(STUCK IN BETWEEN)
Lilian age 24, was a year older than Susan who was 23. She was a well disciplined and principled lady. They both became roommates on Susan’s first day in school. Susan parents found it wise to let Susan stay with Lilian since she was more experienced and older than their daughter.
Lilian who was in her second year then, helped in putting Susan through all her courses cause they were both studying thesame course. Susan was ahead of her mates then because she had a tutor at home. But after she met Gabriel, everything changed. It was from one week of boyfriend visitation to another. Lilian found herself doing almost all of Susan’s assignments cause she was always too busy or too tired to do them. Sometimes she went as far as writing her exams and tests for her. Lilian liked Susan a lot and wanted the best for her. But unfortunately, the worst person to convince in this world, is a woman who is blindly in love. Sometimes she ends up telling Gabriel everything that Lilian had told her about him. And that made Gabriel to develop dislikeness towards Lilian who was only trying to help Susan out of her unproductive relationship.
“Look babe. You have to promise me that you will never go back to that scumbag even if he comes rolling on the floor pleading for your forgiveness again. Why is it so difficult for you to reason things from my own perspective?. I mean well for you roomie. And I will always be truthful to you. This guy doesn’t love you. He is just catching fun and you are busy catching feelings. You better open your eyes to the truth before it gets too late.” Lilian said to Susan who was still helplessly crying on the bed.
Checking her time, Lilian shouted.
“Oh my gosh. It’s 6:55 am already. I am late for this lecture.” She shouted.
Lilian quickly reached for her hand bag and note book. She quickly gulped down the remaining tea in her cup and quickly reached for her footwear.
“Aren’t you going to attend lectures today?.” She asked raising her head from where she was bending trying to adjust her footwear.
“I’m not in the right frame of mind for that.” Susan said laying down on the bed.
“Hmmmm. Susan. Is this your primary purpose of being in school?. I really do not think you are threading on the right path. Honestly, this relationship is draining you emotionally, psychologically, physically and mentally. Can’t you see?.” Lilian asked standing upright.
“Please Lilian. I’m not in the mood for all your lectures and admonitions this morning. Please let me be okay?. I want to be left alone.” Susan said sobbing bitterly.
“Hmmmm. Okay. If you say so. I will be off to school now. See you when I return. Make sure you don’t starve yourself. And always remember that you will never be good enough for someone who isn’t ready to settle down.” Lilian said spraying her perfume.
She reached for her Mobile phone and exited the room. Immediately she left, Susan broke into uncontrollable tears sobbing bitterly. She picked her phone and went through all her pictures with Gabriel. Seeing them together in one frame broke her heart the more.
“Am I not good enough?. What am I supposed to do that I haven’t done yet?. Gabriel can’t you see that I love you so much?. I sincerely do from the depth of my heart. But why do you keep playing with my emotions?. This isn’t fair at all.” Susan sobbed viewing their pictures in her phone. “I know you will come back for me Gabriel. Because I know that deep down your heart, you can’t do without me.” She cried.
Susan thought that by subjecting herself to become Gabriel’s dry cleaner, cook and a submissive wife material, that Gabriel would see the good in her and propose to her before she graduates from school. But cooking, washing, and warming Gabriel’s bed has rather made him see her as someone who was desperate to be with him. Since it was Susan’s first relationship and first love experience, she didn’t know how to control or hide her emotions around Gabriel. She always found herself wanting to be in his arms all day long.
Lilian returned in the evening and met Susan still lying helplessly on the bed at the exact spot and position that she was before she left for lectures in the morning.
“Really?. You are still crying over that idiot?.” Lilian asked in disbelief.
Susan who was tired of crying, managed to get up from the bed but surprisingly, she fell and collapsed on the floor. Her roommate shouted for help and Susan was rushed to the school clinic. The doctor who treated her, was newly posted to the school and it was love at first sight for him the moment he saw Susan.
Susan was finally discharged the next evening.
“You will be discharged this evening. But before then, can I have your contact?. At least so I can be checking up on you from time to time.” The handsome doctor said.
Susan was reluctant at first cause she already had this strong hatred for men already. But Lilian didn’t hesitate to give the doctor Susan’s number.
“Here it is doctor.” She said handing her phone to the doctor who copied Susan’s number from Lilian’s phone. He quickly saved the contact then he dialed the number to see if it was going through.
Just then, Susan’s phone rang.
“Alright. It went through. You can save my number.” The doctor said smiling at Susan who rolled her eyes at him.
“What name should I use in saving the number?.” Lilian asked holding Susan’s phone.
“Stanley.” The doctor said with a broad smile.
