Jacob drove into Trojan hospital at about two A.M in the morning, the security led him to the waiting room , where his siblings and father were waiting for his mother to come out of surgery.
“Daddy how did it happen ? how did mum get shot ? we have two bullet proof vehicles in the compound, why did she not go out in one ?” He asked confused.
“Son this not the time for question and answer , this is the time for us to pray for God to heal your mother .” Afonja said .
“But dad why would she go out without a body guard or at least a driver ? she was shot twice in the stomach ?” He needed explanation, but his dad was not ready to give any .
“Jacob be here with your siblings , let me rest my head a bit in the car, Ibe been so stressed over the night !” Afonja said .
Jacob didn’t say anything, he only nodded .
Afonja sent to the trunk of his Lexus Bullet proof SUV, and got a briefcase containing his black robes, with a hood , he got into the vehicle and shut the door , then he made the passenger seat , sleep flat on the ground , as he wore his robe , then he lay down to sleep .
His spirit came out of his body it walked to the operation room and saw the doctors struggling to remove the bullets from Nike’s body .
“Nike ? Nike? Nike wake up ?” Afonja called .
Nike’s spirit rose up from her body , she locked as her internal parts were being cut through looking for the bullets .
“Afonja is it wise for us to leave my body when it’s still on the table ? what if the doctors declare me dead ?” She asked with concern all over her face.
“We’ll be back in an hour , they are going to finish surgery in three hours time , the supreme lord is unhappy with us , it has been days since the arrival of our first male grandchild , we have not been able to sacrifice him ,the great one would be angry at us , we need to go and plead our case , or else all we have worked for would go to waste !” Afonja said as he took her hand .
She knew her husband was saying the truth , the great one was going to destroy them if they didn’t fulfil their obligation to the coven of black cats Africa .
They both turned into two black cats and left the hospital, the security who came face to face with the heinous creatures almost passed out . he couldn’t believe his eyes .
They began running through the thick forest, and then dived into a deep River , they swam to the deepest parts of the water . A guard standing at the mighty gate of the water kingdom opened the way for them , after a bow of head .
They got to the Palace of Shaukura the great wise one .
“Afonja what to you want me to do to you and your wife ?” Shaukura the mighty god of the black cats asked Afonja .
Afonja and Nike knelt down before his throne.
“Great one we have come before you , not to make excuse for ourselves, but to beg your benevolence, you have been good to us great god as you were to my father before me and his father .” Afonja said while kneeling before Shaukura ,he dared not look at his face , when he was angry or else he would die .
“My lord the woman , the wife of my son is a stubborn one , we have tried many times , but she’s always there to stop us .” Afonja said .
“Oh shutup Afonja! don’t get me angry! she is just a girl ! Cats was your first sacrifice of your first grandchild easy to anyone ?” Shaukura asked .
“No your benevolent gracious King Shaukura ” they echoed in unison , they were about two hundred black cats , with eyes glittering down at Afonja .
“Afonja and Nike ! if the two of you fail to bring to us the blood of that child , no that you’re both going to died in next three months!” The king declared .
“And be sure never to return here without the baby , or else your heads would go , leave my presence you excuse of human !” Shaukura screamed .
Afonja held Nike hand as they ran out of the house and began to run back to the hospital.
The doctors finished their surgery , they gave Nike an injection to wake her up from the medically induced coma , but she wouldn’t wake . They tried all their best , her spirit had not left .
So they called for Jacob . “Mr Jacob please we want to inform you , that your mother didn’t make it , she didn’t survive the surgery.” Jacob didn’t know when tears ran down his eyes .
He rushed to the car to inform his father , he kept knocking on the heavy metal doors of the car to wake his father up, but he too was not answering, he wondered if his father wasn’t in the car , as he turned to leave , the door of the car softly opened .
“What is it Jacob ?” Afonja asked his son .
“Dad you were sleeping, please you have to come with me .” Jacob said to his confused father .
“What’s the suspense? is your mother alright ?” Afonja asked as Jacob was almost running into the hospital.
“Dad the doctors confirmed that mum couldn’t make it out of surgery.”
Afonja’s face turned white in terror .
“Don’t tell me my Nike is gone?” He said with his mouth opened wide in shock.
“Dad mum didn’t make it !” Jacob said as he broke into tears .
“Aaaaaarh no! my wife cannot die! not now my wife won’t die!” Afonja said as he raced ahead his son towards Nike’s room .
