sleep without a second thought.
He had also noticed that whenever Helen skips her personal vigils as a result of fatigue or seldomly sheer laziness, he ends up having a bad night sleep
“If it’s her prayers that are giving me a good night sleep, I better find a way to make her keep vigil consistently without skipping a night!”
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Debby opened her eyes and yawned lazily. She checked the time and it was 6:45pm.
“I should get ready for prayers.” She whispered to herself as she dragged her body off from bed.
After eating her mom’s food, they had gisted for close to two hours as she went on and on to gist her of her experiences at mummy Grace’s place. She didn’t omit informing her of her amazing and friendly roommate too.
They had exchanged phone numbers before parting ways, just so they could keep in touch with each other, and in a way be accountable to each other.
It wasn’t long Debby came out of her bathroom with towel on her face that she received a call.
“Hello?” She said as soon as she swiped towards the green button.
“Hello dear? How are you doing today?”
“I’m fine and you?” She responded casually. The voice sounded familiar, but she couldn’t tell who it was as the number wasn’t saved on her phone
“I’m okay too Debby. Do you know who you’re speaking with?”
“No, I was about asking sef.”
“Lol….okay it’s Charity.”
“Wait…..which Charity?”
“Haba, what audacity! Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten about me because we parted ways for just six months Debby. Ordinary six months!”
“Oh oh oh, Jesus! Charity!!!! Babe I’m so sorry, my head has been full with a lot of names recently. Kai, it’s such a crime to have forgotten your name o,infact it’s an abomination and I apologise deeply.”
“Hmmm! The Lord forgive you o. I’ve forgiven you sha.”
“How far na, how are you doing today?”
“My dear I’m fine o, I’ve been doing well. I’ve been trying to call you for sometime now, and it’s not been going through.”
“Sweetheart don’t mind me my dear. The place I went to be mentored, there’s hardly NEPA light there so we use gen at night. Plus I forgot my charger at home, making it very difficult to charge when the opportunity comes.”
“Oh okay, no problem. At least you’re home now.”
“Yes dear, I am.”
“So baby guess what?”
“Ah hmmm….this one you’re asking me to guess hmmm…..oya gimme the full gist, what has happened?”
“Ah ah. You’re bad at this guessing game o. I’m asking you to guess and you’re asking me to tell you without any trial.”
“I know I’m super terrible at guessing games, and that’s why I’m asking you to tell me what it is straight up.”
“Okay o. Well, I called you to invite you to my wedding coming up in a month’s time.” Charity said with ‘matured’ excitement in her voice.
“Wedding? Whose wedding?” Debby asked after looking at the phone twice. She wasn’t sure she heard right.
“My wedding na, ah ah.”
“Your wedding? Ha, Jesus. Praiseeeee the Lord!!!”
“Hia! Babe which one is Praise the Lord again na? Abi, don’t you want me to get married again ni. Or my turn never reach?”
“Ah haba na, it’s an innocent praise the Lord na….so tell me, how did it happen. In just few months sha…after waiting and being anxious for years.”
“Hmmmm…..my dear it’s God o. I just realised that I’ve not been doing the Lord’s will while he kept me in the waiting room. My sister it’s my blindness to what God wanted me to be busy with while waiting for this miracle that delayed this breakthrough o.”
“My love you’re speaking in parables o, how do you mean?”
“See it’s not something to be talked over the phone jare, before you finish my card for me.”
“Ah don’t worry. I’m coming to your house as soon as possible.”
“Really? All because you want to hear gist?” Charity said with a chuckle.
“My dear, anything for gist o. You know me now.”
“Lol…God will deliver you o. Okay now. Till you come.”
“I will dear, I will.”
” Something she’s been worried about for months happening in less than a year. Abeg I need to go and hear the details.” Debby soliloquized as soon as she dropped the call.
No words…..but I’m happy for Charity sha
