Episode 1
“Gbemi! You are the cause of your problem,” pastor Mike said to me making me confused.
“I don’t understand,” I said.
“What am trying to say is that you have kept yourself in this situation for long,” he said.
“Me? How? Why would I keep myself in such situations, am 35 years and no suitor, nothing is going on well with me, no job no business, nothing at all, was I cursed? Who did I offend?” I asked still confused.
“You were not caused, neither have you done wrong to someone,” he replied with a calm voice.
“Then how am I the cause?” I asked.
“While we were praying, I saw you in chains and yoke, chains to a metal pillar, I wanted to loosen it for you but you pushed me away and tighten it more on yourself,” he said as I looked at him confused.
“The chain was held with a big strong and rusty padlock, amazingly I saw you with the key, you held the key but refused to unlock yourself, when you try to move the chain holds you back,” he said.
“This is strange to me, am still trying to understand all you just said,” I said.
“Miss Gbemi, what you need right know is reflection, you have to really go down memory lane and try to fish out why this is happening to you,” he said.
“How do I go about it?” I asked.
“Go home, fast and pray, ask God to show you how you are the cause of your problems,” he said.
I thanked him and left his office going home.
“Gbemi ! How did it go?” My mom asked me immediately I entered the sitting room.
“Same old thing, why do they all keep saying am the cause of my problem,” I said sitting down frustrated.
“Don’t you think it’s time you really look into it, this is the fifth man of God telling you the same thing,” she said to me.
“Mom, do you really believe am the cause, do you really think I can keep myself in this situation?” I asked her.
“I’m not saying that, what am saying is you should look into it, the first might have been a mistake, the second a coincidence but the fifth time should tell you something is wrong,” she said.
“Mother, I don’t believe you are really saying this, me the cause of my problem? They are all wrong,” I said getting up and walking into my room.
I fell on my bed immediately I got inside my room.
“Could it really be true but how?” I asked myself.
At that moment my phone rang, I picked up and it was an unsaved number.
“Hello, this is Gbemi, who am I unto?” I asked.
“I’m Mary calling from keystone global, am calling to inform you of the interview schedule to hold tomorrow by 8am,” she said.
“Ok, thank you, I will be there tomorrow,” I said ending the call.
“This one has to work, it has to,” I said assuring myself.
I was at the company as early as 7:30am to meet another five applicants.
I happened to be the last person who came for the interview but my 11am it was my turn.
I entered the room to meet a three man panel.
I presented my credentials and answered all their questions correctly.
“Thanks for you time, we would get back to you,” they said as I stood up and excused myself.
I waited for their call but none came, I had to call back the lady who called to inform me of the interview.
“Hello, this is Gbemi, I can for an interview about two weeks ago and i haven’t gotten a call yet,” I said to her.
“So sorry about that but you weren’t selected, the other five applicants have all resumed work,” she said and the phone dropped from my hand.
“Out if six applicants I was the only one not selected even with my first class and how intelligent I am,” I said to myself falling on my bed.
“It’s time I do something about this.”
