MY SUGAR DADDY AND I
CHAPTER ELEVEN
After that meeting my brother decided not to speak to me any longer. He had made it clear to me that I was death. I parked out the next day and called it quit with my family.
I moved to the center region of the country and concentrated on my business. Five months later it became more successful. I had signed deals with fashion models as well as I got deals from abroad.
Mr Atabong and I decided to get married and though on several occasions he pleaded that I let him speak to my brother in which I refused. The only person I stayed in contact with was my Friend Mary. I had decided to forgive her and she had completely accepted that I was happy with Mr Atabong. My husband on the other hand had decided to invest in Hotel Business, which equally was successful.
Two years had come and gone but we were happy. We had been blessed with two beautiful boys Ryan and Roi.
Things had been going well for us till my husband fell ill and his family started acting up and causing trouble for me.
I was at work one evening when I got a call.
âHelloâ
âMamie Roiâ
âYes aunty Mercyâ
â Your husbandâs in the hospital.â
âWhere are you â she asked really vexed
âWhat happened to himâ
âOhh! Your asking me as ?. His wife or his mother?. Shouldnât I be the one asking you that?â
âI am sorâŠ..â before I could finish talking she dropped the call. I was left with no information where my husband was admitted at and what he was sick of.
I called home to find out and was later informed by my house girl that he had been rushed to the hospital by his elder sister. She further gave me all the details of the hospital. I took a bike and went to the hospital to fine my husband on drip. He was unconscious looking so stressed I became so worried and stressed at the same time. I felt bad about what Aunty Mercy had Said.
When I got married to my Husband, he supported me and my business, but his younger sister has never wanted my success. She suggested that I stay back home and take care of him and the Children, to which my husband refused.
When I saw him on the bed looking so helpless and weak I couldnât even hold Myself. I felt a heavy pain on my chest which gradually disappeared as warm tears rolled down my Checks.
I was Soo lost in thoughts, worried about him that I didnât even realize he had gotten up
âManyiâ he said
âManyi !â he persisted
He always called me âManyiâ ever since I gave Birth to our Two Children.
â Babe!!!â He said even louder
âYes Babeâ
âWhat are you thinking about?â
âNothing Babeâ I said as I struggled to wipe my tears faster before he could notice.
âAre you crying?â
âNo honeyâ
âWhy do have water in your eyes?. Are your eyes bleeding transparent blood?â
âNurse!! Please call the Doctor my wifeâs eyes are bleeding transparent blood ohh â
â Oh common honey stop!!â I said as we burst out laughing
âHow are you feeling?â I asked taking a stool
and seating next to him
âAm alright Mon BĂ©bĂ©!â
âWhat happened to you and why didnât you tell me you were not feeling fine this morning?â
âNo I didnât want you to stay home and loose your contracts Babe. Besides I didnât know itâll escalate.â
âThe Doctor said you needed an operation. That your condition had become worstâ
âEach morning I do your food and park like a child in a lunch box but you donât eat. What am I going to do with you?â I asked.
âAm sorry Babe you know me right?
âYes I know youâ. I said getting agitated
âYouâre the kind of person who doesnât like food, always forgets to eatâ
âCommon Babe I am not a Child for to you be parking lunch for every single day to take to schoolâ
âWhat are you even saying? You literally been accepting all this while.â I said looking surprised.
My husband was basically a Walker-holic. If he started something here and you didnât remind him to eat he would completely forget. But he loved drinking and it had caused him to develop a serious illness which needed an operation. Who said Marriage was easy?. We always had problems like this home. Sometimes I go days without talking to him because of things like that. He sometimes apologized and promised never to do it again, it had become part of him.
I couldnât argue with him again, so I went out to take fresh air and clear my head.
The operation was successful. After three weeks he was discharged. My sister in-law aunty Mercy had made it her mission to be coming to my house every day to Check if I had left my husband and gone to work. Each time she never saw me home, she will curse and curse even when my maid will tell her that I had only gone to the market to get food for the house. This woman was bent on tormenting me. I didnât know where the sudden hatred had come from.
One Monday morning I decided I was going to pass by my office to check how work had been going on without me for some time. When I arrived my Shop I met my friend Susan who had come to get shoes for her kids for Christmas.
âHey Susy!!
âOh!! Bright Darling, where have you been?. I have been here like three times this week now but havenât seen you aroundâ
âAm so sorry Dear I had to stay home and take car of my husbandâ
âWhat?? What happened to your husband?. Is he alright?â
âYes he is Ok now. He actually had an operation and had to recover. I had to stay home to make sure he eats and took his drugs. You how this men are.â
âMy Dear!! Very negligent sometimesâ she said giggling.
âAnyways hope heâs fully recovered now so that you can come back to work?â
âI donât know Susy, my Husbandâs sisterâs on my neck that I quit and come home to play house wife dutiesâ
âThe woman is bent on tormenting me if I donât. So, at this point I donât even know how I am going to manage the situation at handâ
âThe other day she threaten to bring another Woman for his Brotherâ I said as she uses her right hand to cover her mouth in shock
â You donât mean it?â
âWith every fiber in my born â
âI donât know what she wants from me ohh ohhâ
âDo you really know that am angry with you??â she said
âDo you know that youâre the one who caused this upon yourself??â
âHow do you mean ?â
âYou told me you and Atabong got Married without any of your family members right??â
âYes we did. But how is it the cause of my predicaments?â
âSometimes my Dear we take the things we get for free for granted. Do you know why? Because it was given to us for free without stress.â
âMy Dear youâre a woman, you have no back up, nothing no one to stand by you in case something happens tomorrow.â
âImagine if something happens to your husband tomorrow Do you think you have the right to be called his wife?â
I nodded becoming really worried as she backed up her points making me to understand that as a woman I needed my family behind me least I stumble.
I thought about what she said an became even more worried. My husband has only fallen ill and I was being threaten. To top it all my bride price had not been paid.
Yes I was married to him legally in court but my sister in-law had her ways and her connections. She was a lawyer and a very strict Woman at that. Also I wasnât completely Married to Mr. Atabong if he brought another Woman tomorrow and decided to do the right thing with her family then I am as good as doomed. I had to Fall into action else my Children will suffer when my husband finally joints his ancestors.
