Episode 13

It was a hard time for bro Paul as he struggled to concentrate during his courtship session with sister Oluchi.

What’s wrong with me? He muttered putting on a worried look.

What’s it my dear? Sis Oluchi asked closing the courtship Manuel, you look worried sweetie.

I don’t understand the kind of strange sensation I’m having. Sister Oluchi stared at him, confused.

I don’t understand but let’s pray and end today’s session, sister Oluchi said stretching forth her hands. Bro Paul took a deep breath and placed his hands in hers.

In Jesus name we pray, sis Oluchi started the prayer but got no response only to open her eyes to discover that bro Paul was staring at her – A lustful enveloped stare.

What is wrong my dear? Sis Oluchi asked concerned.

Do you love me Oly? He asked pushing his seat closer to her.

Of course I do dear, stop acting weird please, she said trying to adjust her seat back but he released her hands and held her seat.

I just feel like touching my wife to be, just a touch won’t kill us please. I can’t control myself right now, God understands.

Paul! What have come over you? Please seat straight, I can feel your breath on my lips, you’re getting me aroused, just get hold of yourself, sis Oluchi said pulling herself back from him.

The more I stare into your face, the more disorganized I feel. Please, let me just feel you with my hands, he muttered placing his hands on her thigh.

We are in church, our supervisor might just decide to come and check on us, please stop this, sister Oluchi resisted.

He’s in his office in the other part of the church, he won’t show up, but if you’re having a double mind, let’s go to my house.

Stop Paul! What has come over you? Sis Oluchi resisted further. She slapped off his hands and stood up furiously ready to go but was obstructed by bro Paul who stood up speedily and placed his hands against the wall, hindering her from passing.

Okay, just a kiss before you go. At least, we are in church, it will be an holy kiss, he said moving closer to her, almost pinning her to the wall with his body. Sis Oluchi closed her eyes, “don’t be ridiculous dear,” she muttered.

And just as their lips were about embracing each other, their supervisor stepped in.

Brother Paul! Sister Oluchi! What have come over you people?

Both of you see me in my office now!

Their courtship session was suspended, then they were placed on discipline, I answered mother superior with a defeated voice.

Was that the plan? Mother superior bellowed in anger.

My shoulder drooped. I felt bad, I have successfully pulled down great men of God in time past, what’s up with this man?

I’m sorry mother superior. I’d put in my best but I’ll try harder if it still pleases you to let me finish this mission.

Finish it or get finished! She bellowed, stamping her staff on the bare ground, she disappeared.

Episode 14

These following people should wait after service, the Academic director announced and among the names called was my name.

I felt a bit nervous and anxious as I sat amidst others whose name was also called.

I hope it’s not about sister Felicia, what can be the reason why we were asked to wait? I pondered.

Good evening, the academic director greeted calling back my lost mind to reality. He called the names again to ensure everyone was present.

The nine of you have been chosen to succeed the outgoing Exco’s, so this tomorrow being Friday, we are having our Exco’s handover vigil and all of you are expected to be there. You must not fail to come because you’ll be prayed for by the leader you are to suceed. Do you have any question? Asked the Academic director.

What’s the time for the vigil Sir? Inquired a sister usher.

10pm on Friday, no African time o, he concluded and dismissed us.

Will you come over to my room on Friday night? My bunky is travelling, sis Oluchi asked me, and by the way this beans you cooked is still hard, it didn’t get done, she said gulping down some water.

Big sis I don’t understand that kind of beans o, the things want to finish your kerosene, yet it wasn’t getting soft, so I decided to finish the cooking like that o and I noticed your kerosene was remaining small.

No problem shaa, all these market women. They will be deceiving themselves not me, she said gulping down another water.

Ah big sis, I don’t use to listen to those people again o, they have shown me pepper. Their mouth too dey sweet, all they care about is selling their products. I hissed loudly and collected her cup to get more water for her.

Thanks nne, so tell me, are you coming tomorrow evening?

We have vigil tomorrow in the fellowship, I replied sitting back on the bare floor, I set the cup beside her.

Vigil koo, vigil ni? Which vigil and when was that one announced?

It’s not for everybody, it’s for the recruitment of new Exco’s, and their prayer night with the outgoing Exco’s, I said smiling.

Oh! The Exco’s handover vigil. It’s not just for the past Exco’s, but all past Exco’s would be present, sister Oluchi explained.

Jesus! I shouted covering my mouth with my palms.

What? Why shouting? Sis Oluchi asked looking confused. I needed to say something convincing as to why I shouted, to avoid raising suspicion on myself. So, I said, “I’m the shy type, I wonder if I can actually stand in the midst of such great people”. Sister Oluchi bursted into a deafening laughter and I heaved a relief.

So that means you and bro Paul would be there also? I asked forcing a smile on my lips, my heart was beating more than normal.

We may not be there, she answered with a drooped face.

Why? I asked, then I remembered about their discipline and my heart bloomed in gladness.

We were disciplined because of something that happened in our last courtship session. I told you because I trust I wouldn’t hear it flying around the fellowship.

Of course big sis.

So you are about to become a Cordinator, that’s interesting. I’m sure they prayed very well because you are one of the best sister I have encountered so far, you deserve it, sis Oluchi said beaming with smiles.

Thanks big sis, you have a large heart, but big sis, I am nervous o.

About the post you’ll occupy? She asked. I nodded.

Don’t let that bother you? Any position God gives you, just serve him faithfully there.

Okay ma. We continued eating our food in silence until the silence was distorted by sis Oluchi ringtone.

“Your sweetheart”, I said smiling. I passed the phone to her. Her mood changed and her forehead tightened. She collected the phone, kept it beside her and continued her eating. I stared at her, feigning a surprised look. The call ended but the caller wouldn’t give up.

Why don’t you answer the call big sis? Hope it’s not related to the discipline?

She took the phone and stepped out.
