Once in Love
Episode Sixteen
It was already morning, and William couldn’t sleep again; he was consumed by the thought of the dream he had about Isabel.
He needed to get his daughter out of Kemi’s grip, but firstly, he had to go and see his father-in-law to know the way forward and also see his wife. He couldn’t wait to see how she was doing.
“But the dream looked so real,” he would say at intervals until he decided to go into the bathroom for a bath.
The night was cold, and even the water that came out of the shower was cold. He needed it to calm down, and of course, there was no breakfast.
No Anna meant no breakfast because William couldn’t cook to save himself.
According to his wife, he was a “spōilt boy who couldn’t even boil water.” He wanted a cup of tea, but mixing it was a problem.
Then he had to dress up because, after all, he was going to his in-laws’ house, and they wouldn’t fail to give him food. Food wasn’t the problem at the moment compared to finding Isabel.
Isabel, on the other hand, since she was kidnāpped, rejected everything Kemi took to her to eat and cried all day.
Kemi feared she might develop a fever, leading to being taken to the hospital, which she feared she might be expōsed.
William was done dressing up; he had a feeling that someone might monitor his movement. Kemi was smart and would do anything to have William to herself. William had to use a cab instead.
He went through the gate, asking the gate man to lock it and not open it to anyone at all.
He walked out of his street and then took a cab to his in-laws’ house. On getting there, he saw Anna’s father outside the house. It was perfect timing because nobody told Anna that her husband was coming to the house.
“Don’t tell her we called you here; she’s in the sitting room now.
My wife and I will leave you two to talk,” Anna’s father said, tapping William on the shoulder, to which he nodded in affirmation.
Anna’s father was the first to enter the house; his wife was sitting on the couch with Anna trying to consōle her.
Anna had been crying nonstop since Isabel went missing and had refused to eat.
As Anna’s father went inside, he whispered to his wife that William was outside, and they both entered together.
“Let me go and pick a tie to match with your father’s outfit for work tomorrow,” she said with a subtle eye roll, hinting to her daughter that something was up.
Anna just smiled as they went in. Just then, William entered the house; Anna was lost in thought when he walked in, opening the door so discreėtly that it was hard to notice.
He saw his wife sitting as if she had lost everything, which was understandable with their daughter missing.
William approached her from behind, placing his right hand on her shoulder, causing her to stārtle.
When she realized it was her husband, she didn’t know what to say. She was upsėt, not sure if it was because of their missing daughter or some other reason she couldn’t grasp.
“Darling,” he called, making her heart skip a beat.
Trying to hide how much she missed him and was waiting for him, she responded, “What do you want, Mr. William?” shifting away with her arms crossed.
“I know about everything, don’t shut me out. Isabel is also my child. Let’s fight Kemi together, please,” he pleaded. Anna looked at him, not knowing how to stay angry with a man she loved with her whole heart.
Who told you about what happened and who is Kemi to you?” she asked.
“Won’t you even offer me a seat before I start answering questions about Kemi?” William asked, trying to fake a smile so she would loosėn up a bit.
“It’s fine, have a seat and make sure you tell me everything I need to hear about who Kemi is to you and why she decided to trōuble me this way,” she said.
William sat down, staring directly into her eyes as she continued talking.
When she noticed, she could no longer say a word. “You want to know about Kemi, right? Have a seat too, I will tell you everything,” he said to her, and she also sat down.
William cleared his throat and started, “Kemi is no one, she does not matter and will not matter. I met her through a friend, and since then, she had been all over me.
She shāmelessly asked me to be her boyfriend, and I turned her down. I did not see her again for a while until the day you introduced her to me as your friend.
At first, I thought it was another Kemi, not knowing it was the same dėvil who had vowed to make life misėrable for me because I did not want her.
I initially thought it was a joke until now.”
Anna cut in, “Why didn’t you tell me anything about this? To think that she became my friend so she could get close to you shows how dėsperate she can be, even going as far as taking my daughter away from me.”
Tears started flowing from Anna’s eyes as she talked, and her husband held her close, hugging her.
“I’m sorry for all the pains I have caused you. I really wish I could just turn back the hands of time.
I would have made everything okay.
But I promise you that I will find our daughter and bring her home to you,” he assured her.
