CHAPTER SEVEN
After preparing dinner we watched movies. It was now 10:00 pm. I informed him that I had to be going back to my hotel but he refused. He told me to spend the night because it was already too late.
Well if weโre in our previous days, I am death sure I would have rushed out of his house even at 1:00am. But it was different now I trusted him and so I decided to spend the night.
We were now seated in a very soft couch directly close to each other, watching a movie on a Nigerian movie
โ Arenโt you tired yet?โ
Tried? No.โ I said
โAre you tired?โ
โNot today. But if I were alone here I would have probably dozed off since 8:00.โ He said laughing.
โItโs been long I had company, ever since my wife passed awayโ
โWhat was she like?. Iโm sure you Miss her a lotโ
โ Yes . I miss her so much but I guess God has a reason for everything.โ
โ Emma.!โ
โEmma?โ
โYes her name was Emmanuella but I called her Emma for shortโ
โWow beautiful nameโ I said
โYeah really beautiful but sheโs gone now.โ
โ Enough about me?โ what of you?โ
โ Me?โ I asked rather confused
โ Yes youโ he said smiling
โWhat is it about me?โ
โWhat kind of a man do you wish to have ?โ
โAnd if you were given the opportunity today to marry at this your age Will you accept?โ he continued
A question I was never expecting to come this early. If I were to say that I knew nothing about Mr Atabongโs feelings for me then I will be lying. My Woman instincts already informed me. I wasnโt just ready for such a question at that time He had asked a question anyways and I had to answer him sincerely too so I said.
โ Well if I were given the opportunity to get married and have a family this early โฆ..โ
I stopped for a while pouncing my head from left to right thinking
โI will grab it sir. One thing I know is that Time waits for no one in life and opportunities comes just ones or maybe twice but not very oftenโ
โSo I will take it. So that I give birth to Children and enjoy them while am still very youngโ
โ Wow thatโs greatโ
โ Yeah. It also dependsโฆ..โ I stopped as soon I heard what he said next
โSo meaning if I tell you that I like you and I have always liked you”
โI wish that we build together in Harmonyโ
โI have been studying you for long now Bright and trust me you make a good mother and great Wifeโ

โI have always admired you for that โ
I became silent for some time not knowing how to react to the emotions at the time. At the moment I didnโt know what to say.
I mean, I liked him and I was certain he liked me too but when he confessed it, I became dormant.
โ Oh common donโt give me the silent treatmentโ
โI just wanted to let it out of my chest. I mean, weโve been friends now for long.โ He said
โItโs okay if you donโt feel the same wayโ

โI will give you some time to think of about itโ
He rose from the couch and stretched his arms, telling me good night
โcome let me show you where you sleep โ
I followed him upstairs to a guest room he had arranged for me to sleep in
โThatโs your roomโ he pointed
โ if you have any problem you let me know okayโ
โThank you Prof. I willโ
โGood nightโ
โGood night my dearโ
He said as he went to his room..
The very next day was a Saturday. He work up really late from bed and I offered to help him make breakfast for that day. I did everything and even helped him clean his house.
He escorted me back to my hotel room and urge me to visit him sometime again. Before going back home he pleaded that I think about what he said yesterday and let him know because he was very serious about it.
Well after a week of looking for a job I still couldnโt get one. One fateful evening when coming back from job hunting, I decided to pass by Maryโs place . When I arrived there I didnโt see her so I decided to go back when I met my brother on the road.
Immediately I saw him I turned to run but he had already seen me and so he rushed after me and pleaded that I shouldnโt run. I stopped and he also pleaded that we go home.
It so happened that the same time I was going to Maryโs house, my brother Hillary wanted to get more info about my whereabouts from Mary and so we ended up meeting each other on the road.
I accepted that I had been running for too long and had to actually go back home. But I told him I was going back home only on the condition that they will allow me to make my own mistakes and decisions, which he immediately accepted.
I went back to the hotel and checked out of it. I also told the receptionist that I was going to call Prof to let him know I wasnโt in the hotel anymore.
I went back home with my brother who was now happy having me Back.
Joseph was equally happy to receive me back home and he promised not disturb me again.
Since I had no business with school u decided to help my brother sell at his Shop.
He was now preparing to get married to his long time girlfriend. She had wanted to talk to me since she heard what happened but had not been chanced to. When she heard I was back home she decided to come by the shop and talk to me. I was seating in front of my brothers shop when I heard someone called.
โHey Briโ
โEmerald!!โ I exclaimed Once I noticed she was the one
โWhere have you been ?โ.
โ You got all of us worried, you shouldnโt runaway from home like that okayโ.
โNo matter what happens your home will always your homeโ
I just sat by acting like I was digesting what she said but I couldnโt wait for her to finish already.
We ended up talking about so many things about her marriage and much more.The wedding was going to be a big event and my Brother informed me that my father will be coming with his family just for the occasion. But nothing about my father excited me now.
