Episode 31

Chimaobi stepped out first, and I did a few minutes later.

We had discussed not to show we figured out her escapades. Every discussion or plans were on hold until she leaves the house.

We all sat in the sitting room that night watching movies, but I was tossing and restive. My mind kept chasing after the possibility of Ruth working for Linda.

I stol3e hate3ful gazes at her at every slightest opportunity and was thankful I figured her out.
Sunday morning, I had hoped that Ruth would leave, but at 8:10am, Ruth was still laid on the bed in the guest room.

I found her on a video call with Tochi.

“You never dress up?” I asked her.
“Dress up, go where? Una de go Church? I thought you were instructed to stay indoors?”
“Yes, but I thought you would be leaving today to attend church service.”
“Abeg, I no even get strength. I de settle the matter with this boy. Wetin you de cook? I’m hungry.”
“Can you imagine? You de bed by this time and you are asking me wetin I de cook, I no blame you” I hissed.
“We de figght? Which kind of bad energy you carry wake up with this morning?” She said to me as I walked away.

“Hmm! Girl no want commot o. She said she’s staying behind and to leave on Monday.”
“No! No! For what kwanu? Mbanu! She must leave this morning.” Chimaobi rose spontaneously from the bed.
“Where are you going to?”
“To ask her to leave, ofcourse.”
“No na, stop.” I held his arms, pulling him back.
“What?” He almost shoutyed.
“No be like that, na. Remember, we are parting peacefully, so she could feel we are still in good terms.”
“So what do we do?”
“You can lie to her. Tell her something. Tell her your dad or cousin is coming today. You will need to have a place where they will stay.”
“ But we have three rooms here.”
“Tell her your dad and cousin. Your dad would be coming for a seminar in school while your cousin is coming with him for something. I know Ruth. She no go leave if you don’t do anything. She is such a pest.”
“Oya, go and prepare breakfast, let us eat. While eating, I will tell her, let’s see her reaction.”

I prepared fried yam and pap for our breakfast. She was still on video call with Tochi when I stepped into the guest room to call her.

“Madam, breakfast is ready,” I said and left almost immediately.

Chimaobi and I were on the table when she came in. We usually love eating in our room, but we had to eat on the dinning because Chimaobi had something to say.

“Ruth dear, I honestly appreciate you for stopping by and having your friend’s back. Not everyone will come this far to support a friend,” He said, and she picked up.
“No o! It’s nothing oo. I love Tolani, she’s just like a sister I never had. I just had to come around to show support. It’s absolutely nothing,” She explained herself.

“Wow, thanks so much, we appreciate.”
“It’s nothing jaare,” She said, throwing a piece of yam into her mouth.
“So, I got a call from my dad, who would be coming around today with my cousin. He has booked a flight already and the both of them are staying in my place. I don’t know, when do you intend to leave? Just letting you know. Like my dad and cousin will come soon. You sleeping here today will be…”
“Discomforting!” She completed.
“It’s alright, it’s nothing. I will leave once I’m done with breakfast. It’s nothing, I totally understand,” She smiled.
“Thanks so much for your understanding,” Chimaobi said as she continued.
“What could be the emergency bringing your dad to Awka? Is it the Linda situation?” She asked as I looked at Chimaobi.
“Not at all, he’s a professor. He’s coming for a seminar in school.”
“It’s alright.”

Thankfully, Ruth left that morning; although her countenance was sour. She had a long face when she was leaving and barely bade us goodbye.

“Why she de vex?” I asked Chimaobi as we laughed hysterically.
“Girl is frustrated.” He added.

We had the house to ourselves and had a very lengthy call with the IG, my dad and Chimaobi’s dad.

Thankfully, a plan was agreed on.
“Tolani, since the suspect we have as the informant is out, this plan will go well. You are going to pay in the money she requested, send her an apology message and beg her not to release the nude3s, that you are willing to comply with her directives just this once. Once you have an affair with her, she should please keep to her part of the promise which is not to come again.” The IG instructed.
“You should do this today. My men and I will update you on the next move,” He said.

Afterwards, I sent Linda the money and the message, agreeing to comply.
Chimaobi sent in 500k into my account, so I could directly transfer the money.

Sending the message and the money, she immediately responded with a message.

“Best for you. I will forward another hotel venue to you and that would be on that Saturday when you are out of the house. I don’t trust you.”

We immediately forwarded the message to the IG.
“This is still good, although I thought she would send the venue earlier, so we can get to the hotel manager, in order to allow us access to the room she would be booking. She is such a smart girl. That notwithstanding, we shall still work with this arrangement” she can’t be smarter than my team, the IG said.

“Bae, will this work? What if the police men do not meet with time?”
“This is the only option to have your nude3s safe. As you can see, her face wasn’t showing, just yours. You will have to be so convincing that she doesn’t suspect anything. Still show her some feelings of fear and anxiety, play along like you were forced to do it. Like you are going out of your will to satisfy her.

“Okay” I nodded as he wrapped his hands around my neck and pecked my eyes.

“It’s been months we made out. Troubles of life against us. I am sure we will come out great. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN US AGAINST THE WORLD. I can’t wait for all these to be over, for me to mess you up.” He chuckled.
